I repeat a mantra then imagine a previous dream where I become Lucid and create a scenario until I sleep
I've been able to recall dreams better so is that a good sign?

HI! I would suggest not doing the imagining part at first. You are trying to fall asleep while staying barely aware. Do this in the middle of the night after having woke up to use the restroom or setting an alarm for say 5 hours into your sleep. Use a simple mantra that is only a few words. Time it with your breaths. Perhaps: "It's a Dream" with "dream" timed with the exhale. Try to fall asleep. Forget about everything, but keep the mantra going.
Get to where you have some sort of dreamlike half sleep states and then tell us about it here.
