I've just started trying to compose my first Classical guitar piece. And well I've run into a wall. Does anybody here write music themselves? Can you tell me what you do when you get a writers block? |

When I saw this topic, I thought you were going to be talking about some onanistic electronic noise, so I’m glad to see someone having a go at real music. |

Oh good, so I'll be able to see the score. |

How's it classical then, if you're playing it on an electric guitar?? |

have you ever heard of paul gilbert? he plays good classics on electric guitar. A lot of people don't like that being played on electric. but i think it adds a good feel. That's why i'd like to compose songs specifically for electric guitar. Not tjust typical generic shred songs. we have enough of that. |

I had a listen, haven't looked at the score. It's a bit like what the American composer Virgil Thompson would describe as "salt and pepper music" - a whole lot of little dots but not really any melody... Like an accompaniment without a tune. Did you plan out a chord progression and then base it upon that, or just make it up as you went along? I ask because it doesn't quite seem to go anywhere. Planning a good chord progression is like planning a day trip...You plan where you want to end up, take a few detours here and there then go back to where you started. If you plan it out first, you'll have some idea of where you're going and hopefully won't have to stop half way with composer's block. |

Well, no I never had any chord progression in mind. I wanted To give it an improvisational quality. much like Bach's chromatic fantasy. |

C minor rules. Other than that, throw all rules out of the window. At least, that's what I do with piano music, I forget about the rules and just play. You'll end up using them anyway |
|
Actually it's in A minor (I think.) |

It's much better now, with organs. Still not my style, but it's good in it's own right. |

I really like them. One sounded too tin-ny (sp?!) to me. When I looked at properties all it said was comp #!.mid |

I can read music. And I have perfect pitch. That's where you know each note just by hearing it. (If you didn't know) I've never tried composing anything though... |
|
LD's - 5
WILD's - 1
Very cool. I don't know if my pitch is "perfect", but if I hear a song usually just once and I have a keyboard, I can play the song simply (I can't play complex chords). |

hey Z. there's a program called sibelius. or something like that. I use guitar pro, which is a midi notation software for guitar. Very easy to use. Hope this helps. |
