is it SP or begginning?
I lay in bed, reverse blink, get really tired quickly.
Shortly after I start to see random white lights float across, and random sounds (mostly inaudible voices), i feel my breathing get really shallow. Am i going into Sleep paralysis, am i about to enter a dream???
what can i do to stay up at this point??? sometimes i try and visualize (imagining the 5 senses) and outline the dreamworld i want to enter, but it never forms???

That would be the onset of SP and Hypnagogic Hallucinations, or HH. It means you're quite close. Think of the hallucinations as the gateway to your dream...they sort of introduce you to it. I wouldn't necessarily advise seizing control of the HH at this point, though they can be used to sort of "drift" into a dream. If you make it through the HH and it begins to fade, go ahead and do a reality check...there's a strong possibility that you are dreaming. At this point, many report getting "stuck" in their dream bodies...the most popular method of overcoming this is to "roll" out of your body.
Don't quote me on this; I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure this is the general gist of things. :) Good luck. (Quietly protesting the 10-character limit)

Well said Mario. Once you feel SP setting in and the transition process beginning, make sure you you don't get too emotional (excited, anxious, apprehensive, etc.). Just stay calm and "ride the tide" of the transitional process. Good luck to you!

When I get to this point, I like to start imagining a new dream body for myself, doing something engaging and familiar. Something that is easy to imagine yourself doing. Something physical, that helps you feel a new body for yourself.
Don't get frustrated if you pop out of this state prematurely. Stay relaxed, keep doing what you were doing, and you should slip right back in. Sometimes I will bounce back and forth a few times before finally entering a dream. If you are falling asleep prematurely, don't worry. Better to fall asleep during a WILD than to wake up. You have a good chance of the following dreams becoming lucid just from the attention you have given.
