Hypnopompic Sleep Paralysis - whilst falling to sleep?

Okay last night I managed to WILD when going straight to sleep! Never been able to do this before and never really heard too many people saying they can do it either...

Basically as you know hypnopompic sleep paralysis is the SP you experience in the mornings when you wake up before your body does, as oposed to hypnagogic sleep paralysis which is the SP you experience when you fall to sleep.

So last night I was in bed, and decided for fun I would try to WILD - even though usually you need to WBTB before you can. And I started to feel the shifting sensations as I do when I WILD and all of a sudden I found myself in sleep paralysis, like hypnopompic sleep paralysis, the type you get when you awaken, it was really weird and never happened like this before...

Has anyone else experienced this before, or know why it happened like this? Also has anyone managed to WILD when going straight to bed? I have never even tried it, since usually you need to be in REM sleep to have a decent LD. I am going to be trying this again tonight, it was really easy and I think it took little over 5 minutes from deciding to try to actually reaching SP then then onto a lucid dream :)

Anyway thought I would share and get your thoughts on this? I might write up a kind of mini technique if anyone else is interested in trying this, seemed to work really well...

Yes, this was in fact how I first learned to LD. It tooks months though. I had no books, friends, internet or any help whatsoever. I am glad to finally hear of someone who can do this as well ;)

To answer your first question would require a bunch of details on your exhaustion level, whether or not you drank the previous night, and other things that may have affected your REM intensity. You may just have a natural talent, in which case I would ask: do you find WBTB to be as easy as I do? Or about the same?

I find that WILDing at the start of the night takes the most meditation, but that after four hours of sleep it is second nature.

As far as the way you did it I am in the dark....that is the state I usually project in my room from; the "OBE" type of experience, and it only happens after an LD in my case; the hypnopompic state as you describe.

It is hard to WILD as one is going to sleep for the night but it isn't impossible. If I'm exhausted enough I can slip right into a lucid dream when I lay down for core sleep. I don't get the SP though, just slip right into a lucid dream. It's very rare that I have done this and I noticed it only happens when I'm dog tired, I lay down and zip right into a lucid dream.

I was not exhausted but I was pretty tired. I didn't drink the night before either - it was just a pretty normal nights sleep. I find WBTB to be very easy to be honest, although don't bother with it too much as i like my sleep too much!

I think it is mainly down to me being tired, I was more tired than normal, so maybe that had something to do with it...

I think I will try again soon to see if I can do it again, maybe when I am not so tired :)
