When you do WILD (assuming you're doing WBTB) you should get up and walk around for a few minutes, maybe get a glass of water and go to the bathroom (this way you're not about to black out when you lay back down). You should also relax yourself before you start the WILD attempt (for example sitting on your bed and meditating). Then you need an "anchor", something that you can focus on passively you keep your subconscious awake while you fall asleep (like the white noise from an air conditioner). The rest of WILDing is pretty well outlined in designated forums. You just have to find what works for you. Happy dreaming! :D
In my honest opinion, that's what's supposed to happen - all that's lacking here is awareness. One cannot WILD without first going to sleep, as you need to be asleep to have a dream. Although I agree with the above, I'd have worded it differently as a lot of people misinterpret ''awake'' as ''don't go to sleep''. This isn't the case - what you do is stay aware and let yourself fall asleep, which is something else entirely. To get to grips with the processes you go through when falling asleep, I'd recommend meditating every time you're going to go to bed. Observe what's happening (without internal-dialogue) and you'll soon pick up the jist of it, which will help immensely when attempting to WILD.
I agree the term "awake" can be misleading. WILD means Wake Induced Lucid Dream not Wake Induced Lucid Awake. It can only happen when you're dreaming and to dream you have to be asleep and to lucid dream you have to be aware that you are asleep. Trust me, it's better to drift off to sleep and not lucid than to lie there awake and not sleep. It sounds like you're headed in the right direction.
