Interactions with your deep subconcious?

I've read about some interesting things while being lucid. Mainly from people who have been LDing for years however they were talking about being able to interact with what I'm assuming to be their subconcious. From doing this they claim you can possibly conquer things deep in your mind. The best example I can think of is if you maybe had a fear of public speaking, you could possibly interact deep with yourself to figure out why and eventually mend this "problem" or fear.

Also I heard of highly intelligent LDers being able to study (and some surgeons) practice things such as surgery in theirs.

I'm curious if any of the advanced LDers on here have any experience doing things like either of those? I'd imagine it takes gratuitous amounts of practice and control but think it may be possible. Thanks!

As far as the studying and practice thing goes, this takes place in normal dreams all the time. It is a standard part of how long term skills are learned. Normally people just don't remember the dreams. Personally I hate being lucid during this. You just do or say one thing over and over. I actually think being lucid during it kind of fouls the process I imagine a gifted dreamer will learn skills easily using this. The trick is to actually sleep. Say you study for a test and do not sleep before the test. That is no where near as effective as study then sleep then test. However, if I get lucid I hate those dreams and will always change them to something else.

I'm with Sivason on this in that practice dreams occur for me more in non-lucids than lucids, and I would likely change the dream if I was lucid. I do hoop dancing and constantly practice with my hula hoop in my dreams. These are always more fun than waking life, though, since gravity effects hula hoops different in my dreams.

Most interaction with yourself will still need to be interprated using your own waking mind afterwards. If you are highly concious in an LD and ask for the answer to something, the answer will often be just exactly what your concioud mind hoped or feared it would be, That kind of interaction is useless, as it is no more than normal dream control. Here is an example: Why do I fear such and such? You are highly aware and feel it is probably because of something your brother did. An image of your brother appears. This may mean very little, as you can just summon an image of what ever you expectyed to find.
Instead if you want interesting results you need to lighten up on awareness and control, you think about a question as you are goig to sleep in a mantra form (one example) You wander around in your lucid allowing complete randomness to occur and only during stabilizing repeat the question one time. Afterwards you can see what your subconciousness provided, sort of like interprating a vision.
My point is simply that the concious mind can not directly interact with the subconcious in a dream and not have some concious effect on the answer. Now, if instead the event that unfolds or the answer is cryptic or completely unexpected it is possably a valid interaction. Simply, if you get a plain straight forward answer you already expected it proves little.

If someone has a fear of public speaking I'd expect lucid dreams to offer a good opportunity to practice, but I wouldn't put off tackling this fear until you're good at LDing because, alternatively, you can tackle something like that in the here and now with CBT techniques.

I've went to post this twice and it didn't work, ugh have to type it all again ha. Anyways I agree siva. If I were to construct a situation, it would be setting myself up for an answer as opposed to stumbling across myself and having a normal conversation with the projection of myself as though I'm a stranger, I could learn more perhaps. And less control would be better. It does make sense though. And I agree Bobble! Thanks for the good responses! (btw I wrote 3 separate paragraphs in my last attempts but the dumb work computer deleted them both times! :( )
