What number do you get to?

When counting during a WILD attempt, what number do you reach, on average? I haven't been able to reach SP or HI and am wondering about how long it takes. I've gotten to over 800, but I doubt that all WILDs take that long. After I reached 800, I switched my focus to the black field of vision, but still was unsuccessful. Should I have reached HI sooner or have continued waiting?

It could take a very long time for some people using this method, some people can get to 100 and already enter SP. Your goal shouldn't be to see HI, but simply to fall asleep, Not everyone see's HI while attempting to WILD, I don't see HI at all, never have, and I doubt I ever will. I would recommend looking into some of the other techniques on the board, It's tough to do what every technique says exactly, I find it's easier if you learn how a majority of them work, then use them in whatever way is comfortable to you.
What time are you attempting to WILD? During a Nap, WBTB or are you doing it before bed?

Thanks for the reply. I've tried both in the afternoon and WBTB, and I didn't even bother with before bed because of its lower probability.

I'm glad that I don't need HI, but what am I aiming for? Do I simply stare at the back of my eyelids or keep counting and being aware of my physical body? And from what I read, the LD will just come itself, right, without me having to do anything other than stay still?

The trick that often works for me is to relax as if I was going to sleep normally and try to catch myself sometime before going under and THEN begin counting.

It's true that most of the time you will probably fall asleep before catching yourself, but at least you will be asleep and have the opportunity to LD.

Your goal is to simply stay aware while you fall asleep, Keep your eyes closed and try to stay still, and relaxed and count your breaths. If you want a good tutorial try Yoshi's WILDing technique, it's good cause it doesn't rely on you staying still for a long time, which I find to be difficult. You may find it easier to stay still, everyone has different experiences while attempting to WILD.
When you say you were unsuccessful do you mean you gave up, or fell asleep, ect.?

Wow, the Seeker posts in my first thread. Not bad!

I'll definately try that, almost going to sleep before counting. I don't know exactly how I usually fall asleep, but I suppose I'll just relax and "drift off."

What I mean by unsuccessful is that I give up, usually after losing what might be a segue into a dream, usually after about an hour and a half. Different times, I've had my vision go from 2d to kind of like a dome coming in, all while remaining black; I feel it coming down, and then it goes back to normal. Other times, I feel my chest expanding and lifting upwards, but then it stops. I get up or move a leg, but my physical body moves!

WILDs can take close to an hour the first time, the key is to find the technique that works best for you. If you don't see HI using an HI based technique isn't going to work that well. When you get to the point that you want to give up, that's your body testing to see if your mind is asleep.

Oh wow good question, i did this earlier this week but i know i got to at least 200, maybe closer to three hundred but not that close. But i didn't experience sp or hi, i just entered the dream, i forgot what the dream was about but i remember being lucid, and i remember sleeping on the couch. It was over 200 breaths.

I tried a couple more times this morning, with noted improvement. I felt SP go up to my knees the first time without counting at all, but it faded completely upon reaching my knees. The second time, I moved every once in a while following Yoshi's guide and got close to falling asleep, but still nothing happened. I don't think it was HI, but I was seeing some random scenes that were probably just thoughts or daydreams. I feel like I'm getting closer.

Thanks for the technique advice, Xyster. I'll keep trying different ones until I find one that works.

No problem, glad to help, and you don't have do exactly what the tutorials say, mix and match some of the techniques to what suites you.

Xyster and Seeker both speak the truth.

Also, if you still like the idea of counting, try counting to ten (breaths), and then back down. And don't count how many tens you've counted. :x

I'll give this a try on my next attempt. (or maybe I'll mix it with something else).

Wow, I must have set a record or something. Both Seeker and Abra post in my first thread! I'll be a pro at this in no time! (well, maybe after a few thousand tries...)

I made this into a poll. It should be interesting and hopefully encouraging to see the results, and perhaps the differences between veteran lucid dreamers and those who are new to this.

It's good to see that under 50 is the #1 poll option chosen. Hopefully I'll be able to WILD in under 50 one day!

I can't ever count myself into a LD either. I have gotten to 800 before as well. -.-
