I think I was in the same boat as you here, Alric. The first time I tried, I got really really close. Then after that, things started going downhill. However, then I took a break for five days or so, and started trying again, and things are DEFINATELY improving for me, and I really feel like I'm making progress. (Even though no successful WILD yet...)
The key to what I'm saying is this:
DON'T make your WILD attempts too frequent, like every night, because you will "burn" and get progressively worse. Instead, perhaps every other day, or every third day, etc...?
Every now and then, take a break from your WILD attempts. Don't make this break too short, or you won't have "recovered" sufficiently. But don't make it too long, either, as you'll go "out of practice".
I found 5 nights did it quite suitably: I remembered enough about my past attempts to be able to pick it all up and make progress, but I had rested enough to have gotten enough sleep, and not be too obsessed about having a successful WILD. But hey, maybe a week, or whatever...
As with life, dreaming is a balancing exercise, I suppose... you've just gotta tamper around, find what works best. It's all trial and error...
