plz help me understand binaural beats..

so i was looking around on youtube for some music/videos that use binaural beats. well.. i came across this particular youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/mountainmystic9

the following is stated on this page: "Source Vibrations is a multidimensional audio-visual project that utilizes numerology, sacred geometry, sonic vibrational healing, solfeggio harmonics, binaural beat frequencies and esoteric symbology to activate the subtleties of the awareness of the nature of being."

so essentially the creator of this page claims binaural beats are used in the making of these vidoes, however.. i thought binaural beats only consisted of sounds under 40 hz.. yet this page lists videos with names like 528 hz, 852 hz, etc.

i was wondering what some of your opinions are about this.. perhaps whoever makes these is using higher hz sounds as the original sounds which he mixes or plays together in order to produce the lower binaural beat hz sounds? (this is how i understand binaural beats are produced.. but i could very well be mistaken)

i really want to try meditating/relaxing/WBTB'ing while listening to some music that incorporates binaural beats, so i would really appreciate it if anyone has a good idea of whether the aforementioned videos are legit or not. if they are then it looks like i hit the jackpot by finding this page and hopefully have brightened some of your all's day by sharing it :D

edit: i would also like it if any of you wouldn't mind sharing some of your finds similar to this one.. i.e. any sites or places to download music with binaural beats. i'd be greatly appreciative!

Binaural beats are low frequencies such as what you mentioned. I'll try my best to explain how they work. It's been a little while since I learned, but I can get the gist across. :)

Basically, they play two sounds, both different frequencies, so for example, we'll say 600 and 615. Each sound will be played into a different ear ( I think it matters which ear receives which sound, but can't remember for sure). Then the brain will hear both those sounds, but combined, you will hear the difference. So if the frequencies we mentioned above are used, you will hear an "imbalance" of two sounds. Kind of like a vibrato effect. It is the difference of the above frequencies, so in my example case it would be 15. But one of the sounds, the low, isn't actually real. Your brain creates it because of what it's hearing. The one your brain creates is the binaural beat, the low frequency that they claim to have. :) Binaural beats are supposedly effective at lowering your states of consciousness.

So hopefully I helped clear that up just a little bit. There's more science-y stuff to it, but that is the basics of it.

Not a good read if you know nothing about them. A little steep but with the above explanation this site explains in very good detail all about binaural beats. I recommend reading the whole page. Fascination stuff.

I only recently tried them with headphones and it was some pretty crazy stuff. Very powerful if you're receptive.

ok i suppose my thread title is a bit misleading..

i actually somewhat understand binaural beats.. however my curiosity is directed more towards the youtube site that i provided a link to in my original post. i was just wanting other people's opinions on whether or not this site offers legitimate binaural beat music.

the description, which i also quoted in my original post, shows where said youtube site makes the claim that they indeed use binaural beats in their music, however they have posted music videos with such titles as 528 hz and 852 hz.. which would lead one to believe that if a song is entitled "528 hz" then that is the frequency at which the song is set to. BUT that frequency does not fall within the binaural beat frequency range.

so i was just wondering if there's something i'm missing or am i right in assuming that the youtube page is mistaken?

Your question was answered. Two higher frequency sine waves are played and difference between the two sine waves is perceived by your brain. Example... 400Hz in one ear and 430Hz in another is perceived as 30Hz. Otherwise you couldn't listen to binaural beats with headphones at all since no headphones can produce such low frequencies.
