That's what I wasn't sure about, thanks for clearing it up. It's a really good test, regardless!
If you want to diminish your chances at a lucky guess, you could print out two sets of the cards so there would be two circles, two stars, etc.. And on one of the duplicate cards, draw ANOTHER symbol that would differentiate the two sets.

I've been lazing around past two last nights :P
Two nights ago I totally forgot about AP, however, I've induced a lucid dream (MILD) and completed a Task of the Year (End of the World). Last night, I went to bed at 12 am due busy day and had to wake up today at 05:45 am :S I have a busy week.
By the way, I was looking for you and Nomad at the moon. I was eating a chocolate cake :P

Day 6
Well, last night was another night with a lot of negative energy. I once again set the test up just in case I felt up to trying it, but I didn't. I have noticed an odd pattern:
Day 3: I saw wavy lines, but the card was a circle.
Day 4: I selected a card but didn't try the AP, and the card was wavy lines.
Day 5: I saw a plus, but the card was a circle.
Day 6: I selected a card, failed to do the AP, and the card was a plus.
That's twice that I chose the wrong symbol after AP and then the symbol I chose came up the next day. Keeping in mind that all card selections are completely random, this seems like the possibility of an odd pattern... :?
--------------------------------------------
My stats for the nights when I checked the card during possible AP remain:
Raven Knight: 2/4, 50%, chance of this happening by chance is 14%
-
Cool thread!, I'll give it a try...
-
Day 7
Card I saw: Square, card selected: Square. SUCCESS :boogie:
----------------------------------
Raven Knight: 3/5, 60%, chance of this happening by chance is 8%.
-
Awesome job Raven!
I finally printed the cards, so I will finally get started tonight :D
-
This seems to be happening on a way too regular basis... negative energy problems... And negative energy is something I am sure will interfere with my attempts. So I didn't do the AP again tonight. :sad2:
-----------------------------------------
Raven Knight: 3/5, 60%, chance of this happening by chance is 8%.
-
Day 8
Card seen: Star, Card selected: Circle - FAIL
----------------------------------
Raven Knight: 3/6, 50%, 16% chance of this happening by chance.
Note: I found a flaw in my odds calculations, but I think it has been corrected now. :shadewink:
-
Day 9
Card I saw: Star, Card selected: Star - SUCCESS :boogie:
----------------------------------------
Raven Knight: 4/7, 57%, 11% chance of this happening by chance.
-
Day 10
Card I saw: Box, Card selected: Box - SUCCESS! :boogie:
---------------------------------------------
Raven Knight: 5/8, 63%, 7% chance of this happening by chance.
Note: This is actually from night before last, I ran out of time last night for posting.

Day ???
Ok, I realize I have kind of let this thread fall to the side. For the past few days I have been very busy with end of quarter final exams and final projects for school, and I haven't had the focus to do this experiment. And now I will be going camping for the next 5 - 7 days. I will get back to updating this when I return from camping. If anyone wants to post their results here, go ahead and just post whether you were successful or not, and how many cards you chose from how many total. Such as you selected 1 card from 10 cards, which is what I will be doing next. :cheeky: Good luck to anyone who tries this. :shadewink:

Neat test. Great way to help practice the abilities and help lift the ever controlling doubt that our Ego minds inflict upon us.
Must say though, do not go into this with the thought "Whats the card? Whats the card? Whats the card? Whats the card?" you will confuse yourself and most likely not even be able to Astral Project at all.
Align your Chakras, put yourself into that state just as you would normally meditate/AP then once you feel yourself there, ask yourself the question in your mind. I did so and at first the usual circles of energy I see around me instantly went into long stringy wavey lines, then I saw myself opening the drawer and pulling out the squiggly lines. It was indeed the squiggly lines.
Edit: sorry for bumping old, post but I enjoyed this and thought id share my experience.
I also used just the standard 5 you said to, along with just folding them and mixing em around in a hat to randomly pick one and hide it somewhere all while looking up in air with eyes closed; as to no chance to seeing it at all, careful not to run into things/walls when doing this :D

I'm skeptical about AP but I would like to be wrong. If I ever succeed in AP I will try something similar. I will have something like 200 cards with numbers and do the same thing. The probability of getting it right would be 0.5% on the first card and it shouldn't matter how many cards there are if you actually see it, right?
-
I haven't been continuing this test because I have determined that I was not truly APing, either it was luck or perhaps a bit of precognitive dreaming. I do think AP is possible, I just don't know how to do it properly, I don't think I have the patience to do it properly (lying still long enough so that when you get up you get up out of your body). You're right, if you truly AP, it wouldn't matter how many cards you have as long as they're all distinct enough to be sure which one you saw. I was getting a certain percentage wrong, which indicated to me that I wasn't really seeing them in AP, but since my average for getting them right was way beyond chance, maybe precognitive dreaming. Good luck with your AP endeavors! I'd like to hear about how it turns out. :)

Well... don't be too sure, Raven! :cheeky:
As far as I know, what you described isn't APing. I've never heard that you lie down and wait until you get up out of your body. One dream-or so I thought-I posted in my old log describes one particularly vivid and odd experience I had. I woke up, rolled around for a while in bed, and decided to try to perform a botched sort of WBTB. Well, it worked, and I felt those all-too-familiar vibrations. I couldn't remember where I had read it, but I remembered that I wanted to try lifting myself out of my body. I assumed I had read it as a WILD induction technique. Starting at my feet, I could feel a tingling sensation where I was lifting my astral body out of my physical body. It was rather focus intensive work, and at my torso I got stuck for a minute. But I retrained my focus and I was able to lift the rest of my body up. I flew around my room for a bit, which was difficult at first; I was a bit disoriented about how vivid everything felt. It seemed surreal, yet at the same time very real. Within a few minutes of wandering my room in a daze, I heard footsteps running down the hallway. I saw my door start to open, and everything blurred. I was soon woken up by my sister jumping up onto my bed.
After posting this in my DJ, Nomad identified it as an Astral Projection. Tbh, I completely agree with him! :D It was FAR more vivid than any dream I'd EVER experienced. Plus, I saw my door opening just before my sister came in.
Now, are you SURE you werent astral projecting? :)
-
Yeah, RoyalPeach, your description actually convinces me further that what I experienced wasn't true astral projection. For one, it lacked the vivid clarity and realism that you described. It was actually very hard to see any detail at all, including the card itself. And when I tried to separate from my body like you described, I always lost focus and ended up moving my physical body, I may need more patience and practice for that. I would have to agree with Nomad, though, it sounds like you did a successful AP. :bravo: I think I'll keep trying to get a successful AP and maybe try the card test again sometime in the future. :)

I think a better way to use the cards as a test for AP is to have someone else print out a bunch of cards with literally anything on the bottom side. Could be a photo, could be just a shape, could be text, etc. If you could successfully figure out in an AP attempt what was on the bottom of the cards without ever seeing them in waking life, you could be pretty darn sure it wasn't just chance.
Anyway, just a thought. I'm interested in AP too, but currently I don't have the time to invest in major tests like this.
