I know this question is asked alot around the forum. So I decided to have an official thread dedicated to users telling how long it took before they first attained lucidity in a dream, so that new users of Dreamviews can look at the variety of time required before becoming lucid.
I'll start, my first lucid was the night of November 13th, it took me roughly a month since I began trying to become lucid.
Took me about 2 weeks from learning what lucid dreaming was to having my first full lucid with control.
2 months since first reading dreamviews. I wasn't very good about journaling, but now I am. JOURNAL. AND REALITY CHECK. RIGHT NOW.
It took me months to have my first ld and although i do RC's in waking hours i never became lucid as a result of of one.
It always just kinda hits me that im dreaming and i take it from there,often just to wake from the xcitement but afew times they lasted sooo long and i wish i could have them more often
Two months, then I got my first one last Wednesday after a WBTB.
I attained lucidity the second night I began trying. Three times that night, I became lucid, but woke up immediately from the excitement each time. About a week later I Had another LD in which I didn't wake up right away.
I'm still new at this and so far they haven't been very long, but in each dream I've gotten progressively better and remaining calm and gaining control. I haven't had enough of them to give an accurate average of how often they occur, however.
That being said, I've been an extremely vivid dreamer all of my life with naturally excellent dream recall and a habit of keeping a dream journal. I consider all these things integral to the immediate success I've had with lucid dreaming.
That sounds a lot like me. I practiced and practiced questioning reality and doing RC's during the day but I could never seem to have a lucid as a result. It was so frustrating and I tried for so long (I didn't have a lucid for about 4 months probably). Right as I was about to give up on trying to have a lucid I FINALLY got one, and I didn't even try. I wasn't thinking about having a lucid that night, and I didn't do any RC's. I just came to me. All the sudden I was aware I was dreaming. And it was an incredible and very vivid first lucid. I did a dream spin immediately because I could feel myself getting excited and I didn't want to wake up. It was a very long lucid and I was quite proud of myself.Quote:

I had a dream last week that right as it ended I became lucid. My dream froze, I then knew I was dreaming and my dream faded. I don't count it though since it was pretty much the moment my dream ended. Been 2wks and haven't had anything yet
I keep a DJ and skim it now and then. Mostly to laugh (especially at the one where I have "Guy giving out free LD's, lol). I do RC's now and then, but really don't care about them. I'm afraid I'll just RC in a dream and keep going, so I don't care to do them anymore. I only really do them if I think about dreaming, so something feels like it could be a dream(a few times a day if that). I'll find something that works

mine was pretty much the day after i read about this.
i had tried before but i didnt understand the instructions quite properly from other sites.
this is the best one, and i got a lucid dream after a day of reading this.

I think it was between a week and a month. I'm actually not sure because it was so long ago, but I do remember that I wasn't very successful. I hadn't heard of lucid dreaming at all and knew nothing about it, it had just happened to me a couple of times and I tried to make it happen again.
Years later, when I did stumble across something on lucid dreaming online, and found out that it was something people had named and studied, it took me about two nights.

I guess it happened 9 years ago.
My first LD was around early June of last year or so.
about 3 weeks after joining DV.
Well, I first found out about lucid dreaming about a year ago, either before or after the mass shared dream. That's when I found this site. A few month or two later I found LD4all from this site. I was a lurker there for a while, and this last April or so I joined it, and forgot about Dreamviews. A month later, I started a dream journal. About two months ago, I rediscovered Dreamviews, and I joined it a month ago. Two days ago I put myself up for adoption and was adopted by Loaf. Finally, I had my first lucid dream, today.:banana::boogie::banana:
Id been having lucid dreams since i was a child but it was only about 1 every 2 months. Once i learned about lucid dreaming i started getting multiple lucid dreams a week
I have been in a dry spell recently but i am attempting to get out of it.
Around two months
Probably a week after attaining the knowledge, before that I had some but they would be every three or five months or longer.
Took about 3 weeks since joining this site for me to have one. I had a couple of close calls in there, though.
I've had lucid dreams in the past, ever since I was a teen, though.
It took me about a two months to actually have a successful DILD once I read about it. Ironically, I spent most of my time trying to WILD.
Interesting a few people are saying 3wks
Today I had a WILD after discovering all this 3wks ago ^_^
This doesn't apply to me. I had my first LD 3 years ago when I had no idea what they were!
well I think the topic at hand is how long it took you to make yourself have an LD. I had one when I was three that I still remember vividly to this day.
I don't quite remember the dates but I think it might have taken me about 3 weeks after immersing myself in EWOLD.
For those yet to achieve an LD, don't worry. Once you get that first one, the rest keep on flowing so long as you stay focused.

Okay I thought you meant those were the times they happened but I sure hope you mean what happened in them, otherwise you must be a Kryptonian.
It took me about a week since first reading about them and doing reality checks.
My first one was the best one ive had so far and had the most control. I didnt even do a reality check.. I tend to go lucid if im having a zombie dream.. I call it ZILD :) Zombie Induced Lucid Dream
I've been trying to for years. I think there have been times where my conscious mind takes control, but it doesn't realise it, but nothing I'd call a lucid.
January 27th will signify a year of attempts. I've gained snatches, tiny bits of lucidity since then, but no real lucid dream. I've only been attempting off and on.
Four or five days for my first DEILD. It took about a month for me to learn how to WILD.
About two days after finding this website.
Took me 20 days.
Hm... it's hard to judge. What's the line between lucidity and just realising you're in a dream? Some reckon there isn't one. I'll assume for now that there is a fine difference, lucidity also has a certain self-awareness that allows you to gain control over a dream. Realising you're in a dream but lacking that self-awareness can cause you to lose the realisation of dreaming quite rapidly, and can be compared to only half-waking up from sleep for a brief 3-10 seconds before rolling over and falling soundly back to sleep again.
My first real experience of lucidity was probably when I was about 7-years-old. I remember not only realising I was dreaming (which I had done plenty of times before) but actually becoming self-aware (which I had never done before). It was very confusing at first as I couldn't figure out how this could have happened, I thought something had gone terribly wrong.
I started wandering the streets of my dream world. I searched for a "way out" so I could wake back up again. I asked people on the street, who denied any of it was a dream. I was still adamant it was a dream, everything felt different from real life, movements were so fluid and crisp, there was no wind, no din of background noises rather you could select which you wanted to hear, the air felt denser but I also felt lighter. It felt many times more real than a non-lucid dream yet was somehow different too.
I knew where I wanted to be though, back in my bed, so I panicked and started getting hysterical which eventually woke me up.
I had my first lucid without realizing what they were... but after finding this site I had a whole bunch of lucids within about a week, then they kind of dropped off.
I dont get this, i could understand a week, or maybe even a month or two, but damn, years?! Im not trying to be mean but its not rocket science lol
Neither is understanding the complexities of the human life. Ever stopped to consider that maybe not everyone has the chance for uninterrupted sleep? That they have children that need attending to every hour of their life? Or that humans are just different?
Certain people sleep deep, certain people sleep light. There's also the fact that many of us are interested in furthering our actual lives, and that studying to get a worthy career takes priority over lying in bed for 30 minutes waiting for SP to set in.
My first lucid dream occurred ON the day that I learned about the phenomenon,
just prior to joining this site. I was so excited that I woke up just after taking
off for my first intentional flight. I still remember that dream... It was lovely.
Anyways, I couldn't help but be amazed that such a thing could be done. Lucid
dreams are easier for me to achieve when I recall my initial feelings on the topic.

I had one the night I found dreamviews. Three in one night, in fact. Would not count them as LDs though, because I became lucid during a nightmare and just woke myself up all three times. I became lucid in a good dream a week after reading about DV, but forgot to stabalise it and wrecked it in five seconds trying to hurry and do something..:roll:
I have tried to DEILD/WILD 15 times. EIGHT of the times I got into SP, but after sitting in SP for 15 seconds, I just kinda "snapped" out of it. The last three times I entered SP, I tried visualizing what I wanted and rolling over. Did not work. Can someone please help me with this!

I thought I'd never get one, it seemed like lucid dreaming was this crazy unattainable thing that most other people could do (on this forum anyway) but I couldn't :( Then finally I got one, so if anyone is feeling discouraged, just know that however long it takes you you will get there eventually. By the way I'm not saying expect it to take you as long as it took me because most people seem to have them within a month of hearing about them, I must just be a really slow learner.

Oh I do, lucid dreams are definitely worth the wait and I probably appreciate them more because of how long it took me to have one. It is kinda frustrating that a lot of people are like "oh I got lucid the night I read about it" though. Well it would be if I still couldn't LD.Quote:

I had my first lucid dream three months after learning about it. I never activily tried to gain lucidity though. The night I did, I think it was because I had done salvia that night. It truly got me into lucid dreaming rather than just dreaming.

For me it took a fair while... I think I had little snippets of LDs within the first few weeks, but for a good length LD it was probably some months...
Believe it or not, I had my first LD the very first day I learned what lding was (March 19th 2009). That same night! I wasn't even trying to have it. I guess I was lucky and just so excited about that I had one.
I even saw my doppleganger that night too.
i got mine on my first try i used MILD but i lost controll half way threw the dream...:damnit:
I had mine the night I read and knew about lucid dreaming. That was months ago. It was short though. I looked at my left hand and found that I only have four fingers, so I quickly thought to myself "This is lucid dream!". Then I pierced my ribs with my finger, and it penetrated through, then I looked at a clock and re-looked having the time change. After that, I already woke up. In other words, I did three reality check in that dream and then woke up. Then I lost interest to it. And just last week, I regained interest about lucid dreaming. I read even more info. about lucid dreaming and led me finding and joining this forum.
Although now that I am back, this time I am having a hard time having another lucid dream unlike months ago where I had lucid dream that very night I discovered lucid dreaming.
I got my first lucid on my first attempt and my second lucid on my 4th attempt
I had my first LD the the fifth day after trying to LD, having only RCd for 5 days and tried WILDing for 2 :)
As I have mentioned in another Thread, I have never had a Lucid Dream, but I will be trying to do so from here on. They sound like they could be very enlightening and could get me out of this artist block I am currently in. I will let you know when I have.
Took me a little under a month form finding out what it was, and 6 days after starting a DJ. Yes, i think the DJ helped
Had them before I knew what LD's were. Then I looked up "Controlling your Dreams" on Google, and it took a couple days to induce them willfully.
So far since I've been here my dream recall has increased a whole lot, and through that I've learned more about myself.
As a novice, I feel I am having "Lucid moments," where I'm aware of things, but the vividness is still a big issue in general.
But I've had a few small moments.
-The first one where it was somewhat vivid and I had control was about my first week into this site. I used many audio aids and did a WBTB on the weekend. While in my dream I said "Ok," pointed at a car, and threw it at someone. I don't recall the sound of the car, but I remember doing that very thing.
Lately I've been having bouts where not very vividly I can almost hear myself say "Hey! I'm dreaming," while in them. I've done some small tasks with those moments, but nothing yet, and I consider my recall ability to be the best progress and not so much my very small moments. It's something though. Definitely more than I expected. The tones are really helping I think. I think with some meditation, more experimentation, and mantras I can get the job done.
I was having the LDs before I even knew what they were.
