Do failed WILD attempts often lead to a DILD?

I have not been trying to attempt any WILD techniques yet as I am just a beginner, and feel my time at this stage would be spent more wisely focussing on achieving DILDs. However, I was wondering if in your experience you notice that the increased awareness from attempting a WILD naturally follows through to the dream and leads to 'accidental' DILDs?

I ask this, because the technique I have been using for the last week or so has been SSILD. When I have done the technique and fallen asleep quickly enough I have more often than not just at some point suddenly realised I'm dreaming in the dream, and if that didn't happen I at least find on recalling that I was questioning things in the dream a lot more and getting confused at all the stuff that isn't logical. It seems to me that SSILD is not so different from some WILD techniques, except for the major difference that you stop the awareness after a bit and let yourself sleep with SSILD.

Another example is the 'catching the butterfly' technique in Daniel Love's book 'Are you Dreaming?'. You basically watch your thoughts, and then every time you drift off you bring yourself back with the question 'is this a dream?'. The main goal is to achieve a WILD, but if you don't manage that then the constant questioning of whether you're dreaming might carry through to the dream, leading to a DILD.

Are there many WILD techniques that are also good at inducing a DILD if the WILD is not successful?

Although I'm in no rush to learn WILD, it is certainly a long term aim of mine. If there were some WILD techniques that also were effective at inducing DILD, then using such a technique would allow you to induce DILDs while at the same time working up towards WILD.

In my experience, it does, but it didn't happen many times, a WILD attempt resulting in a DILD, that is. I think it depends a lot on the level of experience of the LDer with the WILD method or lucid dreaming in general.

I also think it depends on how much the LDer expects the awareness of WILD to carry over into a DILD. For some people, this has worked for them, and they have developed a mindset of success around it: "If I fail this WILD, it will probably lead to a DILD." And it probably will!

I have not experimented with the "catch the butterfly" technique, but it sounds more like a DILD tech than a WILD--you are essentially checking to see if you missed a transition while you were distracted, and if a dream has already formed (which is very possible).

Also, SSILD essentially is a WILD technique, so do not be surprised if while practicing it, you fall into a WILD.
