Taking the best of DILD and WILD to create new technique

From what I understand, WILD is so effective because the dream transition is such a powerful dream sign. But, WILD requires you to remain conscious until the transition occurs, which creates the tricky prospect of falling asleep while remaining conscious.

DILD lets you go into unconscious sleep, which is much easier, but often requires you to associate weaker dream signs with dreaming, which can also be tricky.

So, why not take the easy and effective parts of DILD and WILD and put them together by going into unconscious sleep while still using the transition into the dream as a dream sign? If enough attention was placed on this, it would be possible to dream about this transition as well in case you miss the real one.

All you would have to do in this technique to do is fall asleep while strongly intending to witness your next dream form in front of your closed eyelids. I think that's how it would work. I'll test it out.

It certainly works for me. This is how I fall asleep after a WBTB. I watch for hypnagogic imagery (the onset of dreams), and visualize a scene around them. As they grow stronger and stronger, I need to do less and less visualizing and the hypnagogics just develop into full scenes themselves. If I'm lucky, this makes me enter a WILD. If I fall asleep, I have a high chance of ending up in a DILD. I don't dream about the transition, but I am usually at least aware of dreaming from the start of the dream.

I tried my idea last night but it didn't work.

Maybe just increasing your awareness in general will naturally give you chances at both WILDs and DILDs like you mention Redrivertears.

I find that trying anything new when it comes to lucid dreaming takes a bit of time. Like the mind has to adjust to the new idea. That said, it doesn't work 100% of the time either. Sometimes new hypnagogics will come and I'll just lie awake until I turn over and give up. Sometimes sleep will hit me too fast before I can good and well focus. But it works often enough to make it worthwhile doing :).

Did this become the "stare" technique you mentioned in this thread?
I think the technique is promising and you should make a thread about it so more people became aware of it. I'm definitely trying it out.

No, this is different. I guess I'll make a new thread of the stare technique. I've been using it again lately with some success.

I feel like this technique could work on the basis of two things; awarness and intent. I also belive I saw a youtube video on something similar to this, but never actually tried it out.
