This is a problem that's prevented me from trying to get methods like FILD and WILD to work properly.
When I wake up and try to go back to sleep, I'm unable to resist moving. Maybe to scratch an itchy spot, or readjust my position, I try to ignore the urge, but I eventually cave in. This happens several times until I eventually lose consciousness and fall asleep normally.
Any advice for avoiding movement while trying to go to sleep?

It's not highly nececairy to not at all move I believe. LaBerge has said so. I think it is because as you wake up you will still be experiencing Sleep Paralysis. And when you move this Sleep paralysis is suddenly gone. However from my experience it's okay to move a little, or even read or sit up in bed for a while. If you still feel sleepdrunk you should be well able to relax into a comfortable position and go back into complete Sleep Paralysis in no time. Maybe no more than 10 minutes if you're tired enough.
I seem to need spending more time awake since my problem is falling back asleep and loosing consciousness too fast again when I only briefly awake.

Yeah I know what you mean. I tend to itch sometimes when I'm lying still. Try to tolerate it if you can, but if it's too much then go ahead and scratch it and continue.
As far as readjusting yourself, I suggest finding a comfortable position and using that same position each time you sleep.
