Stuck in the Vibrations

Hello there dreamers,

Recently, I've been experimenting with WILDing, and OBE's and what-not.
I think both are acheived the same way and are very similar, but they definitely have sparked my interest, and I would love to lucid dream through this method.

However, everytime I lie down, I start to concentrate on my breathing, I start falling deeper and deeper into a sort of trance, im calm and just pushing other thoughts aside and then all the sudden its like BAM, I start feeling vibrations over my body, and my heart starts thumping harder.

Now heres the thing, I dont think Im actually in sleep paralysis because I can move my lips to swallow while im salivating, and I can move my eyes around in my head, and im pretty sure if I wanted to, I could just move, but it feels incredibly and noticably different all the sudden and I can really feel those vibrations. My problem is, I can't seem to get past this stage, my heart races to fast, so I focus on calming it with deep breathes, but eventually the vibrations go away and I have to start over again.

What do I do?

Those vibrations are a common type of hypnagogia. Don't get frustrated if the vibrations stop. Sometimes I will need to go through two or three rounds of vibrations before I can successfully enter a dream. Just keep doing what you were doing, and you should bounce back into that same state of mind.

Proceeding from the vibration stage you are describing into a full dream can be tricky. Try to use visualizations to help make it easier. Imagine yourself doing something involving, that engages multiple senses. I like to do something that engages my sense of touch and movement. This helps distract you from your real body, and move into a dream. Some examples of things you could try would be standing in front of a wall in your house, running your hands over the wall, feeling the texture. You could also try to imagine running down a familiar street, feeling the movement of your body and the pavement under your feet. Don't make it too difficult. Use a recent memory, or something familiar.

Thats really helpful, I'll continue to try, and just stay relaxed when the vibrations come and go, and just ride it out. And the visualization on my dream body is something I will focus on as well, thanks for the quick reply, it was really helpful!

Would you say I've reached Sleep Paralysis when the vibrations and hypnogogic images kick in? Or does that come after it?

Be patient. I also sometimes go through 2 or 3 rounds of vibrations. Tell yourself to relax and that you're about to enter a dream. Listen to your body - my first clue is my mouth feeling like it turns to a frown, then it feels like my body sinks a couple of inches into the bed (like its totally relaxed). I just roll out of bed at that point. Sometimes my legs will feel like they start to float and in that case I'll just float out of bed. I try not to focus on any images that I see because they lull me to sleep, but Robot's advice to visualize yourself doing something is good. A couple times I imagined myself riding a bike down a hill and all the feelings that go with it (wind in hair, stomach falling, etc....) and low and behold the LD started with me riding a bike down a hill. It was an image of my conscious mind's creation, not my subconscious and this is a difference for me.

If you've been in the vibrations for a long time, and especially if you suddenly feel numb, roll to one side as fast as you can. Otherwise the shadow people will get you because chances are you'll roll into an LD.

Yes, I often have that same sensation, but don't try to force it! Just wait for the dream to come to you.
