"Life is but a Dream"

Ah, the wonders of the internet! I have wanted to record, as best I could, my vague and often frusratingly complex or ridiculous dream habits. Since this summer, I've been dead set on learning anything I could about psychology, starting with The Mind at Night by Andrea Rock. I've read bits and pieces of Freud's work, as well as the experimentation of J. Allen Hobson... an anti-Freud. {I also enjoy gender identity and sexuality-based studies... but I won't ramble.}

My boyfriend{an erotic lucid dreamer, with explicit, in both senses, recollection of any story woven through his head}is an extreme source of jealousy! I want to be able to do that!

Starting tonight, I can! {Er, I hope, that is.} Said boyfriend is waking up at the same time as I, 3:30 AM, after 5 hours of sleep, to send text messages in order to stay awake. We'll both attempt to use dream scenes to slip into lucidity.

:welcome: to DreamViews, R&R! You will be able to do it! You are lucky to have someone who already knows how; I, and a lot of us here, am in this alone (except for our DV buddies of course).

I hope you don't mind me posting in your journal, but we like to welcome any first-time poster. I find this experiment of yours to be very interesting; let us know how it turns out. You're doing the right thing to journal and try to improve your recall; also start trying to recognize your own personal dream signs and practice reality checking thru the day. I am very excited to document last night's happenings. I, with much enthusiasm, don't remember it, but I quickly turned of my alarm at 3:30. Two minutes later I knew my partner-in-training was up, from a text message. Of course, I later found out he was in much pain in the night, he cramped up when he woke up. I was on my own. Ten minutes of yawning and trying to keep my eyes open passed, and I settled back into bed. I muttered at least 1o times the normal... "I will remember this dream, I will make it a reality," etc. I soon after started imagining settings, anything familiar, often hallucination-like[a random banana...]. After probably 15 seconds of this, I felt myself slipping... my feet, which I supposed had been pretty tense, relaxed completely and I could barely move, but I was still awake. I pulled myself out of whatever the heck that was, and began again. This time, an almost tingly, but freakish sensation ran up my legs. I backed out again because I was quite nervous, figuring it was a result of drifting off. Again I thought, and the same sensation rose all the way into my cheeks. It was too funny feeling for me, and I thought a little more on the dream I had upon awakening, and I guess I just fell back asleep as normal.

What's totally awesome is the fact that I remember my normal dreams. It was a continuation, for the most part. That rarely happens to me. All I remeber of the first part is that Robert, a good friend of mine, was being very.. touchy... with me. Hands on my legs, etc. It made me very uncomfortable, 'cause I knew, as in reality, I had Caleb, and found love already! The setting was school, but not in the sense that I realized it was... so... I guess I'm not sure about that.

The latter of this experience was still based around Robert, but with more characters. At first the beginning, I think I was still in the school-like setting, but in a very posh room, with nice furniture. There were a lot of blonde guys, one I know from Geography class, and the rest were just random prep-boys. Also there, as she would be in reality, was a liar named Nicole. I thought nothing of it. With me the whole time were Megan, my best friend for ten years, and Robert. A few minutes in the room, and Robert was licking my neck, exactly like Caleb does. The kid from my Geography class, Paul, was sitting in front of me, on the floor, while Robert and I were on a turquoise ottoman. I don't remember anything except a little dog and walking through school corridors until I found myself in a very nice auditorium, much like the one I went to see Dream Theater in this past August. I talked to Mrs. B, my mom's good friend, and took a seat, looking around for Megan and Robert. Turns out I was sitting right next to them the entire time, Megan in a costume, kinda guy-ish looking… They laughed at me… that’s it, I believe.

I do know this one has meaning, for the day of [yesterday] someone was in a bad mood and said Robert and I should just start dating, since we spend a LOT of time together at school. It kinda freaked me out…. And I saw Mrs. B, at a concert so I know where that came from too.

I guess I should also mention that I’m on a small dosage of the anti-depressant sertraline. {Zoloft}for anxiety… and meds for acid reflux.

[Oh, I wrote most of this early in the morning... but sadly didn't get to finish before I had to leave.]

Sheesh... I am lazy. I didn't wake up during the night, therefore... I remembered nothing of my dream(s). Maybe it's cause I fell asleep on the couch... I don't even remember getting into bed. I'll try harder this week...

Well, at lack of an "explicit recollection of any stories in your head", as you put it, a good idea for dream recall practice is to have a steady sleep schedule. Sleep at the same time every night.

It's also a good idea to get to know your dreams well, get a feel for them, before attempting lucidity.

And last but not least, intent is the power behind waking up at night without an alarm (through will power) so make sure you really mean it, and, like said above, being intrigued of your dreams and knowing what they're like will help tell the subconscious to wake up at night since a common way is to have the intent to wake up after every dream throughout the night.

That's certainly an interesting way to put it... I can actually never even think of waking up at a certain time without an alarm. [my friends can... but me? No way.]

My dream of last night... a normal one, but the wonderful part is that I remember it. I woke up and immeadiately thought I had lost it, but thought, "Wait.... that story in my head was a dream.." And it came back.

Started off outside my dance studio. My mom left me there, to pick up information cards on whomever she knew. These cards were placed outside the classroom dorrs. I gathered the ones she wanted, and gave them to her. I had time to spare, so I sat and watched a jazz class. After, another jazz class began, but my sister and some other various children watched too. Err... they were little children, and I think some of them were unclothed. But they soon dissapeared from the setting, which became a band practice, the conductor looking much like an older version of a band member I know from school. My mother appears again, to watch. Somehow, she asks about a cracked tile on display, and the conductor shows it to her, claiming it was from her kitchen ceiling, and that it smelled bad. It had the 4 sentence types on it[declarative, exclamatory, etc.], and my mother had been trying to identify them. Back to practicing, and a boy in the band decided to drink root beer a funny way, scared of the 'germs' in that tile. It involved a plastic bag as well as a straw and a cup. The other kids laughed and said... 'You can't suck that way!'

I think that's about it....

Hah, sounds like a good dream (they all are, except for the nightmares).
And get rid of that mentality. Anyone can wake up through intent. More so, anyone can do anything. Literally. If you want to light a fireball in your hand, you can do it, you just need to find the way to do so. If you want to fly, you can, you just need to find a way to do so.
Same goes for dreaming...especially for dreaming, since it deals precisely with the mind and the mind is the one area that requires using intent the most.

So good luck with recall and hope you have some more meaningful dreams soon.
Dreams about kitchen tiles aren't all that exciting, hahah. :P

Aha!

I've had three dreams this week I can remember. All of which involve people from school. That's really weird, it's normally not like that.

Mmkay. First- Uhh... let's skip this one. It was just some semi-erotic playing between myself and my boyfriend. Do I really have to elaborate?

The next... something that's been haunting me. I dreamt this part first, but remembered it second. I was at an art school, that looked like a mixture of my high school and middle school. I was with Robert, of course. People just kept on saying we should start dating, as we were carrying paintings back and forth. And, eventually, the person I was with looked like Tony, but it was still Robert. It was confusing.

Another part invloved, yet again, an art class, with my real-life art teachers. But in a big room, with comfortable chairs and huge easels. This one didn't last very long.

The last part was anxiety-ridden. I have emetophobia, and Katie, a peer of mine, had one of her normal real-life migraines. She was telling the Biology teacher she felt like she was going to vomit... I had a panic attack. Most of my dreams are in third person... I see myself. This one was in first person, actually through my eyes. Maybe because I've experienced that exact thing before.

Just last night, Robert was again the star. Except that he dragged me off, to be alone, and revealed his feelings to me. And they certainly weren't feelings of hate. And it's like I wanted to hear that.... [ahem] well.... he even grabbed my waist like Caleb does, among other things.

Scene switch! It was outside. On a mountain or something. There were bleachers totally full of people. All I remember is that I knew someone in the crowd, Lijia. And I think a family close to ours was there, too. A choir teacher I know was the ring-leader of what was going on. I don't recall much else except for flying over a lake/water source with weird buildings around it in a helicopter or an airplane. o_______________O

Wow.

Moving along... I haven't remembered any dreams since the last but one.

It seems important.

I start off in my Biology classroom, doind a lab and such. My peers are there, but I only seem to recall the ones I know fairly well. I hear some noise from outside the second entrance to the room, and notice that you can see through the door into another clasroom. And after a bit of staring, I realize my boyfriend is in that class. I actually rememebr what he looks like and what he was wearing. Looked quite adorable, as usual. I watched him for some time, before the teacher, who is actually my teacher, lets us wander around the room for a moment. I peer outside the door until he sees me, and comes out to greet his beloved girlfriend, who wanted nothing more than to see him, but as I'm a few feet away, Robert, the butthole, pulls me back into the classroom by putting his arm clear around my waist. It was obvious he didn't want me to acknowlegde me boyfriend, who walks away, looking almost in tears, like I knew he would be. I also get very sad, almost crying, and sit at the back of the classroom to read. There were two people I know sitting back there. I noticed a yellow puddle on the table, but leave it there until me, Megan, Robert, and others go back there to do another lab. I didn't want to speak to any of them.


I remember another part. My sister and I were in an arcade-like place. My mother asks us to find any Pokemon-related games. We eventually find 3 in a small room off the main one, and begin playing them, as if we had been there before. There was one with stuffed Pokemon as prizes, and my sister and I try to find quarters to use it. As we try to put one in the machine, a whole mess of bigger, older, stranger coins fall out, as if someone was trying to use them in the machine instead of quarters. My dad comed up to us, and we explain, as a worker/employee also appears. She notes the mess, as my dad hands her my job application.

I know what the first one symbolizes....
