How Do I Morph An Object/DC While Keeping It In Direct View?

As the title says - when I looked at something last LD - and wanted to change it like this - it kept just getting more detailed and hyper-sharp or even more beautiful - but it only changed into something different, after I had looked away shortly - and expected it to be exchanged with something else.
Maybe I didn´t expect the morphing properly?

Making something appear from out of sight is much easier.
I don´t know, how hard manifesting out of thin air and something big is - didn´t try ..
But somehow, I guess morphing myself might be easier - feeling myself into it - and then looking - didn´t try either - but is on the menu..;)

It seems to me - some things need more "energy" than others - but that is probably me not having good control.
Has anybody out there tips for dream-control with this?

There may be easier methods than what I am going to explain. They may involve catch phrases like "confidence" or "just believe," but that is never really very helpful.

The first thing you need to do is learn to stop thinking of the visual field in a dream as solid or conforming to even the most basic principles of real life. To do this you start with simply attempting to rend or smudge the visual field. Start with an idea that you are looking at a chalk board. Put your fingers on a table top or wall and watch very closely. Feel as if it is a painting, not real. Now draw your fingers slowly down it and expect the visuals to get mangled and blurred like they would if you did this to a fresh oil painting. As soon as you can do this with your hand, practice doing this to an object simply by moving your hand slowly in front of the object. At this point you are not trying to reshape it, you just want to blur it or warp it. You are convincing your brain that this is just graphics like a painting that is still wet. Now move to doing this simply by visualizing the blurring effect. As soon as you can look at a candle and cause it to blur and melt simply by this method, it is only a short step to what you are after. You cause the object to blur and distort, then you see in your imagination/minds eye the new object form.

You know - I choose this changing as a task for the competition - it was okay to look away - but I really felt as if there is something important and profound to be learned for it - because I was completely clue-less - just fiercely expecting it didn´t overrule my expectation of the optical field as you say.
I rather was on about getting to see it all clearly and realistically - this idea with the wet oil painting for all reality - this sounds very powerful.

I'm not sure I can add anything that Sivason has not already said. Painting images on walls with my mind while I'm awake is something that I practice a lot. I think that it also makes me better at creating things in dreams, because of the control over my visualizations.

You've probably already seen this link, but I do believe it is relevant as far as explaining some daytime practice you can do to get better at stuff like morphing DCs and advanced summoning.

Ah - forgot about that one - not sure, if I want to open the door for my subconsciousness sending stuff through in my perception of reality*.
But it is really intriguing - I had been posting something, even, a while ago - will take one more look.
This is conscious reality-perception-manipulation to a quite staggering degree - if it works.
I think, I played around with something similar as a child, though.

Very nice advice. I think I can only add one thing, that is guided meditation. It increases your visualization ability, which is crucial for LDing control. If you already do it, then great, but if not, be sure to practice it because it's like the most effective way to have strong visualization skills.

Do you mean guided as in somebody gives themes to visualize, Louai?
I have taken part in a Dharma meditation group some years back - we were meditating on texts about loving kindness, compassion.
That was actually a great experience - and calmed me down and even helped with my/our extremely high-stress, high responsibility job.
But I let it slip, when my colleague changed job and left Berlin.
She took me there, and did some readings herself, too.

This classical sitting down and "only" letting all thoughts and impressions flow through without clinging to them is pretty hard, done alone.
At least for me - also a bit dry - I suppose I need a bit more "fun" to get into it - so I liked the guided part.
Do you have something special in mind there?
I think, I will also put my nose in Sivasons lessons a bit - I believe to have come across instructions, which are not as frustrating and difficult to do than classical sitting, like my husband does.
I say this much too often - that I want to take up some way of meditating - and don´t do nothing in the end.
Hm, hm.. - LD might just be the thing, to get me back into it.
Been even doing yoga - many years more back - got to say I really liked it.
Though I´m not really fond of the advanced and really otherworldly practices - but thus far I couldn´t even see back then.

Any themes you like, any experiences that make you happy. Preferably something that can't be done fully in real life(mystical adventure, wild fantasies,...) and you would like to do in LDs. That really keeps you motivated for LDing and not get bored during the meditation session. It is very amazing. I have a daily 1 hour session to meditate about my fantasies that I want to live during LDs, and time just flies, and I get up feeling very happy and relaxed. Use isochronic tones during the session. First, sit comfortably and relax. After 5 minutes or so, your mind would be calmer, but not fully quiet,it's ok, so you start to visualize. Visualize the first scene with full senses(sight, sound, smells, temperature, wind, movement,etc.), then continue the fantacy.
Note: Don't worry about quieting your mind's dialog completely, it only needs to quiet a little, then the visualization would quiet the rest. The dialog should be quiet enough for it not to be hard to focus on the visualizations.
And when visualizing, don't worry about always using all senses, that would only make it harder to enter and stay in the trance. You should let opportunities lead to senses. For example, you are walking in a grass plane, remember that grass planes are windy, so feel wind. Keep a little, only a little attention on such opportunities, it will become second nature with practice. Also try not to plan such opportunities in the plot before the meditation on purpose, or you will find yourself waiting for the time of these opportunities during the meditation, which is not helpful for maintaining a trance.
So, only plan plan the plot in a very general way. Let the details and sensation opportunities come by their own while you are meditating.
Remember, this meditation is for fun, so make it as fun as you can, and there is no technique to it, just relax and visualize, and senses will only make it more fun:D
There's nothing to it really, just do it as it suits you. The important thing is to have fun, and the deeper the trance, the more effective it is.
Sivason's guides are very helpful, you should take a look at them. And yoga is good for health:D

yeah, morphing things in the dream is pretty interesting if not cool, to say the least. here's a quick tip from one dreamer to another: when attempting to manifest an object or shift an object while looking, begin to imagine the object changing before your eyes. I know that may sound uber simple but hear me out. while in a lucid dream, I noticed I could only manifest objects and morph them once I joined a visualization technique to it. i.e imagining a sword forming from dust then into shards of silver and bonding like clay. just a helpful hint. hope it helps, STAY LUCID!!!

Lol, my first two rules of dream control are 1. Everything requires your attention, and 2. The more attention you give something, the more related detail it creates. I'm not sure it's possible to change something you are sustaining with your attention. I think the only option is to use "blind spots", move the object out of your field of attention (which is not necessarily visual)

Blind spots are interesting. You can use them to get rid of anything, yet creation follows in their wake.

Still have to use blind spots. Here's how I did sex change one time. I was shot in the chest and the blood was running down my leg. I zoomed in visually on my leg so that it was all I could see, then mentally reframed that blood as menstrual blood. When I expanded my vision again, I was an ugly woman!

That's a great observation! But it's not energy. Everything requires your attention to exist, so attention is your main resource. Dreams are the realm of archetypes, which are basically clusters of associations which form structures. The more associations these structures have, the more attention it takes to run them.

No different than how large programs take up more processing power. Simpler concepts like "Stop" and "Go" require much less attention to sustain than say. a model of the human genome. Always be aware of anything that is eating up your attention, those make for nasty traps.

The Cusp, when are you re-writing your dream control tutorial? After all these years, the way you perform it still goes beyond anything I've seen, and I'm sure many other people would love to read more about it ^^

I'd also recommend it StephL, it's one of the best ways to morph things directly (and the experience is loads of fun :P)

Rewriting seems like such a monumental task, and there's still so much to learn! When I do try again, I think a series of youtube videos might help me get my point across easier. That way I can use graphical representations of these so called archetypes. Anyone with video creation/editing skills who wants to lend a hand, please get in touch.


Now that I think about it, I suppose you could morph an object while sustaining it with your attention. The trick would be to subdivide that object into constituent components. Then you mentally over emphasize the those divisions you want to exaggerate. It's still basically using blind spots, only on a Micro scale instead of Macro.

And about attention being the "currency to pay for effects" also - much better view than energy - since my attention does not feel limited like the energy concept suggests.
When I tried to transform into an arctic wolf - I did it like you in a way - I started with feeling hair growing out of me everywhere - and when after that I looked - I had a white fur.
If somewhat patchy - but almost completely, where I could see. My hands and feet not.
Maybe the knowledge that a partial transformation would be enough for the competition made me abort it prematurely - wanting a second set of wiiings - and going about the snowman instead.

As I understand Sivason - I can create blurry undefined "spaces" in direct view - next time I do that for sure!
It sounds very powerful to be able to deconstruct the very fabric of the optical field - starting out easy with finger and surface.

Will check out your older thread once more - I had read it shortly after I first came on here.
Got to re-read certain things methodically - esp. my thirst for info in the beginning made me read too much all at once maybe - and not really anchor it in my mind.

I will also take my mind off the comp and TOTMs a bit - while I find them absolutely great and am sure, much of my success comes directly from that source of motivation - I need a bit of lucid playtime only for myself, too.
What nags me for example, is that I am almost sure that the last LD ended because I felt I had done all that I had planned - stupid, stupid Steph..

lol just add a fun thing to your goals:p, I'm sure you'll remember to do it in your next LD even if you have other work that needs to be done in the LD.
