I've just started trying to compose my first Classical guitar piece. And well I've run into a wall. Does anybody here write music themselves? Can you tell me what you do when you get a writers block?

Do any of the transitions sound right to you? or is there a part i should change. Or do you have any suggestions as to where i should go next?

well that's the instrument i plan to play it on IMO. But yeah it sounds better on a steel string, midi wise. And yes, I plan on adding a second voice. I'm just lost on where to go from there xD.Quote:

here it is new and improved. all i did was change the timbre and started adding a second voice. The second voice i composed felt better to repeat certain parts.
have you ever heard of paul gilbert? he plays good classics on electric guitar. A lot of people don't like that being played on electric. but i think it adds a good feel. That's why i'd like to compose songs specifically for electric guitar. Not tjust typical generic shred songs. we have enough of that.Quote:

And my perspective is purely that of a traditionally inclined classical composition student, not a connoisseur of virtuosic solo guitar pieces, so take my opinion with a grain of salt and pepper. :D

Well, no I never had any chord progression in mind. I wanted To give it an improvisational quality. much like Bach's chromatic fantasy.

there's a few chord progressions here and there. but it just seems to drift here to there.
C minor rules. Other than that, throw all rules out of the window. At least, that's what I do with piano music, I forget about the rules and just play. You'll end up using them anyway :P
This thing needs bass and legato play. It's a bit dry :P

well here it is with more of a bassline. I don't want to add stacatto or legato yet. I'd rather leave it up to the player to determine what sounds best to them if they play it. I hate it when adjudicators or judges of music whine and complain if a person plays a piece that doesn't conform to their standards.

since I've been adding the bass notes. It's starting to sound more like a song.
It's much better now, with organs. Still not my style, but it's good in it's own right.
I really like them. One sounded too tin-ny (sp?!) to me. When I looked at properties all it said was comp #!.mid

Does anyone know how to write music they hear? I love writing songs but don't know how to write music or read it, which is very frustrating lol
I can read music. And I have perfect pitch. That's where you know each note just by hearing it. (If you didn't know) I've never tried composing anything though...Quote:

Very cool. I don't know if my pitch is "perfect", but if I hear a song usually just once and I have a keyboard, I can play the song simply (I can't play complex chords).
I don't know of any software for writing music. I've tried some programs over the years but they didn't help with timing (I can barely write notes but I definitely canNOT write timing!).
Right now though, I can't even seem to load a voice file... I have a lot of trouble shooting to do lol
hey Z. there's a program called sibelius. or something like that. I use guitar pro, which is a midi notation software for guitar. Very easy to use. Hope this helps.
And Z, a lot of video game music seems very classical influenced.

Ooh hoo hoo..let me get started.
First off, i can't get the file right now. I'm on a shitty old computer with no working speakers. So, I'll just give general writers block.
Take a form of a mode, start up a recording program, and doodle away with the single notes. Like playing around with a solo scale on top of a background. Instead play with classical style. Then later, reviews what you like, and write out the parts you like, and incorporate them into your song. But seriously, the point of the recorder is so you cn play and play and play and get lost in it. That's when the best music comes out. And trying to remember something cool you did is a waste of time.
After you find a little thing you like, classicalize it. Make it into a chord, make it different, and just throw that in the song somewhere. Basically, I would (But I'm a coding nerd so...) make an outline of the song with HTML with links to the mp3s of the coool things I did. When you have the whole song planned out, just whistle transitions from one part to the next.
Also, when i get writers block, stop. just quit thinking about it. Go to Starbucks, flirt with the barista over a cup of hot tea. Come home, and boom, you probably already have something for your song. And maybe even a number.

The way I write music is a bit like this.
I sit on the couch, watching tv. I feel an urge to play piano. I run to the piano, and play, play, play, play and play some more. Later I try to remember what I've played.

Here is my opinion. Take it for what you want.
Try changing up the rhythm to make it more interesting. I see the lead voice follows the same 1/16 dotted, 1/16, 1/16 dotted rhythm the whole time. Try using 1/8 triplets in places for a more flowing feeling. For example, I think bars 15-16 would benefit from being 1/8 triplets.
Also, don't forget rests in the lead voice as well. Don't take this harshly but it just goes on and on.
And a little off topic......I really like using quintuplets and septuplets. Especially trilled or tremolo. I think too few musicians use odd groupings when they can add so much "spice" to the sound.
Btw, how long have you been playing?
