      WILD's getting harder

I always liked trying WILD but I have always been pretty bad at them. Infact it seems like each time I try I get worse. I remeber the first time I ever tried, I failed but I got really close. Ever since then I slowly got worse and worse at them. After the last big break I took from trying, I started again and now I notice I don't get any where at all. I might as well just lay there and stare at the ceiling and I get just about the same results.

I guess it just kind of bugs me that it seems backward from everything else. The more you try the worse you get. Anyone else ever notice that before?

Everyone experiences dry spells. It's terrible that WILDs are becoming harder for you. Maybe you just need to get reacclimated to doing them, since you have taken a break. Keep trying, or try another method. Good luck!

Though I have not become lucid yet, I think you should try a MILD paired with a WBTB (Read the tutorial) They are much easier in my opinion, but when you do them for awhile, try WILDS again.

I have tired them before too. I have never had a lucid dream from them though. They basicly give the same results as when I try WILD. Which is I just fall asleep or I just lay there and nothing happens untill I get up and do something else.

Well, is your dream recall good? Try autosuggestion. When you try a WILD, say something like "I WILL do a WILD tonight" That's all I can give you.

I think I was in the same boat as you here, Alric. The first time I tried, I got really really close. Then after that, things started going downhill. However, then I took a break for five days or so, and started trying again, and things are DEFINATELY improving for me, and I really feel like I'm making progress. (Even though no successful WILD yet...)

The key to what I'm saying is this:

DON'T make your WILD attempts too frequent, like every night, because you will "burn" and get progressively worse. Instead, perhaps every other day, or every third day, etc...?

Every now and then, take a break from your WILD attempts. Don't make this break too short, or you won't have "recovered" sufficiently. But don't make it too long, either, as you'll go "out of practice".

I found 5 nights did it quite suitably: I remembered enough about my past attempts to be able to pick it all up and make progress, but I had rested enough to have gotten enough sleep, and not be too obsessed about having a successful WILD. But hey, maybe a week, or whatever...

As with life, dreaming is a balancing exercise, I suppose... you've just gotta tamper around, find what works best. It's all trial and error...

The only other little tip I'd give is that if you've convinced yourself, even only subconsciously, that you're getting worse every time, guess what happens?

So, taking short breaks from your attempts could work, so could sitting down and really forcing yourself to believe that you can do this. Also reading other peoples success stories might help convince yourself it's possible for you.

Anyway, on the bright side what with all the practice you've been getting, when you do manage to do it you should at least be able to do it easily from then on, right?

If that was true, then it would have worked from the start when I got very close and I thought for sure it would work the next time.

Ah but you need practice as well as belief. I'd have to bow down to the greatness of anyone who managed to do one successfully in only a couple of tries.

If taking a break hasn't helped then I'd start looking for anything that had changed since I was close. The only thing you mentioned was that you now believed you were getting worse, so looking at how confident I was would just be the next thing I'd try. Like you said, you were close so there can't be much wrong with what you are doing.

Thats not something that would just change in a day though. And you don't lose confidence when you get close on the first try. Besides I don't believe belief has anything to do with dreaming. I know once when I first got started with lucid dreaming, I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere, and that night I had zero confidence yet out of no where I had 3 lucid dreams in a row.

Fair enough, it's just something that worked for me when I found an aspect of dreaming difficult and felt like I was on a downward spiral. Breaking my current thought patterns and restarting was what did the trick for me. Good luck though,WILDs are well worth the effort when you can do them.

yep i agree with everyone who said its about your motivation and what you are telling yourself. i suggest trying brainwave generator. its a program which pretty much can change your brain waves. there is a built in self hypnosis thing. (there are actually two).

      hope that helps!
