      First WILD attempt

So, I've learnt about lucid dreaming just yesterday night. I instantly got interested in it and spent a couple hours on doing research. So I decided I would attempt WILD that night. Here's basically how it went: I skipped the "sleep 4 hours then go back to sleep" phase cause when I tried to do it it was late night. So, started doing it and I didn't have any problem in staying completely still. After a while I started feeling my hands sinking into the bed. At this point I tried to focus on the back of my eyelids but I could see nothing, so I went back to just staying still and trying to keep focused on breathing. After a while I felt that even my arms were starting to sink, and part of my back too. Now comes the most interesting part of it. I felt some itchiness between my eyebrows, basically at the start of the nose. I let it pass like I let pass every other itch I had, but this one morphed into a wavey sensation pushing against my head. If you put your finger between your eyebrows and push you can feel what I basically felt, just that it was much more extended and intense ( but not painfull at all, I actually enjoyed it ) and the sensation was moving like a wave. After a while it stopped, and I went back on trying to see stuff on the back of my eyelids. Nothing. At this point I knew a lot of time passed, so I just opened my eyes and moved my body. Well, here I had a brief second of panic, maybe it wasn't even panic but "shock" cause from moving and opening the eyes all of the sudden ( stupid thing on my part, should have done it slowy ). Anyway I look at the clock and 1 hour and 20 mins passed. I actually didn't expect to succed the first time since I literally discovered about LD and WILDs 2 hours before doing that, but still I think that I should share my experience to ask for help from you guys. What did I do wrong? What should I have done?

PS: My parents were waking up around the time I was doing the WILD and they were making some noise and shit like that, maybe that's part of the problem?

      Hello welcome to dream views.

It sounds like your first attempt was at least interesting, I would imagine that those sensations were a result of you putting yourself into a hypnotic or perhaps meditative state. This would account for the odd sensations and the change in your sense of time.

The main problem is the time of the attempt, if one tries to wILD late at night it is very unlikely to happen because the mind is simply not inclined to enter REM sleep, where the majority (perhaps all?) lucid dreams occur, this is a very important point. In my opinion, and I think this is the general consensus, one should attempt WILDs either after using the WBTB method in the early morning, in the morning, or in the early afternoon.

I saw you were attempting to maintain consciousness by focusing on your breath, and by looking into the back of your eyes. This is not a bad method, if using this method I would suggest adding in autosuggestion as well. I would also suggest methods which engage the imagination. Such as visualising oneself rising from your body, walking around, flying, etc. Or the Rope technique, where one imagines 'pulling' oneself out of the body. Each person will find that method which works best for them, or collection of methods, in due time through trial and error. Keeping a accurate dream journal will help you with this process, it will allow you to see on average which works the best for you.

Your parents walking around might have had some ill effect depending how loud they were, I would suggest putting on ear phones, ear plugs, or something similar which blocks sound. Maybe put on some light music in the back ground, the white noise fans produce may also help drown out distractions.

Even tho the first try did not go perfect, every attempt is a opportunity to learn from ones mistakes, and so should be taken in stride. Given the proper focus and due diligence results will occur most surely.
