Question Missed my first WILD dream?

So I have been attempting WILD for like a week or so. It always feels like it will be the one attempt to succeed, but usually I just lay there for 40 min not moving and nothing really happens. Sometimes I feel like I am flying, sometimes I see HI, sometimes I start imagining dream parts without really thinking about it, just like my vivid daydreams. And I eventually give up.

But today it felt really different. It almost felt like I was really close.

After laying for about 30 min, being almost paralyzed but I could move if I wanted, I didn't really see any HI, just black moving foggy thing. I only had some jerks all over my body here and there. I didn't think about anything, I didn't use a mantra or count. I just maintained awareness and suddenly I started focusing on the back of my eyelids and suddenly the blackness started flashing and it almost felt like it was absorbing me, but since everything was calm and this happened suddenly and I didn't expect it, I got startled and the feeling stopped and it returned to normal. For some reason I gave up. It almost felt like my FOV was increasing.

So was I really close or just something random?

I really have no problem with awareness during WILD and I don't fall asleep. I just feel like I am not doing something right, but today was different.

So I just have to relax and wait for different methods to enter a dream?

Also I live really close to the street and the vehicles passing probably affect my attempts. There is also a clock which is ticking.

A final thing I have to ask - Does light affect WILD attempts? Most of my attempts are during daylight and I usually put my hand over my face, but today I just put a small blanket over my eyes and worked just as good.

      Hey there,

The main thing about WILD is simply falling asleep. Anything that keeps you from falling asleep will interfere with your WILD attempt. But, if it doesn't keep you awake, whether its light, a clock, or the street, then I wouldn't worry about it.

As you try to WILD, you're likely to feel a variety of sensations. Your body is falling asleep, and this generates strange physical sensations that we're usually not aware of when we go to sleep normally. Additionally, hypnagogia will start to appear. Hypnagogia can be anything. Most dreamers describe images or sounds, but they can be sensations, touch, smells, even taste as well.

All these things are a sign that yes, you are getting close to falling asleep, and if you can do so while remaining conscious, will WILD.

However, I would advise you not to focus on the physical sensations too much, as doing so can keep your mind too sharp and awake, while you want it to fall asleep.

      Just my 2 cents,

Thank you very much. I usually ignore all sensations and let them just happen.

If you had to guess when would be a good time to stop a wild attempt because I have tried it for 40 min almost completely paralyzed.

As I've read wild had a bunch of ways to enter a dream. Active and passive.

Active is when you imagine a dream and just enter it.

Passive usually puts you into your bed after you have ignored everything trying to remain awake. Then you just have to imagine a movement ( I like the swing one).

I've also wondered if staying for a longer time would freeze my body entirely, as so far I can always break out of it. Am I doing it right?

I also have one question: Do I look at the back of my eyelids or just roll them down the way I usually sleep?

      Hey there,

WILD'ing is not easy, unless you have a natural talent for it. The difficulty is trying to find that exact balance between being too aware and not aware enough. The first will keep you awake and prevent you from sleeping, the second will cause you to fall asleep losing awareness and thus enter a normal dream instead of a wild.

Personally, I stop when I feel I'm keeping myself awake too much. Remember that the goal with WILD is that you're trying to fall asleep. So there's no set time on how long it can/should take. You can WILD seconds after hitting the bed, or you may lay awake for an hour first before finally dozing off. You'll find it considerably easier to try to WILD after having been awake for a little while during the night, preferably having slept a few hours already.

You're not likely to actually get paralysed. What you're feeling is more likely simply your body going numb and your limbs feeling strange or heavy because of it. You don't need to do anything special, though lying in a position that's just a little bit unfamiliar or a little bit less comfortable then normal, while still allowing you to fall asleep, can help to keep your mind more aware as you doze off. Also, many dreams advocate the use of some mental anchor to keep your mind focused and sharp while falling asleep. You may want to look into that as well.

      Just my 2 cents,
