Hello! I'm Foxy and i'm 17. I discovered lucid dreaming for the very first time on the 27th of July, 2012. (Yes, I recorded the date, I was so fascinated by this concept. :P) I spent the entire day researching it on the internet on that day including what it is, how to achieve it, etc. I was just so amazed by it and the next morning I got my very first lucid dream! I got my first lucid dream within a day of discovering it and I was just so excited but the dream was EXTREMELY vague and only lasted 2 seconds. I simply just realised I was dreaming and then it had ended. I also had an alright dream recall, remembering 2-3 very vague, blurry dreams per night.

I was really motivated in lucid dreaming, kept a dream journal and did reality checks. This continued for a couple of weeks. I would remember around 2-3 dreams per night and I would have a lucid dream which lasted around 30 seconds roughly every second night.

I then sort of gave on lucid dreaming till now because it wasn't my first priority back then. But i'm not as busy now and I really want to start again. So I've been recording my dreams for every night the past week and I have been doing reality checks and recently began the ADA method and I will report on any progress here!

One question I had was, even if you are 100% lucid and you can control everything, can your dream still turn out unexpected like a normal dream? Like, can a man with a gun pop out of nowhere unexpectedly and shoot you or will you have full control of incidents like this?

I was same way as you were. I discovered LDing on 10.3.11 and had my first DILD on the same night. I also remember that date, and I suspect many of us do. It was a lifechanging event for me. I strongly believe, that I got my first lucid so soon, because of my incredible excitement. The whole time I was reading, I was holding my breath and I couldn't believe my luck, that I discovered LDing.

If you can, recall any happy/excited/wow, could this be dream feeling when practicing RCs and awareness question. This will help you get back on track.

My first LD, and many of them after, were very short. Just seconds. Mostly woke up from excitement. Even if I managed not to wake up, anytime I started flying, I got so happy and woke up.

After you become lucid, take it easy. Start walking slowly and rub your hands, clap them, touch your arms, clothes, anything that's nearby, lick something, eat something, shout or sing. This is to embed yourself with your dream, to become part of it, an active participant. This will stabilize your dream. Then repeat this every now and then, when things start to fade.

If you happen to wake up, don't move. Keep your eyes closed. Think about the previous dream. If you still in REM, you may enter another LD. This is called DEILD (dream exit initiated LD). If you feel any sensations during this, or hear something, just let it be. It will be less than 20 seconds and you will be in LD.

Check out this article about my daytime awareness question. Collection of techniques for DILD. maybe you can add something to your ADA training. It relies heavily on emotions. But should not have problem with that, since excitement got you your first LD.

I still get some blury regular dreams, but the more you think about dreaming and how much you like them, the more you gonna have some very detailed and vivid dreams. And writing every detail in your DJ will help you with that too.

And yes, even when you have control of your lucid, there will tons of unexpected things happening. But this is a good thing. And if you notice something starting that you don't care for, just think and make it go away. Projecting love is the best way I found to deal with something scary. You just think towards the scary thing - you are good and I love you and I wanna help you.

I've read threads on here about pain in lucid dreaming and the pain is just as realistic as real life. Now i'm kind of scared. :S I have read people on here being shot, sliced with knives and that the pain they felt was so immense. What if that random man with a gun shoots me and I can feel the pain? Will I be able to control the pain? I have a very low tolerance on pain and don't take it too well and I don't want to feel pain at all in dreams..

I was stabbed once but barely felt it. More of a feeling, than pain. I guess it depends on how you imagine pain. If you know it's your dream and you not gonna feel pain, than you gonna be ok.

I really would not worry about extremes that you read about. Everybody is so different. Main thing is to have pleasant, happy thoughts and your experience should be same.

Aw man I really wish I didn't read that pain thread. It really scared me and it sort of "corrupted" my mind. I never knew you could feel pain. Nevertheless, i'm not going to give up! I'm just going to try and completely wipe the aspect of pain in dreams from my mind. Happy thoughts from now on.

Yes I dont think pain is the same in a dream. I wouldnt worry about it. In over 100 LDs ive only experienced a very mild discomfort once.1

Did you get back to dream journaling? That really is the best way to get your recall back.

Yeah i've been dream journalling every night and I got a lucid dream which I remember fully! This morning, I woke up for around 5 minutes and dozed back off to sleep unintentionally. I woke up in my room and I found this weird contraption in my room. It had an on/off switch and it was vibrating and making a buzzing noise. I pressed the switch to turn it off and it stopped buzzing/vibrating. Then around 10 seconds later, it started buzzing again. Then I thought, what the heck is this thing?.. I must be dreaming! I became lucid, began walking downstairs and I felt myself waking up instantly after becoming lucid. I felt my dream body float back to my in my bed, IWL, sleeping. Everything then went black and silence is all I can hear. I couldn't move my body but I could move both my feet and my hands. A few seconds later, I woke up.

Was this REM atonia? If it was, I didn't see any scary hallucinations or anything. :D It was just pure darkness. If it is, it's the first time it has happened to me...If I laid still, would I have gone into another lucid dream? Through the DEILD method?

You could have gotten into another dream via DEILD, unless you woke up because your REM just ended. If it ended, you could still attempt a WILD. It would take you less time, because the main part - getting relaxed, has already happened - you were still relaxed from your sleep.

Maybe it was attonia, but you could move hands and feet, so I'm not sure. You could have been just very relaxed. That's when I feel like it would be hard or impossible to move, but when I test it, I can move.

The blackness - sometimes your dream ends that way, but you are still lucid in dream world. Try to get up or roll out and move your dream hands to your face and wipe the gunk out of them, or take off your sun glasses to see.

With the blackness, that was the point where I couldn't move anything but my feet and hands. I did try hard to get out of bed but I couldn't..:S Maybe at that time in the dream, I had an impression that, "why is everything black? am I in REM atonia?" and suspected that I wouldn't be able to move and as a result, I couldn't move..

I got two more lucid dreams in a row for the past two days! They last very very short though..not even a minute. In the last lucid dream, I was flying somewhere and I realised I was dreaming. I flew down, did a few RC's and it was confirmed that this was a dream. I then tried to remember IWL goals of trying to stabilise the dream but I couldn't remember when all of a sudden a man started approaching me and he looked threatening. He was coming faster and faster at me and spawned a knife. I quickly tried your tactic. I said, "I love you" to the man and before I could say "I want to help you", the man replied with "really!? you love me? *raises eyebrows suggestively and winks* can I get your number then?" I replied with "no haha" and he said, "aww :(" then walked away sheepishly. :P
