I'm all for lucid dreaming, I believe it can be great fun and a way to explore yourself, new situations or scenarios. I have yet to achieve it (I accept this fact as my efforts aren't exactly as dedicated as they could be, given there is rarely a day where I can sleep in the next in order to wake up several times and write in a dream journal!) however I always take things like "astral projection" with a hefty pinch of salt.
I'd like to believe in it, the idea that using nothing but a disciplined human mind we can explore the wonders of this universe and countless others from the comfort of our own bedrooms, but then I'd like to believe in God to, a nice big bearded father figure in the sky ready and waiting with open arms to give me paradise when I die. I am, alas, a scientist at heart, and require significant proof to actually believe such things...:?
Lucid dreaming I can believe because I know dreams exist (hey, we've all had them!) and I know the conscious mind can be a powerful tool in altering scenarios within our own mind. It makes sense, its logical, and I have actually experienced it once before (by pure coincidence through no effort of my own) and thus lucid dreaming is real. The thing with astral projection...well, whereas in lucid dreaming I know I am dreaming, with projection of any kind, how do I know I'm not still dreaming? Sure I may be able to control my actions, but if anything that just puts into the realm of lucid dreaming as well?
