How to get past the point of realization

I've been into lucid dreaming for a pretty good time time now and I'm used to keeping a DJ and checking for strange details indicating a dream. I do reality checks in life by looking at my hand, though that hasn't happened in a dream so far. The problem is, every time I realize it's a dream I wake up. I had one dream where the people around me told me I am dreaming, I woke up after they had me convienced. Seems the most probable explanation is getting excited, but last night's dream kinda made that less likely - I was in a boat and when I looked to the sky I saw 2 moons next to each other. The dream ended. Maybe it is just by chance the end of the dream, but seems unlikely. I didn't even have time to say to myself that I'm dreaming, it's like it is a reaction to discovering an anomaly in the dream.

The longest LD I have had is one where I tried to focus on an object with the intent of prolonging the dream, but even this lasted no more than several seconds. I'm already used to seeing flaws in the dreams to indicate ones and I've had a good amount of these, there is just the problem of keeping lucidity for longer than several seconds... Any ideas, seeing how the usuals of "don't get excited" and "try stabilization methods" don't seem to help me much...

Focus on the dream itself, look around, smell the air, walk around and feel how real it feels. Be positive! Think that the next time you have a LD it's going a vivid, and long experience. If you really think this will happen, it's going to happen.

You don't say how many lucids you have. This usually gets better as you have more of them. But maybe by now you think they are allways short so they turn out to be short because of that? :alien:

I'd say that you should try to be positive and believe that you'll be able to go past that moment. As those realizations occur, you'll probably be able to keep on lucid dreaming for a little while longer.

There are actions than can be done in order to stabilize and maintain the dream-state however I have not mastered them, but the others have said pretty much covers that :content:

I still wake up from my lucid dream realizations ^-^ not because of shock or excitement, but because I for some reason want to jump from heights...

But just because you wake up from the dream, it doesn't mean that it is over! Lay still and have closed eyes and try to go to sleep but at the same time expect the dream to form infront of your "eyes" and if you want you can visualize a scene. Often you will find your attention back in the dream in just a few seconds, this time more aware, more clear and with more control.
You basically convert a DILD into a WILD/DEILD.

Note that even if you move or open your eyes upon awakening, it's still not over! If you move or open your eyes, well simply close the eyes and lay still :P Lowers the chances of returning, but it's still a chance to succeed the DEILD, although it's still a big chance for a MILD.

See the techniques and methods as ONE because they really are. (WILD/DEILD, MILD, DILD, WBTB, etc) = intrumental values with the same goal.

Lucidity.

So check out some DEILD tutorials, but what I said above pretty much covers what I usually do.

Change the perspective of a problem, and it's no longer a problem. (perhaps even an asset)

Yeah thanks for the tips, I guess the main point to draw for that is that all I have to do is imagine and believe it will be a good, long lucid dream. The same goes for WILDing after waking up, like a second chance. :)

@gab - I just counted my lucid dreams, they total to 13 LDs. This includes everything that contains the point of realization, the "It's a dream" or "I'm dreaming" idea. Most of them finish there, there are several where I try to do something to stabilize, they are slightly longer, but still no more than several seconds.

I think you can attempt WILD if DILD is not working out for you. For WILD, you gained lucidity the moment you're in a dream if you're successful. There are quite a number of good tutorials on the site.

I probably won't be attempting WILD (again) before having mastered DILD - the times I have tried all ended with me giving up after a different period of time, everytime feeling stiff for a long time. The thing is, I'm not even sure if I got to Sleep Paralysis, as the moment I gave up, I could move in an instant. Guess not being a light sleeper doesn't help me with this technique either...

it's a good ide to master DILDs before moving on to WILDs. But in a mean time, you can check out this WILD tutorial. It will clear up some misconceptions, like SP, and in general, it's a very good tutorial.

BTW, you don't need SP to WILD. I never got it and I have about 30 WILDs and 30 DEILDs. Happy dreams:alien:
