Reason why I can't fly??

I can do virtually anything I want in LD's now. They're very long (or so I think, I don't know how long other peoples are) and the only thing I CANT do is the only thing that I really want to do. Flying. I've tried everything. I always say "I can fly." And I leap into the air expecting me to soar up and stuff, and it never happens. It's only happened twice in my life, and it was literally the coolest thing I'd ever felt. The two times it's happened I did the exact same thing I do in my LD's, and whenever I did fly I wasn't even lucid! The first time my family went into a laser tag place and there wasn't enough room for me inside the arena. I knew something bad was happening to them in there, and I thought I need a really fast way to get out of here. I ran out of the store and jumped off the ledge leading to the stairs and poof. I was floating. I didn't want to stay though, so I turned my body around by doing like swimming motions, and soared off. I woke up shortly after I took refuge in a local Burger King.
I've tried everything. I expect it will happen, I jump, and I fall. I'm not even in the air for longer than normal. I've tried to imagine that I'm floating up, and whenever I feel like I'm making progress a DC interrupts me. I then open my eyes to ask what they want and notice I'm still on the ground.
PLEASE HELP ME.

Maybe you are subconsciously still not fully expecting it to be successful because sometimes we get too used to logic of waking world. Have you tried getting wings? Try that, because that would solve the logic problem if it's the case. :poof:

Seriously though, try diving face-first into the ground and then pulling up at the last second. That's exactly the kind of thing that would work for me, at least. Maybe picture somewhere in the sky that you want to go to, and just decide to travel there, and it'll happen. I always end up flying by jumping very high, and then I'm in the sky and I've completely forgotten the whole idea of gravity or jumping or flying. It's just about getting where I want to go.

Flying seems to go against my nature since I have jumping down to an art. I know exactly what it feels like and how I should land. That being said, I figured out that aside from achieving really high dream control, I just needed to not think about it.

How many steps did you pay attention to when you were walking?1 2? probably didn't think about it at all! Walking is a normal function. This is the easiest way to approach dream control. Don't think about what you are about to do, just do it with the confidence of "I've done this a million times". The problem with that confidence is that it is hard to do because you don't think about the task at all. In order to not think about it at all I flew a car into the sky 5 times and jumped out, with a destination on the ground picked out. Another thing that is helpful is fake memories. Create a few fake memories in the dream of you flying, and then just fly, because you have done it before.

You need to lose control. You need to stop worrying and just go through the dream with unhinged excitement (not too unhinged, lest it wake you up). As others have said, your concern has placed an unconscious barrier on yourself. You need to break it by simply ignoring it.

I remember 20 years ago my whole reason for why I wanted to LD was because I wanted more flying dreams, and all I could achieve was some half assed floating in upright position a few inches from the ground for a while. It was pathetic. In addition to that my dream awareness for a while was not great and I had faulty logic such as: "yay, I am floating, so this must be a dream. But I could float in reality as well." Ergh! I could have hit my head against a wall, except I had tried that after my parents divorce, and while it helped dull the emotional pain then, but I would not recommend head hitting wall for anything less serious than major emotional trauma. So, where did that leave me on the flying front. Well, it took a while, and to be honest I don't remember what did it finally, but I especially remember one exceedingly vivid dream: it started out so vivid with lots of fine details, and I became aware of my dream state, and my awareness as good, and I soared out of the house rough a window, into the sky, and into outer space. And it was perfect and empowering. I know you too can soar, but what will unlock your soaring ability, I do not know. Good luck!

It's been a while since I've been active on the forums, hope everyone is well.

Flying is probably one of the most advanced aspects of Lucidity. It comes easy for some, and hard for others. There are most likely things you will be able to do that others cannot as you progress through this new skill. Flying will come in time, and won't happen all at one time. I've found through my own progression with flying, that it came in spurts, and in sessions. In fact, I have not nearly mastered flying yet, but then again I have not been actively performing the hobby as I don't have enough time anymore and sleep patterns are different now, and from a few years away from it all, I barely have LD's now as frequently as I use to when I was mastering it quite well.

The first time I lifted off, was for some reason outside of a childhood school of mine. I didn't actually fly, it was more like a hover, and if I remember correctly, it was kind of difficult that very first time because I had to learn how to control myself in the air as it automatically felt totally different than being on the ground. I guess it felt like GTA 4 when you first flew a helicopter. You had to figure out which buttons controlled vertical and horizontal movements. It kind of was like that, I had to figure out how to pitch up or down, etc. That was basically the first time. The next time, I was able to do more, but very slow. I don't mean to continue on story for story, but you will get it eventually, just be open to it. Chances are you won't be able to fly right when you gain lucidity, it depends on how lucid you actually are. So just try to remain calm, and get your surroundings clear, and take everything in. For me, this raises the lucid meter if you will, and the higher I get it, the easier the control is. Reece Jones on youtube explains the different layers of lucidity, I don't recall the detail but trying to fly at layer 1 or 2 can be much harder than flying at layer above 3.

I don't have LD's at will anymore upon going to sleep as I have not been really practicing, but I seem to always have them every 3 days or so, maybe every 2 days. I usually perform acts of which require some form of knowledge of being lucid, but for some reason, I have reached a wall, a plateau at which I can never raise that meter beyond that point anymore. Any form of LD I have consists of me going through walls like water as it takes a few seconds to go through, I can never just jump through something like Patrick Swayze in Ghost, and I am usually avoiding someone, or running from someone who always seems to know which area I am in even when I seem to call out quick " Invisibility! " LOL! But, anyway, just take it slow. The times I do actually am able to fly, it's usually a full blast fly, I can shoot up, and sore at really high speeds, but the known problem with that is scenery. Sometimes when flying really fast, you can run into a difficult time creating a environment around you causing the dream to fade. Flying comes easy for me now if I choose to do that when able, but now my problem seems to be doing something about being lucid, like I said I will do stuff like go through walls which require some lucidity, but I never act upon that to become anymore lucid than that, don't know why. Just take it slow, clear your mind, gain a solid amount of lucidity and start by hovering. Think of David Blane and Chris Angel how they put their hands to their sides for balance let's say, and they go up slowly. It may help if you do that. Put your hands to use sides, straight, and lower your arms slowly like a bottle opener does when it pushes up the cork, use that image and try to lift yourself off the ground. Practice is key.

Wow Im so confused flying it pretty much all i do . One thing i have learned is everyone is different . I become lucid and boost in the air like matrix float around for a few mins the fall back asleep . i cant really control my lucid dreams to well just sit back and enjoy .
I know what you mean once i couldnt even put my hand through the bloody wall . i new i was dream and kept trying to do it but something in my brain was not letting me.

Mybe try and day dream why your laying in bed just before you sleep. flying across the city and seeing all the roof tops and other flying thing.

One way that really helped when I was starting out was using wind to push me around in the air. I'd run forward and feel a great wind behind me that would lift me off. That might be another way to think about flying, that you're just really light and the wind is moving you around.

I'm good at flying these days, and my technique is getting this sensation of power in my stomach that feels like I'm suddenly light as a feather, so my body feels different than when I'm not flying. Sometimes I feel heavy and start to fall, but then I force the heaviness out and and once again super light. If you're able to make your body feel hollow or 'wispy' that might help you lift off.

when i first started becoming lucid, i would do so by either realizing i was climbing something too easily, jumping too high, or able to jump off rooftops unscathed. this in-turn would lead to me flying. when you become lucid... just try jumping a little higher each time. eventually you and your subconscious (lol) will realize there is nothing stopping you from lifting off the ground and flying away. just will yourself UP. up..up...and AWAY!#$%!%

Ha yeah cyeal0 i normally figure out im dreaming when i feel like im walking on the moon. doing big hops . Then become lucid and fly away .
Must be easier for some people than others and if your becoming lucid this way your already half way there.
I read some person saying they become lucid when the release they flying in a dream . So they start of flying in the first place.

I would seriously advise you to find Tinkerbell and get some fairy dust. It might be JUST what you need!

I have a completely different method to most of those on here it seems, however in my lucid dreams flying and effectively telekenisis are the only two things i can actually do(i cant create/change my enviroment/control people etc :( )

dont try and jump, it's all literally in the head for me, concerntrate on flying and let your own ability of flying take you off the ground, dont lose concerntration as if i do this on a number of occasions i have fallen and narrowly missed hitting the ground which i would not like to experience in a dream again

I feel I am quite lucky in that immediately after I realised I was lucid dreaming a natural logical step was for me to fly and so I did. And with frightening accuracy too, I so look forward to my dreams as the majority of them I can control. I hope many on here have similar experiences. :shadewink:

Here's the "control" I use to fly.

Imagine the awareness of your center of gravity; the force pulling on you, towards the earth. Now imagine you're falling, or on a trampoline, or in a rollarcoaster or something - imagine the feeling of your center of gravity pulling you somewhere else but down. Maybe practice this a little while awake.

Now when you're dreaming, instead of letting that sensation come from external circumstances, call it up deliberately. Imagine your center of gravity pulling you in the direction you want to fly in. That's how it works for me, so consistently that trying to fly makes a pretty good reality check for me.

I was trying a technique suggested to me by someone, saying to imagine the clouds were sucking you up. I ran outside and imagined that, and I started rising up off the ground. It felt SO real. I felt wind and everything. I couldn't control where I went because the clouds were still sucking me up apparently, and I floated around my backyard and my neighbors yard for a good minute or two before I woke up from the excitement. Thank you all for you help.

Awesome! This is very similar to how I first learned to fly, except I used tree branches. I focused on a tree branch and imagined myself being pulled/sucked toward it. Anyway, if you want to control where you go, you simply can change your focus to something else sucking you toward it. Say you imagine the clouds sucking you up to get airborne, then you can look around and find the direction you want to go. Pick something in that direction and imagine yourself being sucked toward. You can fly all around your dreamscape in any direction you choose by using your vision and picking out something you want to be sucked toward. Once you get more and more used to this and practice it, it gets easier and easier to fly.

i wonder if you could make a portal in the ground and think about being high above in the sky, then skydive down and learn on the decent

Is it weird that I don't think the reason you flew was the "cloud sucking" technique, or even the technique you used at all...

...but the fact that you tried it knowing you had asked experienced LD'ers how to fly and were using a technique of theirs? (In other words, you actually got yourself to expect to fly...)

Maybe I'm just weird.

Expectation is critical to dream control success, and reading about all these different techniques from all these accomplished dreamers might have been just the thing Xvaluer needed to get his expectations properly juiced.

Not that those sucking clouds weren't a pretty clever suggestion, of course.

Somehow those got out of order :P. Anyway, yeah its not weird at all. These dream control techniques are simply just ways of tricking your own brain into believe something will work. If you doubt that a technique is going to work, then most of the time, it won't. If you read a huge list of flying techniques and pick out the one that you think will work the best, then most likely, that one IS going to be the one that works the best.

Get on your front porch and just jump off it like stomach first

I usually imagine a strong gust of wind coming up from the ground, then jump into it.
Sounds kind of comical, but it actually works really well. :D

Sometimes it can be very helpful to "cheat" like this and use some kind of logic that makes things easier to imagine.

i had my first lucid dream and i couldn't fly but floating was possible though it was quite slow but i could go up as far as i wanted to but it requires so much concertation

Just Picture a Dragon, or glider wings in front of you. Also, Try putting Superman's clothes on, and jump of the empire state building.:lol:

ive always been able to fly really well, how i do it is to first jump , then feel a really strong force inside your chest, like a led weight is sitting there that suddenly desides to bolt upwards, pulling you up with it !!

Broomsticks are a good way around not knowing, but I fly like a snake moves, but up and down as well, not just side to side on the ground.
