A couple LD problems I'm having.

My first issue is my dreams themselves. They don't seem to really happen to me. I remember having them, but I don't remember great details. When I'm actually in the dream it's like I'm missing a lot. It's hard to explain.

The second issue is I can't seem to purposefully fall asleep. Like...I can't guide myself into it. I get to distracted by other things! I've tried and tried to guide myself to sleep/sleep paralysis but the farthest I've ever gotten with it is I see some weird lights, my eyes start twitching, breathing starts getting hard, and my muscles tighten up. Now...I'm not to sure what I just described even is! But I can never get past that point for some reason. It happens EVERYTIME I try to WBTB/WILD...It's very discouraging.

So far the only time I've been able to have a lucid dream is when I'm actually dreaming, and I just kinda discover it out of nowhere. It's kinda like an accidental DILD. I'm assuming that DILD is something I'm going to have to put more effort into. But it seems to me like it might not work due to my dreams lack of vividness.

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to WILD, and are having trouble, there is a technique that will make it 80% easier. Its called DEILD, or dream exit induced lucid dream.

Just stay calm, this is a phase almost all experienced dreamers have gone through in their life- no reason to get discouraged. Just continue through it and it'll all work out for you eventually.

Try meditating a bit before going to sleep, may help out a bit, and getting frustrated will do you no good. If need be, take a break from trying for a day or two just so you can collect yourself and try again.

For your first issue, I'm not really sure what to do about that. I think it will improve over time as you put more attention towards dreams and increase dream recall.

What you experienced with the lights, twitching, and breathing stuff would be sleep paralysis. That means you're getting close, but transitioning from sleep paralysis to a dream is the hardest part in my opinion.

Since you've already had previous success with DILD I suggest you try that more or MILD. DILD/MILD techniques are typically much easier than WILD. I would think that it would be even easier since you have already experienced it before.

On a final note, you may want to read this tutorial. It will teach you a few different ways to increase your dream vividness from inside a dream after you become lucid.

I'd have to agree with Oreo, WILD isn't something I'd suggest to people first starting out on their LD journey. However, the choice is all yours, if you feel it's the best for you- then by all means do it.

WILD, in general, is more for people who meditate and have a bit of experience (or luck) with entering sp often and easily. Despite this, I have known many people who have worked up that ability (how do you get experience? PRACTICE)

The biggest problem with WILD, that I see, is that it attracts the most new comers and discourages them when they don't receive the promised results right away. If you have the persistance and dedication to stick with it, then it will reward you. ^^

Hmm, I see. I will stick with the beginners methods for now. But I will most certainly continue to practice WILD. I know it takes work, and time to get down. I'll get there eventually! FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! :D

If you're like me, WILDs may not be your thing. They come easy to some people, and extremely difficult for others. I would never tell you to give up, but since you've already had luck with DILD, you may want to focus there (like what Oreo said above), and maybe move to WILDing once you have a few more DILDs under your belt.

For DILDs, if you are worried about lack of clarity, there are ways to increase the detail of your dreams. There are some stabilization techniques can help like studying your hands or random dream objects. I know sometimes I'll become lucid and everything will be very blurry. Just by studying my hands for a minute, it can bring focus to the dream and all of a sudden the dream is bursting with color. I'm always amazed when this happens because the dream seems like it's MORE detailed than real life.

That's a great attitude to have. Keep it up and you'll be dreaming in no time.

It's not a matter of if you'll get a lucid, but when you do; and it all depends on you. Stay positive and committed and you'll be there soon.

I keep hearing about people having blurry lucid dreams. I don't really understand. All of mine from the beggining have been clear as crystal. It's the normal dreams that are hazy to me. It's not really a vision based thing. It's more of a memory thing. Like, I see something, and then it's gone kinda. I wish I knew how to explain it. xD

1. I have noticed, that my non-lucids are getting more detailed and vivid after I started lucid dreaming, practicing daytime awareness and writing my dreams in great detail in my DJ.

2. If you trying to WILD, your main goal is to fall asleep. If you are too awake when starting the attempt, just try to fall asleep normally and start WILDing when you get more sleepy. I think you are concentrating too hard on paying attention on how to WILD.

3. DILDs should not be influenced by lack of vividnes of your regular dreams, only by your recall. (If you don't remember regular, you may not remeber lucid either.)

4. You could start practicing daytime awareness, mantras RCs and write in your DJ. DILD could be your backup plan, in case your WILD doesn't work out. Hope this helps ;alien:

There's nothing wrong with DILD, if that is working for you. Try ADA and visualize whilst you are falling asleep.

When I first started out with lucid dreaming I was also discouraged, because it felt like I missed things out. But with a little recall practice and some lucid experiences they gradually got more and more vivid. So just observe what you can for now and it will take care of itself.

What you describe by tightening muscles,weird lights (I see blue :P ) and the feeling of not being able to breathe, is with Monroe terms called Focus 10 it's the full relaxation of both body (Focus 3) AND the mind (Focus 10). I am listening to his guided meditation or Gateway Waves so when I feel those sensations he works like a guiding voice explaining every single sensations or feeling I feel.
What he did in his first experience of Focus 10, was to imagine himself float up and all of the sudden he felt the sealing and saw himself and his wife in the bed and his reaction was that he thought he was dying :P Anyhow you should be glad that you can achieve Focus 10 because it's not far from Focus 12 (OBE/ or lucid dream what ever you want to call it).

I have just started to feel comfortable with all the five first tapes or waves so now I am going to start listen to the next part where he teach how to separate. If your interested in WILD and if this post was getting you motivated I highly recommend the Gateway Experience:
