Questions about WILD
I was just wondering. I have never had a Lucid Dream and I really want to have one. I have been looking at the WILD method and I think I would like to try it. However, I am getting mixed signals with regards to one area.
I want to make sure, Is the WILD technique related to or part of any spiritistic practices? I would like to try this technique, but I wish to never be involved with anything dealing with super natural forces or spirits. This technique seems purely scientific with regards to the different states of consciousness and hallucinations, but then I come upon articles relating this to astral projection and spirit related things.
And also, above all, is this technique completely safe? Could anything permanently harmful happen to the mind as a result of this technique.
And btw, I know about Sleep Paralyses, so there isn't a need to inform of that. Thanks.

i dont believe there is anything spiritual bout it although i think dreamcatchers are suppose to filter out "bad spirits" that creates nightmares but i don't really believe in that.
other than that, there's no harm done. you might know this if you had it, but sleep paralysis have give people a great deal of anxiety. they can't move for one and two, they might have hallucinations inspired by their anxiety (aliens, intruders, ghosts, etc).
the only thing that i know of, tied in with religion is that a specific WILD technique (involving imagening and focusing on a lotus with a flame inside until in a dream). this has been taught in Buddhism and some call it Tibetan Dream Yoga for it originated in Tibet. apparently they seldom use it for amusement but to find their deepest inner self.
i hope this helps.
do remember
Dream Induced is more common than WILD and i think may just be easier. but when you try WILD i would recommend in the early morning hours.

The primordial versions of the WILD(practice of the monks) are related with spiritual stuff, how lucidspark64 said. LaBarge created a technique, the current WILD, with same bases of the old technique but much more scientific, in fact if you read Laberge writings you see that he only uses scientific terms and avoid esoteric terms, all about WILD it's scientifically proven and explained. The old versions of the technique are almost impossible to be done without a support guru and with the current modern style of life.
About WILD being related with Astral Projection..well..thats the eternal discussion about LD vs OBE, you can use a WILD to induct a LD or a OBE, but aren't the same thing?
So don't worry, WILD it's not harmful, it's only based in natural mechanisms of your brain(and body) ;).

Thanks for the resoponses. This cleared up a lot. :)
I am new to LDing and I haven't even had a LD yet. I have been keeping a dream journal for about a week, and I definitely notice that I can remember more about my dreams now.
I wasn't sure if I should try to just keep up good habits of DJing and Reality Checks to hopefully get a DILD or if I should try a WILD. Lol the thought of hallucinations and whispers scared me though.

I suggest you ignore that Out Of Body Experience and Astral Projection nonsense. Lucid dreaming is scientifically proven, and it is nothing spiritual. Just remember, you go through Hypnogogic imagery every night, this time you're just awake to experience it. It can't hurt you. As for Dream Journals and RC's, you should always do those, and a dream journal is MANDATORY! What is the point of having a lucid dream if you can't remember it happened!

Well, I think that kinda spiritual and AP stuff ain´t real. So nothing spiritual here.
