Different powers to try?

So I'm fairly new to LDing and trying to come up with different powers to try out in an attempt to stretch my abilities and learn greater control.

Last night during my LD I was having much better luck holding the dream stable than previously, so I thought I'd start trying out some different abilities to see what all I could do. In the dream I was in a fight with many gun-wielding enemies, so most of the powers I attempted were related to fighting.

During the fight I was able to; throw energy balls, shoot lightning, create earthquakes, and heal myself by touching my hand to the wound. (For those that know the show I was watching an old rerun of Charmed on TV shortly before going to sleep so thats where some of the power ideas came from)

When I eventually awoke after the dream my 1st thought was along the lines of 'idiot, why didn't you try flying' so after DEILDing to return to dreaming I flew into Earth orbit. (actually I tried to land on the moon, but my aim was off and I kept missing before finally coming back to earth)

Anyways, since I was able to successfully use all the powers I attempted I was looking for some other suggestions for things to try. (I have also had some luck with teleporting in previuos LD's but my record in that is not as good)

Telekinesis and summoning objects are already on my list of things to try next time (As well as shielding myself so I don't have to use healing so frequently :?), but I was wondering what suggestions others might have for abilities to try out. Any advise you may have in better harnessing abilities is also much appriciated. :D

Flying of course...

Fireballs and energyballs are fun for explosions...

Epic battles are great too.

A good one for fights is blood/DNA blades, so useful if you get hurt lol

Blood/DNA blade? I guess I'm not exactly sure what that is. Is it like when your arm/hand morphs into a blade?

Yep, morphing these 2 things into blades + telekinesis is a fav of mine when I get hurt lol

A challenging power to try is walking through walls or melting through floors. It is very difficult unless I am very familiar with the place I try it in, like my house. Otherwise, I get lost in a black abyss until my mind renders a new place, making it more like teleportation. The easiest seems to be walking through doors in my house, since I already know what's on the other side. Good luck!

Kinda like flying but just hopping around/floating is a fun thing to do :)


Also this isn't a power but just explore the dream world. It's amazing!

I find walking through walls to be pretty easy. However, you are right, it oftens turns into teleportation rather than actually passing through walls, since you can't really know what actually is on the other side :P

As for new powers, I've always wanted to try and melt, or you know, become liquid. Shapeshifting also sounds cool, like morphing into a bird.

You should try flying into the sun next time, should be easier to hit. Plus there is this girl who lives in the center of the sun who is really, really hot!

If you have heard of a show called avatar befor, try being him, if not, he can control the elements,

rg. make giant rockbals from the earth, mould the battle field to the way he wants and shoot fire and wind and control water, basic elemental power

Or..try being iron man !

Well most of the decent things have been listed already

pyrokinetics-the ability of setting things on fire using your mind
cryokinetics-the ability of freezing things using your mind
duplication-this might be hard but fun
invisibilty-very fun but sometimes tricky

here are just some of the things you can try

(the only one here I have tryed is invisibilty so I don't know how hard the other powers are)

x-ray vision

making tornadoes

causing lightning to strike

super-speed

time travel (travelling to distant times)
OR
making the enire world stop/pause, go in reverse, slow down, or speed up

turn into a ghost and haunt a family

having a voice/scream/laugh that can shatter glass/destroy building

become a giant

jumping really really really high

limb stretching

morph your arm into a machine gun

create a black hole

spiderman's powers are always fun

USE NO SUPERPOWER but your mastery of martial arts/fighting technique

melt into liquid

shrink to the size of a toy

the power to possess bodies

just a few :P

You can also look through the Lucid Task threads, those have some good ideas. You wont get anything for completing the older ones now, but it is still good practice.

i had a ld this morning and tryed telekinis and i failed it so i tryed energy balls i made them but i couldnt aim with it, it just randomly flew off in a direction lol

It's nice to expand your dream powers, but I find it efficient to use sets of dream powers that revolve around themes. Some powers can be energy based (fireballs, energy swords, laser beams), reality manipulation based (time control, telekinesis, reality warping), based on yourself (shapeshifting, super-strength, teleportation), and many other sets exist. To start off and not go crazy with your dream powers, think of your favorites, then go with those till you find something else worthy of trying in your lucids.

You risk trying everything and not knowing what exactly you want to do anymore. At least, that's how I feel about it.

My favorite is shapeshifting. It is such an exhilarating experience, feeling your body change into some sort of powerful creature. It is also a fun way to work on dissolving your ego.

Those time manipulation ones sound fun.

I've actually been having trouble realizing I am in dreams lately though because some on the common indicators aren't working anymore for me. Technology not working in dreams being the big one. I've actually watched tv, used the phone, and even gone on the computer in my dreams over the last week, so I can't really rely on those not working as give aways anymore.

360 degree vision...never tried it, and might be quite hard to pull-off, but reckon it'd be quite cool!

I tried shooting energy balls out of my palm last night and my accuracy wasn't too good either. I then tried charging up my arm to shoot a beam, and it was much straighter :)

When it comes to energy balls, I prefer to throw them.

If you shoot them out of your hands, they seem to take an odd path, atleast with me anyway.

But if I make one, hold it in my hand, and pitch it, I'm much more accurate.

I actually had a pretty good run of LD's the last 2 nights (like 2 1 night and 4 the next w/DEILD) where I got a chance to test out a few more powers.

I managed 2 walk through several walls (actually wasn't really hard, I just had never tried), I summoned a person by calling out for them to appear (Cupid for TotM), & I was able to twist and manipulate the shape of a DC's body by telekinetically using my hands to bend them to different shapes. (I also telikinetically severed a DC's foot :P)

For some reason my teleportation was off last night though. I would do like I had in the past and close my eyes and picture where I want to go to. I would even feel like I was teleporting (even hearing the sound I usually hear when I do), but when I opened my eyes again afterwords I was right where I had been.

I was able to work around it by calling out to summon portals to the location I wanted to go to and then jumping through them to get there, but it still seems odd I couldn't teleport like normal. (Also I still can't seem to manage to summon objects into my hands)

i have trouble summoning people or objects out of nowhere, but i can change objects into different things, i remember once i stared at a DC and concentrated, and i turned him into a floating hotdog :)

hey maybe imagine different dc's have different powers and go on absorbing all of them? Maybe then you can get a pretty cool set of powers easily. Then spawn an army of yours and have them fight the infinite army youre facing?

Since you are new to this, dont try to force control at once, or your dream will fade quickly, it will feel unrealistic. Try passive control

Example of force control: You are super strong because you want to.
Example of passive control: You got bitten by a magical snake that makes you super strong.

Try having an epic battle with sephiroth from final fantasy or sumthin. I always pictured that to be pretty cool. :)

Yes. You could try reading peoples minds like Matt 'PARKMAN' from NBCs TV show, Heroes. :D Sorry - I can't help being a panickity twat.

I haven't had a Lucid dream yet, but being a big fan of Heroes has given me a lot of dream targets to achieve when I do have one. I want to try all of the abilities in Heroes: shooting flames from my hands, shooting electricity from my hands, telekinesis, super strenght, space-time manipulation, freezing, and not to mention flying.

All I have to say is: Portal Gun.

Not exactly conventional, or strictly a power, but so much fun. Especially in those low level LD's where doing too many crazy things is harder than it's worth.

I use this when I want to free-fall, what with being afraid of heights and all.

Also, spontaneously combustion is fun to play with. Although, the last DC I tried to do that to (because he was being a dick) reversed it on me somehow. I managed to stop it, but it felt really weird.

by the way, if you have issues shooting fire/lightning and so on out of your hands, (say you prepare to blast something and it doesn't work) just tell a DC to go fetch you some magic whether it's in the form of dust or a syringe or whatever and use it. helps for me when i find myself incapable of using special powers or summoning items.

How do you guys keep your dreams stable when using these crazy powers?

I'm pretty new to LD and so far all I've been able to do is breathe fire lol. If I try to fly or use telekinesis I have to focus too much and end up losing lucidity.

Summoning a portal to enter your own personal "realm" sounds nice :)
And of course, all the goodies, such as flying, super strength, telekinesis etc.

I'd really like to try slow motion so I can do badass Matrix stuff

The other night, I somehow created what can only be described as a Halo 3 Killball. I was trying to make an energy bolt, and was doing a pretty good job of it, until the point where I "shot" it at a DC who had been attacking me. It kinda just trudged along, moving forward at odd spurts, before it stopped right in front of him. With a force of will I made the small orangey glowing ball expand rapidly. It enveloped the DC, and vaporized him almost instantly. It didn't dissipate afterward, and I got the feeling that if I touched it I would die too.

Anyways, this was a cool find and seems like something that would be fun to replicate and mess with. Maybe use some telekinesis and throw it into some DCs. . . I don't know, just something I felt like sharing.

Somebody was trying to run me over in a car once, so I tried to blow it up by snapping my fingers. Nothing happened. Then I imagined a small ball of fire in the middle of the car and tried it again. This time, it shot up in the air and flames flew out the windows.

what about making puppets out of your opponents. i have yet to try that.

Telekenesis is really fun, thats one of the powers for some reason i already knew when i had my first LD

try turning your finger counter clockwise for me it reverses what happens etc an object falls and you rotate your figner counter clockwise it magicly flys back to its position.

My next LD i'll try summoning some DC's and ask them questions.

I had a dream where i was a jedi and at the begining iwas taking things out force pushing them and throwing my lightsaber and it coming back but then when i was kinda lucid i tried to fight a sith so i force pushed him and i kinda saw a ripple in the ir as it traveled but when it hit him nothing happened so i tried to throw something and it wiggled.So i focus really hard till my head hurt(not IRL)and it moved very slow and i missed but it moved.

I wonder why this happens
