The Sims and Dreaming

I reformatted my computer and went through all the trouble of backing everything up and getting my drivers to work just so I can install The Sims2. I had a dream last night that I and a group of people were were trying to escape from some people chasing us, and we were in these tunnels. Everything suddenly switched into The Sims mode and I was laying down tiles, walls, windows, staircases, and lights to build us an escape route. Except for not being able to toggle between floors (I could, but I couldn't tell which level I was on and there were about 6 levels), it worked just like the sims. I never became lucid, but when I woke up I immediately thought about this forum :tongue:

One thing to note is that the lights and windows added light perfectly, just as in the game. So I guess while you are lucid, you may be able to try placing light fixtures or windows on the wall if you can't get the room to lighten up!! I've heard a lot about lights not working in lucid dreams, but these ones didn't even require turning on. I just placed them on the wall and the place was bright.

I think something called Schizophrenia is a reqirement for that one ;)

I would think that the detached and 2-D nature of video (even interactive videogames like Sims) would make the dreams more 'distant' and less enriching, if it had any effect at all on them. Just a thought.

How was the realism of the items in your dream when this kicked in? Was it very natural as in real life, or did it seem more like it you were playing Sims? That might be an interesting way to condition yourself. But if it's like playing Sims, I'd rather spend my dream time on other things :)

I remember that at that point, I'd been under the impression that I had paused the entire world and was modifying it quickly so we could make our escape. I wasn't lucid, so I thought that when I unpaused, the world would keep going. It was literally just like playing the sims, with menu bars and everything, although the people and objects all looked real.

But imagine if I'd become lucid (:doh: i have no idea how I didn't), and "unpaused" the game but kept putting objects on the walls. I mean if you are lucid, and it's too much like the game, you can always change it to be like RL.

Ah, ok! The reason why I asked is there have been two occasions where I've had a dream about something I saw on TV. The experience I had in that dreamscape was more like watching a movie than actually being there experiencing it. It was kind of disappointing in that respect. Yeah I could've done one of those affirmations like "Clarity now!" but I was so caught up in it the same way I do IRL when watching a really interesting tv/movie. It's not as fulfilling to me as a dream where I'm fully immersed rather than just a spectator with input.

Note: I'm not talking about the issue of 'level of control' but the manner which I'm experiencing. It's more of a spectator vs. participant issue here.

Right, right. In that case, though... maybe you could just "pause" the dream, edit your surroundings, and then "unpause" to keep the lucid dream going. In fact, that may make it easier to try to summon things haha. Maybe. :tongue:

No its not..

You mean to tell me that most of your dreams are about realistic things like eating breakfast, going to school and taking showers?

Personally, 90% of my dreams are about completely crazy things that would almost never happen in real life.

I've had too many video game dreams. In most of them, I'm in some kind of FPS that's a mix of all the first person shooters I've ever played, only the enemies won't die no matter how many times they get shot. I had a sim city dream once where I had to explain to someone why I had to put pipes in underground. And I hear spore comes out September 7th! That game looks so awesome. I wish my graphics card wouldn't overheat all the time, I can't run any games anymore. Also, the best way to have video game dreams is to just play too many video games all the time. I haven't played them in a while, and I have since stopped having video game dreams.
