When we are forced to hold our breath, or unable to breathe, it alters the way our minds and bodies work.
Swimmers train themselves to hold their breaths for insanely long times while performing intense physical activity. This is similar to runners training at high altitude. Your body becomes more efficient with its oxygen use. Then when you receive oxygen normally, you are able to super perform.
Does anybody have any literature on this? I just found out about it a couple months ago, and would like to learn more. Maybe start a swimming fitness program.
