Wow - so I'm not alone... please read i'm a newbie

Hi I'm new here obviously LOL

Ever since I can remember I have shared dreams with people I am close to. At first it was my Mother, she would have the same dreams as me, usually we shared dreams when I had a bad nightmare. These dreams are identical in every aspect. When I got married, my husband had the same dreams as me and now years later it is my daugther who is 3 1/2 who is having the same dreams. She wakes up and tells me about her dreams and they are the same as mine.

Why does this happen, and why does it usually happen when I have a nightmare. I would dearly love to have this explained to me. I am a very vivid dreamer, remember ALL my dreams and my dreams are in this place that has a purplish hue to it and I generally fly in all my dreams close to the ground. I cannot explain why I know this but my dreams are not "here" or in this world if you know what I mean.

My husband is a non believer in anything out of the ordinary and even he is perplexed by having my dreams.

Any explanation would be wonderful.....

uhh do you guys sleep right next to each other when you sleep? I mean, when the shared dream inciden twould happen, were the 2 of you sleeping next to each other?

I've experienced a shared dream with my wife too - mostly from her end.

I have my own explanation of shared dreams, but I find it interesting that it happens largely in a nightmare for you
It may have a lot to do with the intense emotions you experience in such a dream?

Anyway, not to bore you but heres a attempted summary at my theories on the matter.
Genuine shared dreams essentially imply a form of telepathy. As such, having experienced a shared dream myself, I believe in telepathy.
Your mind&brain works as a collection of intertwined association of thoughts, feelings and beliefs of your past experiences.
This means that everyone may have a slightly different concept of what the colour red 'feels' like
One may feel it means violence and bloodshed, another may see it as love and romance.
What this all means then, is that shared dreams are easier to achieve with those that you know and understand intimately
You are then able to communicate and understand their feelings of the world, and understanding of it. When they thing 'red', you get the right effect. When they see a bloody corpse next to a stop sign, you understand why, and how. Your mind doesnt fight to turn it into a rose with a grave.
The more you understand the person, the more likely shared dreams can succeed.

That being said, shared dreaming is generally quite difficult to achieve, and is usually a random occurence.
My case was a little different, in that my wife actually 'intruded' on my dreams - intentionally. She woke up early in the night, and decided to WILD her way into my dreams. And suprisingly, it worked
I was completely blown away at the event

Anyway, thats my take, and story :)
Could you perhaps elaborate on any interesting shared dreams? Or small inconsistencies, or misunderstandings between the two sides of the story? (eg. I had one tiny discrepancy in ours)

Firstly sharing dream with my Mother years ago, we shared then while I was living at home and also when I moved out to my own place when I was a single lass LOL. With my husband, yes was sleeping next to him, with daugther she was in her own room. Maybe this happens with other people too and I dont know it because I havent discused it before.

To my recollection it has happened (that we have discussed) to all these 3 people about 27 times all up. That is a lot.

With my husband, one of them was very interesting in that we were in the same place, but he was behind this wall being attacked, in his dream of course he was viewing it from where he was, in mine it was behind a wall, but I knew he was there getting attacked by these 3 women who were throwing things that exploded at him. In his dream 3 women were attacking him and throwing sparkling dust that exploded on impact - very strange. All other aspect of that dream were identical. Other dreams we have have shared, have included an elf type girl that was leading us both through a crowd of strange people in a large hall that was all purple huish cast to it. My husband always knows when I transmit a dream to him, because most of his dreams that he remembers are normal "guy" type dreams, cars, real estate and normal world type stuff LOL.

My mother and I shared dreams that were very scary. And one of the ones with my daugther was about a houseboat on this purple river with fires on both sides. She woke up screaming and I ran to her (still recovering from this dream) and she says to me, Mummy we were on a boat on a purple river and there was a fire. So for this to happen with a 3 1/2 year old is extraordinary.

I would love to find out more about this - would be amazing.

That is a lot. And its a pleasure, for responding ;)
Most people have one or two shared dreams in their life, and thats about it. And obviously that gets used against them as an argument for coincidence.

It seems to me, that your experience goes WAY beyond any possibility of coincidence, and that makes you my new best friend :D
Sure, you're one in many, but consistently being able to share a dream says a lot to me

I'm planning on putting up a community website on DreamViews about unusual 'paranormal' subjects involving dreams
You will definitely be on it - if thats okay with you :)

Have you considered getting your family interested in lucid dreaming? And are you trying lucid dreaming at the moment?
Your purple dreams should be very easy to use as dream signs (as you mentioned on the other thread)
The one regret I have with my shared dream experience, is that it would have been amazing if we were both lucid
(My wife was lucid, but didnt try to get me lucid)

It would be great to be able to get to the bottom of it and learn from it, and you may be very helpful in that goal ...
Perhaps we could start to have some limited amount of control of it. My wife's experience seems to indicate that its possible

The thing is - I wonder how many I do actually transmit as I dont discuss my dreams every day with hubby or mum or daugther. Who know, it could be with dad too? I'll have to ask them more often or when I do actually have some unusual dreams (which is nearly all the time).

The one I had last night was definiately strange and i was controlling it. It was in a very strange world - people looked different than normal, more surreal I suppose. I was someone important but dont know who and I looked like I normally do but more etheral LOL - hard to explain.

Would be great to actually see an expert on this subject and discuss with them, I've wondered about it for sooooo long. Of course most people I tell dont believe me or dont seem very interested -oh well, I find it fascinating and glad you do to.

In the meantime, I found the thread I posted the day after it happened
After discussing it with her, I may have misunderstood one or two things eg. She didnt imagine a white room, but everything was white around her. Except the bricks behind me.
Its a pity she never wrote down her version at the time :?

I don't think its going to be a 'group'
More like a page on research about it, with perhaps a mini-forum (undecided)
Like an ongoing bunch of articles, information and research on things like this

Have you ever done any research on Shamanism? Most people know that shamans were great healers. But not only were they great healers in the traditional sense, they were also able to enter other's dreams to help heal those troubled "subconsciously". Often helping them to face and conquer fears. Just something to think about.

Since you are obviously the common link it only makes sense that you have a highly developed skill here. Have you ever experimented with other people? Is it only ever spontaneous or can you induce it a will? The nightmares may be a result of their subconscious/conscious fears or possibly yours. I think it's a good idea to try some dream interpretation as well. Try to take note of the symbolism involved. If it's something you truly desire to understand you should really consider experimenting with it from all angles. Try to do it at will consistenly. Try to gain lucidity during those dreams so that you can become more aware of what is taking place within the dream. Like how the other people react within the dream, their facial expressions, and a vivid recount of the dream in general will give you tremendous insight into this phenomena and how best to put your skill to use.

I know you could do without the nightmares, but once you find their source they won't bother you as much. You have a tremendous ability!

Thanks for that.... yes, someone once told me in a chat room about Shaman dreamers. I really should experiment more I know.

I had breakfast with the family yesterday and Mum and I had another shared dream on Saturday night - a nightmare too. We were in the car talking and I was telling everyone about my horrible dream on Saturday night, and Mum just turned around and went white and said "oh again". LOL -yes in exact detail they were the same until near the end of it when I tried changing the dream and managed to although it got a bit kooky LOL.

I should experiment more. I had another nightmare last night, but havent discussed it with anyone yet today. This was one dream I couldnt control last night, it wouldnt let me, although I knew I was dreaming - and today I'm feeling a bit drained of energy.

I might try surfing the web about shaman's - see what I can find out.
