Easy. Just get into the habbit of asking yourself if you're dreaming every time you wake up in the morning. False awakenings can seem more real than normal dreams, so use one of the almost foolproof methods, like looking at your hands to see if they look strange, or looking at a clock twice expecting a different result the second time, or try to read something detailed. Do that every time you wake up and all false awakenings will turn into lucid dreams.
Someone posted the idea to put a sign in your room, on your ceiling or somewhere you'd see it right when you wake up that says do a reality check. Never done this myself but it would probably work.
I used to just RC when I woke up but I've been having tons of LDs from other methods so I don't even think about it anymore. I should though, I had at least 4 FAs 2 or 3 days ago. One where I was WILDing in a dream, which was really fucking cool but I never became lucid.
^stonedape, I was the one who said to put a poster on your ceiling :D
try that, or just do autosuggestion and say you will RC any time you wake up, or just get into the habit of asking if you are dreaming and doing a reality check any time you awaken
It's a good idea, but I;m tooooooo lazy.
you guys that have false awakenings. do you get them a lot because you are having/attempting lucid dreaming or would you get a lot of false awakenings anyway?
I only ask because I dont get them much (in fact, I get the reverse), so should they be expected more often when you are having lots of lucids?
Possibly... but I do a RC every time I wake up, and never detect them. I have had some false awakenings in the past that I was aware of but they are very rare.
As for the OP, I would say do a quick nose-plug rc each time you wake perhaps. I like the poster on the ceiling idea too.
oh yeah... and is there nyway to get MORE false awakenings??
Yeah...well I sleep naked and sometimes I wake up and whoever I was just dreaming about is suddenly in bed next to me and I get worried and try to get dressed without them realising Im naked and then I realise I'm awake and its just my girlfriend there. It happens all the time!
awwwwwwww.... okays :(
hahaha. One thing I noticed recently is that I'm usually not naked when I have FAs, but I always sleep that way.
Was reading this thread http://www.dreamviews.com/f49/finger...eam-fild-4779/ it seems that the first sign that it has worked is that you automatically get a false awakening. Maybe that would work?
Man your signiature freaked me out when I got up and came here. I didn't realise it was an animated gif. I thought this false awakening is incredibly real as the text changed and I had to do a reality check and then twigged it was just a gif image. Quite embarrassing admitting this but I don't care as I got a laugh out of it.
I LOVE FAs! I used to be able to induce those but not anymore..:(.

Man, I can't believe I see so many people complaining that they have false awakenings. Getting in the habit of RCing when you wake up is so much easier than training yourself not to move when you exit a dream, or trying to WILD. It's automatic free lucids with a fraction of the effort of normal induction methods! I wish I could get more!
I second this question.Quote:
how did you induce them before?
I used a dimmed light bulb on the table in the vicinity of the room and I was able to focus my falling asleep awarenes onto it since I was also able to see some of the light through my closed eyelids. It either gave me an FA or a dream about lights which I also do as a hobby during waking life. The FAs I had are very short but I do have LDs from them occasionally. Sometimes it induces an FA nightmare where I am unable to move and I yell myself awake other times it is because of something else...accidental FAs. I had 2 amazing FAs using the light of which I call the "Evolving Awareness FA"....the experience did not involve any awareness self on the bed other than some vague conciousness and it was pure awareness of the lightbulb which hovered from it to other parts of the room and I remembered I was to create a dream character and then the wall opened up and there it was I woke up after that. I did it again the second time in a row.
