Visualization in general gets much easier when you're close to falling asleep, so don't worry if it seems daunting now. As far as visualizing something specific, I don't think that's possible. You're better off getting into any dream and then changing the dream scene from within the dream.
By the way, I love your pic. Did you make it?
Just close your eyes and visualise, you'l get used to it the more you do it. I don't usually see anything when i visualise, i think the term is conceptualisation, dont quote me, basically close your eyes and think of a wooden box, think of all the properties of a wooden box, you dont have to see it, just think of it and you will see that you build a faint picture in your mind. Then you can start adding more to it. This is how i do it anyway, I start of with something simple. If i want to build a scene, first I think of what i want the ending to be, then think of a beginning that would eventually lead to the end, filling in the middle as i go. The more interesting and fun it is the more it will stick in your mind. Give it a few tries and see how it goes.
In order to practice visualizing, I usually visualise specific scenes and actions while listening to music, depending on what type of music, though. For metal (only because of the 1 cure word in it :() , I'll imagine myself fighting an army or a really powerful anime character or saving someone from death. For rock and roll, such as ELO. I'll visualise calmer scenes and try to make the most vivid picture with the most detail that I can without loosing train of thought, I guess you could call it meditating...
If you visualize something when you're close to falling asleep, it is much easier and more realistic, and it can also lead to WILD, if the scene pulls you in.
There's lots of ways of doing this. I'm struggling to find any good material on this myself. What ShadowOfSelf says is useful but I'd say that you can see things in your minds eye. Its good to work with images that arise, but this only happens if you're in the right state often after doing a wake up back to bed images will arise on their own. At the moment I'm struggling to see anything at all at any time so to try and get things going I'm conceptualising as ShadowOfSelf suggests. I start with simple objects and then move on to scenes. When you get good at it, the images start to kindof flash into perfect sharp images with perfect detail at which point I tend to panic and it goes away instantly. If you can hold on to the image in your head though you can enter it or just look up from it and you'll be in a dream or in your astral body or whatever you want to call it - usually you'll only manage this in the morning, but if you get really good who knows. Practice makes perfect :). I'll keep looking for some good material and post it if I find some.
Visualizing utilizes the same part of of the human brain as dreaming. Specifically the secondary visual cortices (aka cortex). Visualizing while deeply relaxed is a proven method for inducing sleep ergo this simple method can assist in inducing non-REM lucid dreams. A simple way of visualizing is to put on soft music and imaging watching someone ice skate to the music. One can also visualize a sign that reads 'You are dreaming' ... this would be the visualization equivalent of a MILD. A practical application of visualizing can also be done to enhance a WILD attempt. After waking up simply visualize the last dream you can recall. This is the easiest method I have found to induce a lucid dream.
Good luck to you! :shadewink:

I don't understand the focus on RCs in that guide. Since consciousness is maintained when entering a visualisation why would you need an RC. I've certainly never had any doubt I was dreaming after entering a visualisation. I don't like to be negative in general since most things work in lucid dreams due to the nature of intention but that guide looks poor.Quote:

I've noticed that often what I saw or watched the previous night will feature somehow in my dream that morning. It's always random, but if I want to see (or be?) a certain character from a show I watched and then I visualize that person, for example, would that work?
The real trouble is I can never tell when I'm slipping into sleep, it just kind of happens suddenly. The only exception is occasionally in the morning when I'm kind of hanging between wakefulness and sleep, and I hear weird sounds and such, but that's only happened to me a few times.
