Nice few posts Elis, Thanks for the info!

Because of this game, I'm quite convinced to buy PS3 if I get more money.
But I'm quite broke right now... sadly.
By the way GTA 3 San Andreas wasn't too bad, it is just gosh darn frustrating.
The soundtracks were pretty good. i.e Alternative x, K dst.
Yeah i also cant wait for the gta to come out. I own a 360 cant wait for the online play and the no loading screens.
Not sure why this turned into a fanboy war (oh wait, that's right people are retarded about the consoles they like...), but I'm definitely looking forward to GTA IV.
I can't believe it's only a week away!
Free Roam mode is going to be kick ass...the thought of running around just causing mayhem, performing "hits" on random players and taking out rival gangs is pretty sweet. The only thing that scares me about GTA IV is Rockstar's shoddy 360 edition of "Bully". I know it was a port from last gen, but damn that thing sucked.
But from what I've read they have really pulled out all the stops and are using Natural Motion animations for the characters, as well as other enhancements (multiplayer modes, new targeting/shooting system, etc.) I still haven't pre-ordered a copy, I guess I should just in case it sells out everywhere...which in my town is quite possible.
Saints Row 2 Is going to stomp GTA IV come this August. You can count on that!
Saints Row is just a wannabe GTA.

Check it out and you will agree :goodjob2:
I don't think Saints Row II will stomp GTA IV in terms of sales (there is just no way), but as far as gameplay is concerned I really like Saints Row I and will definitely be picking up II.
Is it a GTA clone?
Sure, but that's not a bad thing in my mind.
gta4 is going to make saint's row 2 look like a pile of shit, there is no way it can be better, except for possibly the graphics which probably won't be better anyways. seriously, how can you improve on gta4's gameplay as of now? 7 days btw!!!
Seeing as how you haven't played either SR2 or GTA4 you're just on personal preference. How do you know what GTA4's gameplay is like? Maybe it's shitty as hell. And how do you know the graphics aren't gonna be better? 4 months extra dev time could make a huge difference.
Sorry my friend but thats not the only difference. I must admit GTA has up the ante in the graphics area, but they had to because the first Saints Row had them beat in that area hands down. First of all Saints Row 2 has Keith David and GTA IV has a protagonist who reminds me of a the Russian in Armegeddon. Saints Row2 doesn't even try for the pseudo relism that GTA had. Saints Row had the player able to take down armies right from the start. You are an ultra skilled nigh invicible battle tank from the word GO! There's a lot more stuff exploding in one big mission in Saints Row than any of the GTA games, its just a far more bombastic game.
Face it GTA is dead, following the footsteps of Halo, the series had become nothing but a Hype-Machine. Everyone will buy it just because it's GTA. Saints Row 2 will take over GTA in the same sense that Call of Duty 4 took over Halo. Why? Becuase Rockstar has become complacent, just as Bungie did, and Volition has something to prove, just as Infinity Ward did and you can take that to the bank!
I completely disagree with you. From all preliminary accounts, GTA has upped the ante in everything. The graphics, the gameplay, the cinematography, the missions, the overall scope. The last few installments of the series were hype, sure. San Andreas was fun, but that's about it. GTA3 was good as the first of its kind, but still left a lot to be desired. GTAIV looks to be a completely different monster.
I think it's kind of interesting how even the link that you posted states that the writer thinks GTAIV is going to be a better game.
Saints Row may be a bit more "over the top," and have MP co-op, but I still don't think that's going to be enough to contend with the realism, scope and detail of GTAIV. I mean, let's face it, 60% of the appeal of the previous GTA's was just the free-roam aspect - going around and doing whatever the hell you wanted to do. So, while SR has multi-player co-op, I could find myself having just as much (most likely more) fun playing Death Match and Cops and Robbers in the simulated world that GTA looks like it's going to be providing.
i've been amped up about this game since I had a 360, and it's the reason why I own one. And GTAIII was the reason I owned a PS2. Games like Mass Effect, Ace Combat 6, and Gears of War helped me make it through the wait, but now that the release is so close I'm going crazy.
And as for this 360/PS3 beef thats been going on....kinda sad when the WII has trumped all of that crap sales wise. I'll never buy one, but damn, Nintendo took the very idea of there games and turned it into a system. Less was more. I'm just hoping blockbusters like this keep coming out so people will start realizing "hey...my system cant handle that". And when is the next Tekken and Soul Calibur coming out? Two reasons why i delayed a purchase of a PS3....
Thats exactly my scenario! Thoses good games like BioShock and Forza etc just got me throguh the wait, but it seams strange as it's almost as if I cant beleive its coming out in 6 days, I remember when I said ages ago :
''2 Years!? Ahh Man...''
now its less than 200 hours :boogie:
Don't get me wrong Oneironaut, I know GTA is going to do work in regards to sales. However one should never sleep on it's competition. Saints Row 2 is definately going to have the advantage in gender re-assignment surgery, character customization on diverse levels. You can actually customize your characters walk. Can you believe that! Not to mention, free aim, music on foot, GPS, calling for a cab on your cell phone, this stuff is new to GTA but not the genre. Weapons, Stun guns, dual weilding weapons, Females can create there own characters, customizable taunts, voice and yes Saints Row will also incorporate a free roam full city anything goes online mulitplayer platform. And to top things off Saints Row has Uncle GARY!

Actually, I'm not talking about sales. Sales is the last thing I use to gauge how good a game is. If that's what you're discussing, then that's completely different. Even so, I don't think Saints Row will trump GTA in sales, even if for nothing else but popularity, alone.
That's true.
A cool little gimmick, but it's definitely not something I would factor into what makes a better game or not.
Yes, they will both have these things. All of those being equal, I still believe Grand Theft Auto may offer a little more, aesthetically. But, sure, it's hard to tell until the games are actually out.
But, here is a good overview of some of the new features in GTA 4. Check the Gameplay, NPC Behavior, and Environment sections.
Yes, yes, we all love Gary Busey. :chuckle:
Also, I don't see any weapons that haven't been done, in some form, in previous GTA games. I don't know the entire GTA weapons list, but everything in Saints Row pretty much looks familiar - even dual-wielding uzis.
All things considered, I just don't see anything that screams out that Saints Row is going to "stomp" GTA 4.
We'll see.
Well one things for sure is that I'm definately getting both. I've already reserved GTA IV. I guess I'm just more excited of the fact that we have 2 free roaming games available and not just one anymore.
Leaked gameplay footage of GTA IV today:

(Not really any spoilers I don't think, although it does show part of the opening sequence)
Looks like they've upgraded in the vehicle department as well. They look pretty damn good.
