How have you made progress with DEILDs?

i feel like i've gone through a number of techniques over the past couple of years, and i've decided that the DEILD method is suitable for me. i'm relatively experienced with meditation and trance-type things, but i could never WILD because if i move at all or get out of bed for any period of time in the early morning i have a lot of trouble getting back to sleep.

i'd like to hear how other people's DEILD practice has developed over time, and how they got to the level they are at now. people seem to be talking about WILDing all over the place, so i'd like to hear more about this particular technique.

right now i'm trying to train myself to wake up without an alarm in the early morning hours, stay still and keep my eyes closed, and shift into a LD. i'm not making very rapid progress... whenever i walk through a doorway i try to repeat to myself, "i will be aware each time i wake from a dream - i will remain still and keep my eyes closed."

so please post any insight you might have as to how you were able to improve your ability to be aware of the times you wake from a dream, and how you fall back asleep and into a LD. thanks!

Well I use autosuggestion. Everyone wakes up, but it's the "did you remember it" part. The awakenings are only about a second though. You might be able to drink a bunch of water each night, so when you wake up you need to go to the bathroom. This way it may program your body to wake up at that time.
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

yeah, but then i feel like i need to get up and relieve myself... i've actually been avoiding drinking anything after a certain time to avoid the urge to get out of bed, but i could try this. can you elaborate on what you do for autosuggestion, and do you only do this before bed? i'm interested in learning more about this "body clock" stuff. and how often are you able to notice your wakings without moving, and how long did it take you to do this? thanks!

That would of been the point. Then your body gets adjusted to getting up at that time.

ok, i still want to hear some people tell their own stories... i think it's easier to learn about a technique like this after knowing what to expect based on others' experiences.

i took a look at a FILD tutorial by Swikity, which explained a method to train yourself to wake up in your REM period:

Place a glass of water (Juice sometimes works better) on a nightside table, or on the headboard of your bed.
Just make sure it is somewhere that you can easily grab it in the middle of the night.

Make sure you're thirsty when you go to bed, as this is exactly what this technique works on.
When you go to bed, take a big sip of your water/juice.
      This will feel really refreshing.
While you are starting to sleep, you should feel a temptation to take a sip of your water/juice.
You can go ahead and do that, but just don't drink it all.

Now in the middle of the night, usually during your REM period, you will wake up to take a sip from your drink.
i think i'll try this. i'm assuming that once you train yourself this way you can stop getting up to take a sip and instead stay still for a DEILD. otherwise i might just start using an alarm again and then discontinuing this when i feel like i can wake up naturally at that time.
