Conditioning Idea
My idea is to use Pavlovian conditioning to induce lucid dreaming.
I'll explain one method of how this could be achieved:
During lucid dreaming, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DL-PFC) is activated. It's not active during non-lucid dreams.
Finding a way to activate it during an REM sleep might trigger lucidity.
One of the main functions of the DL-PFC involves working memory.
One of the best exercises to perform for the enhancement of working memory is N-back training.
This is the training we can use for conditioning.
Listening to a specific song can be used as the trigger to the activation of the DL-PFC.
Daily conditioning with song + N-back will be performed.
The song cannot be played without N-back training and the training will never be performed without the song.
After some time, the song should be enough to trigger the activation of the DL-PFC.
The next step is to play the song during REM sleep.
As hearing and conditioning are unconscious, the process should work as intended even when sleeping.
Lucidity will then be triggered.
I don't know if this is possible, but I will start training for this. I also can't find any reference about how long conditioning might take. Anyway... If others want to test it out as well, please do! You can find N-back training online or smartphone app stores. It's also good for juicing up your brain!
I have some other finer details about the process, but they're not yet necessary in this early stage.
Yours truly,
CitrusPsyche

genius. love it. i would imagine less than six months, possibly much less. my reasoning comes from the fact that i pavloved myself once while working in a restaurant. one time a fan kicked on that had nothing to do with food and i salivated. i realized that was usually the time of day that i ate lunch and so my body heard the sound and thought it was time to eat even though the two are totally unrelated in reality. i only worked there for six months so certainly somewhere in that time frame.
can't wait to hear your results.
i get most of what you're talking about but some of your terminology is esoteric.

lol and the wikipedia page on "n-back" is just as esoteric. in the defining sentences that would let a person who is not familiar with these ideas understand them the author frequently uses the very terms one would be seeking to understand! they jump right in like you are already in a neuroscience class and should already know about this stuff when in fact someone who knows nothing about the topics covered in the article would be completely lost. oh well.
