Hi I'm dallinac. I'm 13 and have had one DILD before. It only lasted for a few seconds, and I'm determined to have another lucid dream!

Welcome dallinac! I read your DJ entry. Congrats on your first DILD! WBTB is very helpful for dream recall and lucid dreaming. It isn't required though, so don't feel like you have to do it every night. If you are able to do WBTB without disturbing your sleep however, then why not do it as often as you feel like you can do it. I have had that static sound before coming out of a dream and it is usually a sign that you can re-enter the dream or DEILD...just imagine that the static is something else like a water fall or just imagine a new scene. Do you know for sure if your Dad was actually waking you up? If not, it may have been part of your dreaming mind and another sign that you could continue on dreaming. It can be hard to tell sometimes, but a motionless reality check is good for those situations.
What lucid dreaming day practices do you enjoy the most?
Thanks so much for the feedback! I do like doing WBTB because by now it's become a normal thing for me, and it's a nice time to also get a drink and maybe read a little before focusing my thoughts on a DILD. Thanks a lot for the advice about the static! I will have to try that! Also, I'm 99% sure that my dad wasn't waking me up at 4:00 AM :P
My favorite lucid dreaming day practice is this:
I do a reality check randomly (like Puffin's DILD guide) and then stop and stay in that spot for a minute and look around and become more aware. After doing it for just a few days, I've been much more aware!
EDIT: Know I know that my lucid dreaming day practice is called a RDAT
It sounds like you are really stopping and taking your time to look around and become more aware, which a lot of beginners don't get. Here is a slight tweak that you might want to try in order to put a little more of yourself into the RDAT. As you are looking around, periodically tap a finger on your nose (it sounds silly, but it reminds you that you are the person who is experiencing this awareness). I think it will help and takes no additional time and see if you notice a little shift when doing this. Also as a quick memory exercise (memory is important for bringing more of your waking memory into your lucid dreams) quickly also ask yourself what you were doing or thinking about 10 or 20 minutes ago, perhaps at the end of your RDAT routine...the memory practice is one of Sageous' techniques.
Right now I'm having lots of lucid dream fragments each night! Yay! Since I've really got the getting lucid part down, now I'm going to continue what I am currently doing but also work a lot on dream recall :)
Excellent dallinac! Strong recall is nice to have for so many reasons, so that is a great thing to put some focus on while continuing with your LD fundamentals work. I apologize for being absent lately but let me know if you have any questions. :)
Yep! I can't wait to have my dream recall improve so that I can take advantage of those lucid dreams I'm starting to have! Also, do you know of any good ways to improve my dream recall? :)
I feel that the biggest helper is taking the time to lay still with your eyes closed as soon as you wake up and asking yourself what you were just dreaming. Remembering to do that as soon as you wake is tricky but a mantra and some practice helps a lot. After the dream memories start to come to you it may then be most helpful to start writing in your dream journal or using a voice recorder and just start writing or talking until you don't remember anything more (or have to stop to get ready for your day). Does that sound like something that would work for you? Let me know if you have questions and there are additional techniques if this one won't work for you.
That seems like it will work! I'll try this tonight. Hopefully it will be like last night where I didn't need any alarms to wake up in the morning, so I won't have to move to turn off the alarm. Also, I think I'll also try harder on my WBTB's because lately I've been lazy and have just gone back to sleep after I wake up :P!
If you have a big test or a big day the next day, you can skip or doze through any planned WBTB and save them for days when you are getting plenty of sleep or weekends...but yes, it really helps to activate the mind during WBTB whenever you do chose to WBTB. Keep the activation of the mind primarily LD-related and try not to think about any waking life concerns or worries.
I'm trying some hypnosis now to try and increase my chances of lucid dreaming
Are you using the self-hypnosis scripts that StephL provided here on the forums? I think that they are helping me to become lucid more frequently. It is also good to have some goals that you want to achieve in your lucid dreams along with the self awareness components we talked about before.
No I'm trying some videos as well as a beta test for someone elses hypnosis thing. I'll have to look at StephL's scripts sometime!
Still no more lucid dreams!!! :pissed: except for almost one. I was at scout camp a few weeks ago and me and my friends stayed up late telling stories and stuff, and I went to sleep at like 11:30 or 12:00 I was just laying there and then I started feeling SP. Then I saw my kitchen on the right (everything else was black) I got so excited that I was about to enter a dream that I woke up :P
Though I am no WILD expert, it sounds like you might have been close. If you are in that situation again just try to stay calm and if there is also an area of just black again, just "look" towards the black or nothingness and try not to get excited until the dream fully forms around you.
Thanks for the tips! I think I'm going to try WILDing again because that experience helped me know what it feels like, so next time I think I might actually do it! :D
I keep trying to do a WILD or at least a MILD but here's what happens:
9:00 - I read for a little
9:45 - I try to go to sleep
10:00 - Can't fall asleep - read until 11:00
11:00 - Fall asleep
This ruins my WBTB time! I just never can fall asleep (I fell asleep at 12:00 last night)
Is this a new problem? You may want to go back to a regular pre-bed routine until you figure out the issue and see how the WBTB goes for any lucid related activity around sleep time.
Ya I probably need to start working on trying to do that!
I am guessing that you are still on summer break for a bit and if so, you should really take this opportunity to ramp up your practices if you really want to give this a go! :) How is your recall doing lately?
