      The Sims and Dreaming

No tutorial good for definate lucidity or even a help to dreams, but I need to ask: Knowing The Sims is a good life simulator and is actually pretty fun and full of humour, would it be any good for Lucid Dreaming or atleast Dreaming?

In what way are you thinking of? There are probably many ways you could use the game to help gain lucidity (or maybe there are none, who knows). So maybe make it a little clearer of what you're thinking of.

Well, it's a life simulator isn't it? I just thinking, maybe someone could make advantage of that.

I don't see what you're getting at. At all.

Television is another "life simulator and is actually pretty fun and full of humour," do you suppose it enhances dreams as well?

You can't make people do things on the TV can you?

So you're saying that because you can control the characters in The Sims....... what? How would that affect your dreams in any way? Furthermore, how does that set The Sims apart from any video game?

If you play alot of a game, and really like the game, you might dream about it.
So RC when you see green, hovering crystals? Or everytime someone puts their plate on the floor to do something else...

Grr! I mean, it is more like real life than any other game! What other game lets you make your own character, dress your own character, control the full actions of your own character, control the life of your own character, control who your character likes, all in the same game?

I don't mean in reality checks or anything like that. Like for example, someone could play it on their computer whilst putting subliminal messages on saying "This will happen in your dream tonight" or something similir. If you did that on Halo or something your dream would be extremely unrealistic due to things that don't happen in real life. I'm not saying that this actually works, I'm guessing, but do you see where I'm coming from?

To say this basically, The Sims is a decently life like game and can possibly be dreamt of. I know this is unlikely but it's possibly the most likely game to be dreamt of due to it's realness.

Also, to add, there's a cheat for original Sims game for the PS2 which lets you go into first person view and literally see what your selected character can see.

Also, DuB, why so defensive? It's only an idea!

I apologize if I came off as hostile. I hope you don't interpret my remarks as a personal attack - although you should by all means consider them as challenges to your idea. It's not an argument, but an impersonal debate.

I think I have a little better of an idea of what you're getting at, although I still see some significant problems with it.

How about real life? Why do we need a video game for these benefits you are proposing?

So are you asserting that people only dream about mundane things such as eating and socializing with people, and never about unrealistic scenarios such as those in Halo? You're dream journal must be really dry... .

Even if that were the case, wouldn't that essentially be the same concept as dream signs/reality checks, as Maeni pointed out? I.e., you find yourself in a scenario that resembles The Sims, you recognize it as a dream sign, do a reality check, etc. However, I still don't see how the game The Sims (or any video game) would fit in as a necessary part of the equation.

No I mean, it's more easy to dream up real life things than unreal things. As we never do unreal things in real life.

And no my Dream Journal isn't how you described.

      Indeed

I see what you're saying, Jdeadevil, but it would actually work with any video game really well, and I don't think Sims would be more effective than any other game. When I was into Age of Empires I had a lot of vivid, Age of Empires related dreams.

...if I knew about dreamsigns then...

To be honest, I don't ever remember having a dream about a specific game. Just probably going into a game menu in general.

some of my video gaming dreams are in first person, while some i feel that i am actually playing a game. it is like weird lucidity. instead of being aware i am dreaming, i am aware i am playing a video game but i cannot see anything else but the game. i have a lot of these dreams...maybe i should get a life.

Try focusing on just one game for awhile. Play it nearly every day.

usually when i have dreams involving video games it goes something like this

enemies are attacking me... i click on an enemy to attack it...i attack air...i click on a different enemy...i attack the first one...i die...i randomly teleport back to the enemies...they begin attacking me...etc.

worst part is, i forget all about the first time when the second time begins...

I've dreamed about all kinds of games, even about tetris, the most unreal game ever :p play tetris the WHOLE day, and when you close your eyes, you will see tetris blocks everywhere!

If you want to dream about games, just keep playing it nonstop the whole day long ^^

Well, I absolutely see where you are coming from. When you play the sims, you play god. You get to build houses, control people and animals, move objects around where ever you want them (especially if you use cheats). There's a certain... I dunno. feel to it that you are in control of absolutely everything. Even time. Maybe you could utilize this, to get yourself into the mindframe of being able to control everything. It may definitely help with your confidence during dream control. And now that I think about it, I may have had my first LD during one of my "I'm-addicted-to-The-Sims" stages haha

Hmm imagine, playing Sim City could get you used to building your own cities in a dream, or those amusement park games could help you get into the mind set of being able to build the ultimate amusement park! I think it could probably be very beneficial to dream control, especially because of the incredibly active nature of playing this game, versus passively watching tv or only controlling one character in a game.

I had a dream I was a spartan in Halo once, it was incredibly realistic and flood were hauling ass towards me. Glad I woke up from that one! That's my only video-game dream though

I don't think you have to use subliminal messages. I had a dream about Grand Theft Auto, and later in the same dream about Oblivion.

But why would you use Sims th- Oh, I'm SO going to have lucid dreams about Spore when it comes out!
