How could I miss this?

Tonight, I was dreaming that I was standing in front of a university, but decided to go back to my high school, seeing as I had nothing to do there yet >.>
Anyway, after making that decision, I turned around and was back at school in an instant. Now, after a few moments I started to think about how I didn't remember the trainride back, and thought to myself: this isn't right, I should make sure I'm not dreaming.
After trying to think back for a while though, I came to the conclusion that I must have gotten a different kind of train then when I went to the university (which I did dream about) and therefore, the trip had gone faster.
Although I still didn't completely trust my theory, I apparently decided to leave it at that, because I didn't get lucid and my dream simply continued.

So uh, I'm not sure what I'm trying to say, just wanted to vent my irritation I suppose... Why couldn't I just have done a reality check at that point :mad:

hey dont feel bad. i inturpert my dreams and i said in my dream"ill have to intrupurt this in the morning" and still dint relize that i was dreaming.wow..... im stupid! :D

I know what you mean - I had a dream I was riding a motorcycle across the ocean with Vanilla Ice - and I didn't question it at all. True, he was kidnapping me, but you'd still think I would've done a reality check at that point. :wink:

One time I dreamed about dreaming. I dreamed that I was about to go to sleep, and I was very excited about lucidity.

The DSs? My brother was planning to have a dream with me that wouldn't fail, and it was the middle of the day.

You win some, you lose some - I guess that's the way it goes with LDing. The trick is to not get discouraged and keep practicing.

True enough. We shouldn't lose our patience. That probably wouldn't get anywhere.

You think that's bad? I've actually thought i was dreaming once, done two reality checks that clearly indicated i was dreaming (hazy black computer screen, and bending a wall) and i ended up thinking i was wide awake after all. Crazy!

I think it's probably normal for obvious signs of dreaming to be missed at times. I've had quite a few lucid dreams by now, and I've noticed that even when I'm lucid my judgment is still rather funky. I'm becoming more successful at recognizing I'm dreaming, but I still occasionally have dreams where I'll have a thought that appears to suggest I'm lucid, but when I wake up I know that I didn't truly recognize that I was dreaming. But often, I will notice that strange thought during the dream and actuallly become lucid because of it.

I don't worry about near-but-not-quite-lucid dreams, though; I find them interesting and entertaining. Since I started practicing a few months ago, my lucid dream frequency has increased to the point where it's easier not to be upset over lost opportunities,

Yeah I've noticed that too, sometimes I think that for me, the more random dream elements my lucid dream has the less coherent I act. But when there's more under my control I'm more under control. I want to try exercising that, clearing out the dream environment when I become lucid and practicing control.

A recent missed opportunity I had: I was doing MILD that night, and in a dream I was looking at my dream journal, it had several short 2-3 sentence entries that made it look like I'd actually woken up several times to write down my dreams. Strange thing was I could read them fine, the sentences were coherent, or at least I remember reading coherently, whether or not they actually were is a different story. But I racked my brains trying to remember the dreams that were described, I spent a good amount of dream time thinking. And then I gave up. Chalked it all up to dreams being slippery things to remember. When I actually woke up, I thought about it, grabbed my DJ praying that I really had written them and I hadn't missed some easy opportunity to lucid, but nope, not a sign of the fake dreams. Sometimes you just want to kick your dreamself. They're so oblivious.:shakehead2:
