Download the latest version of Lucid Scribe and the Mouse Plugin. And click on current.
Then, if you hold the mouse button down for at least 60 seconds - or less, if you move the mouse around avidly, the FIELD trigger is set and will play the anthem when the button is released again. The idea is to hold the mouse with the button pressed down as you are falling asleep and then catch yourself when you drift off and let go.

Thanks. You are invited to post the results on LSDBase - the logs will show how many attempts and how long it took. If you do this during an afternoon nap or during a WBTB after a few hours of sleep it will increase the odds.
I have updated the plugin and Lucid Scribe to make the mouse movements smoother.
Great idea! a Wireless mouse may indeed be very useful, and some come with a USB extensions that can be run closer to the bed. I would be very interested in the results.Quote:

Pro tip: hold the mouse upside-down or sideways as the weight of a resting finger may suffice to keep the spring compressed.

Edit: I'll try again tomorrow. This seems something I can do (since I've been using a vibrator app for the Blackberry as an anchor for a WILD after a few hours of sleep.
I think you may find that this is an issue with the performance counters not working correctly. Can you see your CPU usage when you open perfmon (Start>Run>Perfmon)? (Not task manager.)
As a temporary work-around you can save the following text as "CPU.lsd"

Thanks! You can replace the "Anthem.mp3" file in C:\Program Files\lucidcode\Lucid Scribe. I am working on the Playlist feature as we speak which will let you do this more elegantly and queue up different songs for each time the trigger is fired.

I woke up after a 4-4.5 hours of sleep. I started the program, it went good for a while. I caught myself drifting off and the music plays, and I regain consciousness again. But after a while, I just gave up and went back to sleep. :P
I'll try again this afternoon when I take a nap.
And what does "Calibration" part of the program do (for Mouse X, Y, etc.)? I didn't want to fiddle with it, so I left all of them blank :P

If I remember correctly, I woke up at around 4:10-4:19 AM before I started the induction technique.
I started to doze off to sleep at 12:20 AM before then, but I was testing for the trigger to start, and it's fine for me :) I should probably count in my head for a while to make sure that I at least past the 60 second mark every time as well.
I just realized I should use this not only as a possible induction, but to see how long it takes me to fall asleep as well :D I feel glad that I'm doing something scientific from my break from my University.
I should strap my mouse to my hand too so it won't leave me haha.

The calibration setting is for other hardware plug-ins to align the values to 1000 to fit in with the rest of the plug-ins.
What happened when you tried to make a video? Perhaps it is the compression... try this: right-click on a minute and select Export to -> Video and then press Record. Choose a file name, save and select "Microsoft Video 1" as the compressor. The anthem still has to be manually added - I use Windows Movie Maker for that which then compresses the file some more.
If you right-click on the day (04), you can select Export to -> LSDBase to post it on LSDBase.org with a summary of your observations on how long it took to fall asleep for those that are signed up for the newsletter.
Yeah, I think I'll just post my results on LSDBase instead of the videos. :P
Can't wait to try this again tonight. I couldn't get lucid in both times I slept today, but I did get decent recall from both. :)

You wouldn't mind if I used my Blackberry Curve's vibration app to aid with remembering to hold on to the mouse buttons? I wrap my hand on the mouse with tape with my left, and thought that if I have constant vibrations on my right wrist, that can anchor the FIELD anchor I'm using. :P

Second day results (I plan to do this for a month if you don't mind, in hopes for other people to try it as well, and it's fun being part of private research :P)
I slept pretty late (around 2:30ish AM), but I woke up around 8:00 AM, typed as much as I could remember from my dreams (which took longer than 90 minutes since I was doing other things in the mean time).
I tried to do the Blackberry Curve on my right wrist combination thing, but it got annoying for me because it vibrating too loudly, so I just went back to the "tape my hand to the mouse" thing.

Don't pay too much attention at the data from the 45 minute mark, I woke up and was going to type the dream I had from this short sleep. (I think I woke up around 11:30 PM, so maybe I held on to the mouse buttons while experiencing the dream.

Dream Journal Entry 1/5/12 (Sadly it's all non-lucid)
I know this is just my second day, but already I see the dreams relating to me trying the technique out is me suddenly having the urge to kill kill kill. (You know like tap tap tap tap to shoot)
That's not normal for me, and I think the last part of the dream where Sam Fisher is injecting something to his next was probably me clicking on the mouse frantically (not too sure on that, but the dream was kind of freaking crazy for me....with all guards coming back to life even though I stabbed and shot them...)
Anyway, going to try it again as usual tonight.

Pro tip: do not to move. At all. When the FIELD trigger fires, you may not even want to click the button again, as it might be enough to reset the brain's idle count. This is one hour into the experiment:

Do you suggest that once that happens and I hear the music, I should try to enter the dream state through another anchor to keep me passively aware? I'm confused :P
Once you hear the music you should be on the border of the dreamworld. If you move too much - or at all, really - then you may need another ~15 minutes to get there again. So try to enter a dream right then and only click the button again if nothing happens, but be as careful as possible not to move any unnecessary muscles.

Now it all makes sense! I see, so if no experiences of me going into the dream state is occurring, I go back to clicking until it happens.

By the way, is the information from the graphs getting a little more accurate? Because it looks straight-forward to me now. (Me letting go for a certain time and having the dream before I click again at the 45 minute mark on the last picture I showed).
Sure. The information in the graphs makes perfect sense to me, but then again - I see them in my dreams.
Day 3: I was a little impatient after I woke up around 7 AM. I forgot the dreams I had when I started to sleep around 1:40 AM. I was just too anxious for things to start haha, but I'll get better. Normally I'm patient and can stay still forever, something just came over me. :/

Day 5:
Nothing but remembering two more dreams.
I installed the program on my netbook and found that it wouldn't recognise the input from the trackpad and planned to test it out with a mouse and forgot :/ I'll try hooking up the mouse now and if I have any problems I'll let you know :)
EDIT: Tried it with a mouse - now it responds to the movements and clicking of the mouse - but when I tested the FIELD alarm I got this error and no sound played

That's so strange - I never realised I don't have Windows Media Player installed on this! Must be the lite-version of Win7, re-ticking it in the Windows Features section should do the trick!

Someone woke me up to say that there's a tornado warning, and nope, no tornado apparent here, so they basically screwed up my chance of a lucid, and I was CLOSE TOO.
I WAS THIS CLOSE I TELL YOU! And then they said I had an attitude and asked what was wrong with me because I was mad at them. (I can't even tell them I'm using this for lucid dreaming, or the fact that I've been practicing lucid dreaming since June; so I feel like a mad scientist)

Things went smoothly this time. No distractions. Recalled 4 dreams after I recalled 2 dreams before taping the mouse again. (I found that taping the little sensor on the bottom prevents the mouse from moving, so I don't have to worry about right clicking anymore). No lucids though, but I'm just happy recalling more details in my dreams.

Forgot to do the technique in general because it was so tempting to fall back to sleep after having a personal fight with the alarm clock. Hope other people are recording their results. Seems everyone is forgetting this forum is mostly for understanding practical ways for lucid dreaming.
Sigh :( But I'm glad you made this program Coder, makes things a lot easier, I honestly don't know why people don't have time to try this out, especially if they can do it while they're sleeping. Oh well, their loss I guess.
Hopefully Day 9 will prove to be better.
Thanks man! And thank you for all your testing. I have been hacking away at the Export to LSDBase functionality. The next version will have a preview screen and post instantly - hopefully out in a day or two, so you won't have to wait an indeterminate amount of time before the posts appear anymore.
I am sure more people will try this out in due time. Especially once some variables have been isolated (like the time of day of the WBTB, after how many hours it started, etc. that you are testing) and more hardware plugins are available.
Day 9:
I did two WBTB+FIELD, recalled 4 dreams. The last dream was because my hand felt weird holding the mouse for too long, and it ended up being a non-lucid (but experiencing emotions) in an all-out sex orgy with 5 women. Best.Experience.Ever.
No lucids though, but I'm getting used to falling asleep a little quicker, since my WBTB time is mostly just getting the mouse ready and doing a few test runs to make sure the Anthem would play. (No Lucids, probably semi-lucid)
Sometimes I wonder if I'm really lucid when I type my dreams. Maybe I need to re-define what I think lucidity is, because it's usually just me having a different experience from waking life. The dream sex especially, I felt as if I carried on my emotions in it since I was turning into a wild animal with the females. Not sure, but eh, oh well.

Interesting. I am afraid that day 8 didn't post because there was no LSD file attached, and the database will break later on if it has null values. But I see you merged it with day 9 so it is all good. And I had to censor some of the details of the dream content; that is best stored in Lightened Dream - the two apps will be linked in a future version. The database is for gathering all the variables around dreams and testing hardware, methods, substances... just a note whether a dream was lucid or not will suffice - the more focus on the variables the better.
But on a lighter note, version 1.0.6 is now out, which automates the entire upload to LSDBase process (just in time for my extended holiday where I will be offline extended periods). So please let me know right away if something goes wrong when you upload your next FIELD test! And what you think of the new upload process!
Furthermore, 2. (iii) indulge in no forbidden sexual pleasure.

I tried this out earlier in the week and I found that I was still quite aware when my body would let go of the mouse button - and the sudden movement of my finger and click of the mouse was more than enough to jolt me wide awake again. I tried a few times and eventually gave up and rolled over and went to sleep. I'm thinking I might need to try it when I'm more tired, so that instead of waking up completely I simply just get a little bit of awareness :)
Thanks for all the testing! I think we have covered most of the obvious variables with them. So I updated the mouse plugin to introduce a new one; instead of playing the anthem at the onset of sleep, it will now wait for roughly 10 minutes before playing the anthem. So please give the latest version of the mouse plugin (1.0.5) a try.
Sweet! I think one reason I was worried about the testing is making sure I at least held the mouse for a while before I started to doze off.
I just posted my results for Day 10, but the sample graph only showed a blank graph (I don't know if that's just a preview before the researcher sees it or something) :P

Almost! The sample graph was showing 0459 - which only had the button line on 800 (you will see the top line (800) has a different shade of blue). But all the data made it up, so I downloaded it and updated it with a new snapshot from 09.
You can control what the graph shows by changing the featured hour or minute in the post form:

The check-box determines whether it should load a minute or hour into the graph.
But I double checked for that. I'd figure that if it didn't show any data, something was wrong. But even when I changed it before the preview still showed empty data. But at least the actual post has the information now :P

Oh and by the way, I had this idea that I would talk to my Biochemistry Adviser about recruiting some people to try out your program if they were interested in doing sleep research. Then I had a dream that basically showed the worst case scenario if that were to happen. But it wasn't a dream from using the FIELD, I had a weird dream of some lady sucking out the air in my body from doing it. :o
But from the non-FIELD dream
Basically you were showing these people in a meeting about dreaming and all that fun stuff, then they started to think that I was some kind of visionary or nut job and most of them left. I felt kind of disappointed, but thankfully, it was just a dream.
I guess it's for the best that people in real life don't know I'm doing this in the first place. xD
And don't worry about the featured graph - I fixed it, and you should now also be able to log in to the site (from a browser) and manage your posts from there.
It looks like you were sleep-walk-clicking! What a shame that the anthem didn't play - I will update the code so that it would play at 16:24:32, in case the phenomenon ever recurs.
And good thing that you are paying attention to your dreams - that scenario would be rather awkward! :panic:
Day 12:
Had a lucid, but I didn't enter the dream state lucidly with the method. I just had the awareness that I was dreaming rather than questioning the reality in the dream. (Pretty vivid but short dream, led me to more questions on my Dream Guide).
It was a nap I took around 4 PM and woke up at around 6:40 PM.

Hopefully the new schedule I'll be getting used to tomorrow will convince me to get an early night's rest and have one of those rare WILDs that felt like OBEs/AP. Those were awesome, despite being short. I think I can get a longer lucidity now.

My bad. You simply hold the mouse button down while lying in bed and going back to sleep during WBTB. When you fall asleep again (and let go), a countdown timer starts which then plays a song after 10 minutes. The idea is to hear the song in your dream.

Well better discovering this late than never, I've already started some experiments for the first night but pretty much got nowhere, held down the button for one hour and though I dozed away 2 times I think I didn't release the button, couldn't fall asleep with the mouse in my hand later. 1. What I do to prevent myself from doing things on the PC is if you have a mouse that has a sensor, tape it up to where it can't pick movement from the surface. Also try Maximizing the small graph that records your movements rather than the whole Lucid Scribe program. This will ensure the pointer will stay in place, and no matter how much you move the mouse, it will stay in the same position all night long.
2. I think IamCoder will probably put that for future use.

Yeah it helps a bit, I guess I'll try blocking the sensor. My desktop is empty anyway (I constantly have at least 5 programs up and running and using folders for stuff is easier than diggin my way to the desktop and back).

I have added code to ensure that the mouse monitoring process is only running once and uploaded a new installer for the mouse plugin.
The playslist feature is still on my to do list, at the very top. It has been there for the longest time but I keep getting distracted with other things.
I also plan on adding settings to the plugins and will add a keyboard-cancel check box for you.
The source code for the mouse plugin is inStayC-Sharp and is on your hard drive in the program files folder under \lucidcode\Lucid Scribe\Source Code. I had to separate the mouse monitoring process as an executeable because the cursor would lag when the system is under heavy load. And no amount of threading would solve this.
I was about to get this as i often start to drift off when on my computer but when i come off it, i find it much harder to sleep but all those pictures seem abit complicated?
Those pictures are just the detailed logs - don't worry about them for now. All you have to do is click through two files: Lucid Scribe and the mouse plugin.
Then click on Start -> Programs -> lucidcode -> Lucid Scribe, select the "Current" button and hold the mouse button down until you fall asleep.
Bump. Wub wub wub. The playlist feature is now finally active! You can right-click to create new playlists and add tracks. A playlist can be "set as default" and a track "set as next".

Hmm... You better write about RSI in your terms of use to cover yourself.
The problem is that rsi can be induced by a constant strain (even small) without variety. People with sleeping difficulties such as myself may be holding this button for 2 hours and induce RSI with continued use rather than a lucid dream. In no way am I against your program it's just that I want to warn you that you should write it and people should click "I agree" before they use your program.
I have RSI myself and my schools poor ergonomics were blamed... Trust me you don't wanna get blamed for inducing diseases so if you have a little message about rsi then you can't be blamed and it's the users fault for using the program for extended periods of time. Anything more than 8 minutes is getting into the danger zone here. Just be careful about this whole thing because it could cost you.
To end on a positive note... I love your idea and would love it try out your program myself but due to my rsi I am unable to. Good luck with future developments and research.
