Very Odd Dream, but maybe meaningful?

Okay, so last night I had a dream. I think it may mean a lot about my life. So, here it goes.......

I see a car driving down the road, and it's going around a curve. All of a sudden, it gets out of control and swerves off the side of the road. It's hanging by one tire off of a cliff. So, apparently I get out of the car and hop over to one side. Then, family members start getting out of it. I am supposed to help them onto the land. So, my dad is first. I grab ahold of his hand and I pull him up, he's saved. Then, his mom and dad are next and I pull them up to safety. But, then my mom comes, and I have a hold of her hand and then all of a sudden I look down at our hands and smile and just let go, and let her fall and die. Then, I do the same thing with her mom and her dad. I don't feel remorse or anything. And then I wake up.

Now, I don't have a good relationship with my mom at all. Her and my dad got divorced when I was two, and he got custody of me. She didn't really want me. We don't talk much, and she doesn't call me on my birthday or anything like that. For a while now, I had this idea in my head that she actually loved me and we might be able to have a little bit of a relationship. But, now that thought is starting to fade away from my mind. And, I think this dream just signifies me saying "okay, whatever" and just "letting go" of her and that side of my family. What do you think?

You're probably right, but it's possible this dream is actually stemming from a desire to see your mother again.

This might seem counter-intuitive, but when I recently had a dream about being violent towards my family, I was actually yearning to see them again. I was very frustrated towards them in the dream (various reasons), but when I saw them in the flesh, I just completely forgave them. I felt much better for the "reconcilliation", even though they had no idea anything had been preying on my mind.I think being apart often lets bad feelings grow out of proportion. Seeing people for real is the best antidote.

I'm lucky not to have had any family upsets like you have and your dream seemed curiously emotionless, so what I've said may not apply. Whatever you decide though, I wish you well.

My interpretation: You have to let go of your mother to be happy. You saved (kept for yourself ie. they are what you need) your father and the ones important to you. You let your mother go and it caused no unhappiness.

While the transition might not be this quick and painless in real life I think there is little room for doubt in the symbolism. You need to keep your dad and let your mother, and all the things related to her, go.

That's a very interesting dream & self interpretation. I guess the car represents your parents' marriage, and it's hanging on one tire would be the slight connectivity you have with them.
I always knew that death has nothing to do with real death, but what the characters really mean in unclear. I guess your mother wasn't exactly your mother herself but the relationship and her impact on you, and her character. So when she dies in the dream it's really the relationship that died.
There's a common theory floating around that everyone (and in my opinion everything) in dreams represents a part of you. It was your feelings for your mother that died.
