Hey. So after reading some posts about meditation, I got kinda interested. Some questions I have:

1. Okay sp the best symbol I've heard is to think of your mind like a glass of muddy water that needs to be clear. Meditation is the act of letting your mind quiet so these thoughts can sit. This is generally done by focusing on something. You can research many techniques and find which ones work best for you, and also try to look up a guru in your area or meditation group as that helps.
2. It takes a long time to really gain clarity of the mind for many people, and to be honest I haven't really been doing it very long and have had very mixed accounts of what to expect. But basically the best approach is to find structure, explore many different techniques to meditating before you are satified, and if possible work with people. You will probably hear for your self with research that the best place to meditate is a room dedicated to it, to.
Of course after you defeat the obstacle of getting your schedule rolling and start getting into it you'll come into other obstacles as well that will prevent you fom meditating, whether they are urges, strong feelings or just random thoughts that you can't control. Your best bet is to just become aware of them, observe them from outside of yourself and let them pass away. Don't try to suppress anything into the unconscious because it'll just come back.
3. Theoretically becoming mindful would not help you realize you were dreaming, necessarily, though it might just. I have never tried to become mindful in a dream I can remember. However, otherwise yes meditation can help you lucid because you are exercising your brain in concentration. While trying to WILD, or once becoming lucid maintaining lucidity, a steady, calm concentration is essential.
4. Meditation is also about awareness. It is a mometary break into reality. Relaxation is a nice side-effect, to be honest. Through meditation you can see the world without judgment, as a place of constant wonder, enjoyment and adventure.
