B-6 & Melatonin for recall?

Hi all, about a month ago I became interested in lucid dreaming. I started working on my dream recall. After about 4 days of no recall I started taking a 100 mg B-6 & a 5 mg Melatonin pill each night before bed time. My dream recall started to improve with 1 or 2 dreams a night for about 2 1/2 weeks. Since then I have on had one dream (lucid) that I can recall. About 4 days ago I quite taking both pills.

My question is can you use these suppliments to much to have them work continually? Is my dosage too much? I am doing everything I did when recalling good, I keep a dream journal and tell myself "when I wakeup I will remember my dreams".

Anyone take these suppliments every night with continually good recall?

I don't really know about B-6.

However I do know about Melatonin, 5mg is safe enough to take, but I do know they also have them in 3mg pill form. If you want to keep taking them, I suggest you try that instead of 5, simply because you don't want to throw too much Melatonin into your system so soon if it's unnecessary. Don't start with a high dosage, start small, then work your way up if need be. Also, you must realize that dream recall can be accomplished w/o supplements. You are still very new to Lucid Dreaming, and you don't want to rely on a crutch for something so early, and so easy as recall. Melatonin is fine to take, just after about (I believe it was) 4-5 weeks, take a week off.

Also, food for thought:

At night, your own brain makes its' own melatonin. However, if you have lights on (say a computer for instance, or LED's etc..) then it could affect how your brain produces it, and how much.

A week ago I couldn't remember any of my dreams from the past two or three months, since I have started learning about LD I recalled 3-4 dreams on 3 different nights. You just have to want to remember your dreams. Tell yourself that you will remember and you will. Also, with melatonin do not take it every day, like Jorge said, take a week or two off. I took melatonin for a while because of trouble sleeping and your body will stop/slow down making it if you keep taking it, which can cause partial dependance on it. It fricken sucks.

The melatonin could be halved. With melatonin, less is more, as taking too much can wipe out recall. You want to take it for the REM rebound.

B6 you need to be careful of. Prolonged overdoses can cause temporary loss of sensation in fingertips, hands etc. By overdose, I simply mean taking more than required.

I used to take 3mg Melatonin 200mg B6 for lucid dreams. Its not really needed; it helps if you need to get used to what a lucid dream is like for comparison to waking life.

I wouldn't recommend using it every night. Two nights in a row at most, but after that I would take a break. In all honesty, these aren't really needed. I stopped using them myself.

After taking about 6 days off both I tried about 50mg B-6 & 2 mg of melatonin on Friday & Saturday nights; I recalled 3 dreams but slept poorly. I think the B-6 at bed time wakes me up in about 3 to 4 hours and its then very hard to fall back to sleep. I think that even 50 mg of B-6 may be too much for me to take on a daily basis. So during the week I just take a multi-vitiman.
I'm also in my 4th ay of trying 1500 mg of L-Tryptophan to try and fall asleep easer. I have always had problems falling asleep qucikly and then staying asleep. What are other's taking to help with falling asleep? I usually get about 6 hours of sleep on most nights, if I'm lucky maybe 8 or 9.

I do tell myself I will remember my dreans while trying asleep about 20 to 30 times and I'm belive I will. I think sometimes we can put too much pressure on ourselves. I'm almost 47 now and know myself pretty well. How many times are ya"ll telling yourselve's you will remember your Dreams?

In my opinion, don't take the melatonin unless you are having trouble sleeping. The dream recall can be made up for by working on dream recall. I was alway horrible at recalling dreams but like i said, i remember 3-4 most nights now other then the nights I drink.

Melatonin can cause you to feel "drowsy/foggy" in the morning, so that's normal. Not sure how the B6 plays a role.

But I recommend Melatonin for "trying" to get a good night's sleep. Now that I think about it, not sure if it will actually help with recall.

You say you have trouble falling back to sleep...that sounds like the perfect opportunity for a small dose of melatonin =)
