      Hypnagogic Paranoia?

While I doubt another "How close was I?" thread will change the world for better or for worse, I would really like to know what a successful WILDer thinks about my experience:

Last night during my WBTB/WILD attempt I experienced something difficult to categorize. If I had to choose, I'd say it was a daydream.
      Some details:
      • I was in the same fully relaxed/almost entirely numb/definitely not paralyzed state I always acquire.
      • I was letting thoughts and images flow freely. I was still 'seeing' the insides of my eyelids, and all images I will describe were strictly in my "mind's eye"(like a daydream).
      • My subconscious created the environment, and while I had not deliberately focused on the environment, my consciousness was completely focused on it(like a trance)

      The 'DayDream'
I was in a long hallway(similar to a school), seeing 'myself' in third person(again, typical for a daydream).

I became aware of several other people in the hallway, and they were all looking at me.

I started walking away from them, and they slowly followed me.

All at once, I was filled with an intense sense of paranoia, nothing I've ever experienced. And I don't mean that my character in the daydream became paranoid; rather, I mean that I, as the spectator, aware of my physical body and definitely awake, generated an extreme emotional response to the "daydream".

Even in all of the 'interesting' daydreams I've ever had, there were only 'imagined' feelings of adventure/sensuality/etc... Never a real response, and those are feelings that I am familiar with. I've never experienced paranoia.

I became aware of the paranoia, and I snapped out of the 'trance'. I tried to re-imagine the environment, but couldn't make it more than a vanilla daydream.

      My Interpretation
I've read many of you describe feelings of not being alone in your bedroom with you when you experience hypnagogia.

I believe my experience was similar. It wasn't that I felt "not alone" in my bedroom, rather that I was "not alone" in my mind. My best guess is that I experienced my subconsciousness 'fracturing' to create distinct personalities for the dream characters.

At any rate, I think this might be the closest to WILDing that I've been in the two months I've been trying.

I've never successfully WILDed or experienced hypnogogia, and I do not have any background in the field of Psychology. I'd appreciate any insight you can provide.

Sorry for the long post... I do that.

It was probably just hypnogogia, if I had to guess, but ask some of the more experienced members for clarification.

I've had similar daydreams before and yes, they can make you very nervous. Why, I don't know...
