My WILD Adventure!

For The Viewers: This thread is more or less for my own benefit. If any of you gain something from this, then great! Please feel free to comment or suggest anything you like and thankyou for your interest. :)


Aim: The aim of this thread is to keep track of all my experiences while attempting to achieve lucidity through the WILD technieque.
NOTE: This is NOT a dream journal and will not contain any dreams!

Hypothesis: I think that I will be able to do this within 2 weeks max. I am confident that I will be able to figure it out pretty quickly. Hopefully I'm right. :?

SUNDAY / MAY 1 / 10:00 PM.

About 10 minutes in, my body began feeling heavy and very relaxed, I started seeing colourful flashes in front of my eyes but no exact clear imagery. After about another 10 minutes I started feeling odd movement. Like my bed was spinning off to the right continuously. Occasionally I felt like I was partially submerged in water and every time I breathed in, I floated up to the surface.

I struggled to relax a little more after I felt odd feelings around my body like throbbing pulses that were kind of uncomfortable. I guessed that I was beginning the very first stages of sleep paralysis and it got my heart beating quite fast. I couldn't relax after this point and I found myself needing to swallow too regularly which was quite distracting. When I felt I was failing I opened my eyes again and moved myself to my normal sleeping position on my side and fell asleep normally.

I get that same problem. I get really close to sleep paralysis, and make it through the first few stages, but once I get close to the point of auditory hallucinations, my heartbeat goes nuts even though I'm not scared of SP anymore. I try to relax but I fail and then I get really frustrated.

I had a similar experience last night, minus some parts. When I saw the swirling colors, I felt some sort of falling sensation and my heart started beating really fast. I attempted to stay with it but lost consciousness soon after. The increased pulse probably caused me to lose the relaxed state of mind. Hopefully as I gain more experience this will cease.

What you just described happens to me pretty much every night. :(

MONDAY / MAY 2 / 11:00

Similar to my first experience but a bit slower in terms of progression. It took me about half an hour to relax properly. I tried visualizing dream scenarios but found that I was too aggravated by itches and swallowing. It never occurred to me how much I needed to swallow before falling asleep.

On a lighter note, it was rather funny to see as my body begun fully relaxing my mouth kinda popped open as my jaw muscles relaxed. It made a funny noise as my lips separated and I assume it would have looked quite silly too. I didn't get the same sort of pulsing sensation I felt the night before and I was quite disappointed. However, still at the early stages it's not off putting to get these results.

I get the whole heart racing thing everytime I get vibrations. Mine are more like a shudder all over my body but I know what it means and I'm not scared of SP or anything (never done it but sounds so fun :D) and I can feel my heart beating and hear the blood rushing in my ears. Also I get the swallowing problem constantly but I try to keep it to a minimum. Jaw muscles relaxing? Yes, and it gets me so annoyed because I can feel my mouth opening and I'm not sure if I wanna close it or not. Then if I do close it, it wants to open :S. If I sleep open mouthed my throat is terribly dry and raw the next morning too :(.

Very similar to what I experience though, interesting to see what else happens,

TUESDAY / MAY 3 / 12:30

Like the first two attempts, about 15 - 20 minutes in, I became extremely relaxed, my body begun to lose it's sensitivity and I got a little flustered. I hope to become more used to this experience over time but until then, it is a little weird for me. I have discovered some really relaxing music to play to help me get to sleep. My problem seams to be, at this point, that I am unable to actually fall asleep, no matter how late at night it is. I will try experimenting with waking up at different times in the morning and going back to sleep to try and find the perfect time for me to practice WILDing.

Maybe some warm milk will do the trick. :P

If you've lost sensitivity in your body, you may already be asleep? Just a thought.

Hmmm....maybe. But it doesn't feel like it. It's hard to tell really. I feel like I could move if I wanted to. I'm thinking it'll be clear when I am asleep. I'm so enthusiastic about this though! Can't wait to try again. It's just a matter of time before I finally get this! Wish me luck! :)

Didn't have time to write the last one so I'll fill them both in here.

WEDNESDAY / MAY / 12:00

Horrible. Didn't even come close to any sort of SP or any feeling similar to that. I don't usually sleep on my back. I think it may take a few weeks to just get used to sleeping on my back. I think I may have underestimated how difficult WILDing is to do. I'd have to say my first attempt was the most successful, maybe due to the fact that it was my first go and I had no expectations. I get frustrated easily when I can't relax and that makes it even harder. Definitely will take a while but I'm still confident that I will be able to do this.

THURSDAY / MAY / 10:30

I drank some warm milk before going to bed (I know how lame that sounds) It helps somewhat but leaves that milky aftertaste. Once I became more relaxed, I felt more like I was falling asleep than staying awake but this didn't bother me too much. I was just relaxing with my music and not trying too hard. Definitely a better approach in my opinion. Trying too hard just keeps you awake!

This is where it got crazy though. I sensed tingling feelings in my body. Like the core of my body was rumbling. But that's not the end. I was visualizing without actually knowing it! I felt like I was there for a moment and not in my bed anymore. In my visualization I was sitting on the floor in my lounge room looking underneath the couch when a rat came running out right at me! I jumped and was suddenly back in my bed. When I jumped in the visualization, I jumped in my bed. It was a very weird experience. Though similar things have happened to me before. Like the feeling of falling onto my bed. Or tripping over. But this one had more of a vivid visualization.

So, what does this mean? I'm thinking this was me falling into a half dream state but still having control over my body. Dreaming in a sense without the SP. This was a half good half bad experience. Good in the sense that I became relaxed enough to visualize and bad in the sense that I ruined it by becoming startled. Still, it's a step forward.

Keep reading for more posts, I'll try to keep them as regular as possible. I WILL DO THIS! JUST A MATTER OF TIME!!! COME ON WILD!!! WOO!!!

Hey well done, that sounds like quite an achievement there. Your point about trying too hard stuck me when I read it as odd but true. I think that I may need to try less as simple as that sounds.

FRIDAY / MAY 6 / 12:00 PM

Perhaps one of my longest attempts. Trying for a bit over an hour. I kept breaking the flow and adjusting my body. It was hot and I had to keep deciding weather to have my sheets on or off. If you're Australian, you may know what I mean. It's Winter at the moment and this country sometimes is a bit weird with it's temperatures to say the least.

On the last attempt at about 1:00 AM, I began to feel slight jerks on my body. I had got this in previous attempt a few nights earlier but these ones came more frequently and with more force. It was a little off-putting but I tried to keep relaxed. No luck getting to full SP as always but still had the numb kind of feeling after a while.

SATURDAY / MAY 7 / 12:00 PM.

Didn't want to think about having a WILD on that night but as per usual I wanted to have a Lucid Dream. Had a big day tomorrow and just wanted to sleep, but I did try laying on my back to sleep. It's alot easier to visualise when I'm not thinking about staying conscious. In my earlier attempts I failed to be able to visualize scenarios. I think there are certain things you should keep your mind on if you want to successfully have a WILD and there are also things you should try and keep your mind OFF.

SUNDAY / MAY 8 / 3:00 PM.

This was intended as a nap because I wanted to rest after my long day. This actually turned out to be quite an experience! I was tired and I think I dozed off slightly while lying there. Here's the experience. I think I was dreaming but only very slightly. In the dreamy thingy I was having, it was dark like night time. Usually dreams aren't like that right? Anyways I realized I was waking up into my bed because I started feeling the sensation of my pillow under my head and my arms by my side. While I was still seeing slight indistinguishable imagery.

But I was still in control of myself in the imagery so I tried jumping and trying to keep in the world and I began waking up while doing this. I felt a really warm transition between this half dream and waking up and it felt weird, like my arms and legs were half way between what I was doing in my dream and what I was doing in my bed. It felt like my left leg was rising up through my mattress and settling in where it was suppose to be. Although, this experience was clearly in my mind at the time, it is hard to remember vividly now. This is the strange thing. When I woke up and looked at my watch, only 5 minutes had gone by!!!

Was this a reverse WILD or something? Very weird experience because I think the dream wasn't properly formed. like it was half my imagination combined with sleep paralysis. But it was only 5 minutes!! I was really tired. Is this possible to do in such a short time? This felt like the closest thing I'd gotten to a WILD. Very weird.

Sunday, May 08...

Got back from the day and was really tired but I decided to research a bit on LD, went through pages and pages of info and tried to learn as much as possible. After about 2 hours of this I decided to have a nap as I could barley keep my eyes open. So I lay in bed, on my back, and just lay their visualizing. I found it very hard at first to conjure up a clear image, everything I tried to imagine would be fuzy like a broken T .V., also kept having little spazms almost where my legs would jerk making it hard to think clearly. After I while I stopped thinking abouit it so hard and I began to see really clear images, it was really amazing. Before long I had fallen asleep and when I awoke I completly forgot to record what I dreamt.

That night I went to bed and lay there and tried to visualize stuff to get me going. I had only one dream that I recorded...

First I was swiming at night, it was stormy and I could see land not far off but I was looking for something when suddenly I began to fight this giant sea snake. After killing it I swam ashore and realized I was late for something, so I ran along this road until I came to an ancient city... It was slowly becoming day and I stood before this slender building that would of been three stories tall and one room wide. I went inside to find a white room with only a large wooden bed in it.

The end...

Monday, May 09...

I've been thinking about LD's all day and how to trigger one from a normal dream u need to realize ur dreaming. The first step they say to doing so is to tell urself that's not possible by doing a reality cheack or something else.

I've wondered how do u stop and tell urself ur dreaming...? I guess if I just become used to finding dream signs it will be easier.

Anyway tonight I'm going to try the WBTB technique, done by waking 6 hours into sleep, staying up for a half an hour before going back to sleep. This is supose to wake U during REM sleep and hopefully induce a LD when u return to bed again.

MONDAY / MAY 9 / 11:30 PM.

This was really crazy. My first time with experiencing audio imagery whilst maintaining consciousness. I had became relaxed pretty quickly and had began introducing the VILD technique. I kept trying to visualise a scene over and over again. I felt my body having slow waves of vibrations that indicated the first steps of SP which was very exciting but I tried to keep visualizing as best as I could. The visuals weren't clear but I could picture certain things, as I opened the gate in my scene, I heard it scrape along the cement.

Haha, I opened my eyes straight away. This was a little unexpected to say the least. My heart rate picked up and I looked around the room. The audio was so set in my mind, I was sure I heard it. But it must of been in my head. Freaky.

I'm starting to become a little reluctant to keep up with this. I'm experiencing some very weird stuff and it's a little off putting. I'm hearing noises and I'm feeling weird feelings in my body and seeing things that I don't have much control over. Every one of these things happens suddenly and without warning so it makes me feel a little uneasy every night not knowing what might happen.

I remember around my third attempt at WILDing, I was about thirty minutes or more in when I started hearing, for lack of a better term, "ghostly" sounds. I was pretty deep in and couldn't get up, it scared the bajeezus out of me, mainly because I could still "feel" the presence of the real world, which made it seem even more real. Long story short, I went on a year long hiatus and ended up regretting it. Keep pushing on and you'll get passed this hill eventually.

Sounds like your really progressing well, and the more vivid the sound is the better off you are I would imagine. Just gotta remember that your asleep and that its not real, unless of cause you have a gate that could scrap along cement near your window or something, cause then you've got a right to be freaked out.

TUESDAY / MAY 11 / 12:30 AM.

At first I intended to have a WILD but couldn't concentrate on keeping my consciousness. For the first time I had actually become too relaxed and fell asleep. I woke up a few hours into the night and kicked myself for falling asleep, hahaha.

Tonight feels like the night to get it right! :boogie: I can feel it! I'm so excited!!

Dream Incubation

Though not strictly limited to WBTB, dream incubation's power to induce lucid dreams increases many fold when combined with it. Dream incubation is the act of pre-creating a dream scenario or scene before actually entering the dreamstate (ie. creating the scene or scenario while in waking life, then having said scene or scenario come up in a later dream). To induce a lucid dream using this method the incubator must either fashion a scenario wherein a dream character informs them of the fact that they are in a dream, or create a dreamscene where they will see something that will remind them of their dreaming state (a "dreamsign").

Cal I was thinking we should make a small film for the both of us using this method... If we could film me in a dream scenario walking down the street and meeting u saying " Your dreaming Sean." That could work...If I just watch that like ten times a day for a month or two it would eventually be burnt into my brain and I wouldn't even have to watch it to remember it. We could do a dream scenario for u to if u wanted to... Tell me what u think but it could have potential...

I tried to burn a scenario into my head with no luck.
I over and over pictured this scene and touched the walls and fence and made it so real.
Funny thing was I never saw the scenario or scene but had a false awakening and lucid dream thereafter!!
Go figure.

Sorry readers! I went on a little holiday break with my family. Time to begin my WILD Adventure again!

WEDNESDAY / MAY 24 / 11:00 PM.

Counting my breathes to 100 and back down to 0 again seams to keep my mind off my body's sensations. I read a thread not long ago explaining a few tips on how to stay focused and not think about the weird feelings your body receives whilst in SP. My body begins to feel heavy and buzzes softly when I am fully relaxed. This night I felt more in control of my mind and I was so ready to succeed but the length of time was taking it's toll and as I hit the hour mark I began to lose sight of any success and rolled over in defeat.

There is only so much time you can put into your attempts. You come to the stage where you are too tired and too frustrated to carry on. It's probably best to take it on the chin and try again the next night.

WEDNESDAY / JULY 1 / 11:30 PM.

I was tired on this night and felt like like just sleeping like I had been for the last week. (Bad boy!) But this was good. I could relax quite comfortably without thinking about too much. Mind was clear, body was relaxed and I was ready. As normal when you go to bed, imagery automatically plays without you taking much notice. I would recognise it every now and then and realise what was going on. I wasn't thinking too much about having a WILD, I was just relaxing. I began hearing little bits of people talking and flickers of different kinds of imagery and it was pretty cool.

The trick is to keep a small amount of awareness while all these things happen and not get too caught up in it that you fall asleep. This night I actually fell asleep but put up a good fight.

THURSDAY / JULY 2 / 10:30 PM.

Put on this CD I found lying around that just plays wave noices. It's quite good for relaxing and creating a beachy scenario in your head. As I lay, I tried to imagine myself jumping into the warm sand and messing about at the beach. I tried to imagine all the hot girls in bikinis with nice tans sunbaking all around me. I also counted my breathes in my head and imagined different scenarios to do with the beach like playing in the waves and digging holes and stuff. At the same time I could feel my body sinking into my bed. Like I was on the water floating in the waves and I couldn't stay afloat. When I should of gone with the sensation, I freaked out and did one of those weird flail things you do in bed when you think your falling or tripping. (You know the kind) Once I snap back to reality like that, theres pretty much no chance of me getting back to that state again. I just roll over and accept another defeat.

FRIDAY / JULY 3 / 12:00 PM.

CLOSEST ATTEMPT EVER! (MUST READ)

Got in bed and was already half asleep from watcing movies. I was thinking about lucid dreaming the whole day and actually watched 'Waking Life' before going to bed so I was looking forward to a good quality lucid dream. In terms of technique I didn't really do anything different so this took me by surprise when it came about not more than 10 minutes in. I Just kept thinking about different dream scenarios without paying too much attention to my body and out of the blue this light starts shining almost as if if from behind my head. The light comes around the right side of my head and enters my vision in the corner of my eye. I am still aware of where I am and what's going on. So straight infront of me is like black, and off to my right eye is like this glowing white light that is becoming brighter.

I'm getting excited but I try my best to stay calm and just go with the flow. The light starts covering more and more of my vision until it's almost half blotted out my vision to the usual blackness. I felt as if once the light had totaly consumed the black then I would see my dream. I felt as if as soon as this was over I would suceed. Slowly, instead of seeing black infront of my eyes, it was almost completely white and almost glary like sunlight. My heart started beating fast as I felt waves wash over my body. Soft but fast waves like they were coming from underneath me.

I could just feel it, you know? I knew while it was all happening that this was what it was supposed to be like. This is what going into a WILD was supposed to be like. The crazy strange thing was that I opened my eyes in the middle of it and scared the crap out of me. Like an involantary eye opening, kind of like the light was too glary or something. One of the coolest experiences is now also one of the most annoying experience. Nothing worse than tasting success and crashing and burning. But I knew I was there. I just need to not get freaked out. I need to embrase it. I know how weird I sound but it's soooo true. I need to remember that nothing can hurt me, I'm safe and everything is okay. I guess when you go through these weird feelings you start doubting your control over your own body. Honestly though, now that I've experienced the edge of it, I know it's only one little more push until I'm in.

It's an amazing experience. The warm light glowing and overtaking your vision is like a traffic light warning you that you are about to start dreaming. Anyways, thanks for reading.

TIP FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO TRY IT:

Make sure you shower before going to bed. Only because you tend to itch less after showering in my opinion. When you try to have a WILD, you don't want to have irritations going on. Shower, clean, get all the oil off you and get into some nice comfy PJ's and you'll find it more relaxing. My head gets itchy sometimes rubbing against my pillow so I need to wash my hair and stuff.

Don't think about your body in the bed, but instead your body in your mind. (That makes no sense does it?) What I mean is, don't think about your arms and your legs lying down, try to think about yourself in a scenario doing something. Running down the street to catch a bus, climbing a ladder to the roof, playing with your dog etc. The less you think about your 'physical' body, the better!

HAHA! Look at me, I havn't even beeen able to do it and I'm already giving tips. I'm a noob. Cathya later!
