Anyone else hyped? Man I love this game. I think I have invested more time with this game than any other.

I loved broodwar, I wasted a really huge portion of my life on that.
The first Starcraft was and still is my favourite game of all time, so you can imagine just how excited I've been since the day they announced the second one. I really cannot wait, and it's driving me nuts how there's been no announcement of a release date. I even watched the play-by-play video of two people in a skirmish, which I would never do for any other game, and I was excited the whole way through.
I didn't play the first one until later, thought I hear it is still popular. I'm not a fan of the RTS community/competitive scene sometimes, but I like well made, balanced RTS games and their artwork and so am looking forward to this.
I spent most of my younger life on starcraft, playing or making maps.
Great memories... I doubt I can run SC2 on my computer, but one day...
i....
cant....
wait...
Can't wait.
I've been anticipating this game as well....but my hype has died down in the years because Blizzard takes too long to make new productions, but hey, at least they make the wait worth it.
....still, they just take too damn long.
P.S. I wonder if the Crayons are going to rule this game as well. (Koreans)
They don't have a release date on Diablo 3 either (booo). But I'm down to pick up both of them once they're out. I was a bigger Command and Conquer player over Starcraft though.
KIROV REPORTING!
Even though it has been taking a while to release, I think it's going to turn out to be a good game. I'm looking forward to buy the premium/collectors edition if available. I just hope it lives up to the hype. I'm probably going to have to update my graphics card though.
Also, how did DoW2 fail? I was considering getting it.
wow, this game expands upon the original game in every way. I hope all my friends get this game (the best thing about playing the original).
Red Alert 2 > Red Alert 3
Tiberian Sun > Tiberium Wars
They're entertaining, but I just like the originals better. What can I say?
Well that's just my opinion. I think the gameplay sucks. I hear it's similar to COH. I never played COH, but apparently people liked that, so I guess they'll like this one. Read my DOW 2 thread.
Apparently the game is going to be released in 3 parts. The Terran campaign is going to be released first, followed by the Zerg campaign I believe, and then the Protoss campaign last. I'm not sure on pricing but I think it's $20-30 for each part.
Campaigns can only play the respective race that the campaign is for however the online mode will feature all 3 races as playable. I'm so looking forward to this game Starcraft and Broodwar were amazing games. Hundreds of hours on these beasts.
I thought that the 3 different parts were the expansions, and that the first game is the "opener".
Also, we should all play SC2 when it comes out.
Clan Dreams? DV?
[DV]Onus reporting
~
dude, a dreamviews clan....I totally never thought of that....but how do we answer when people ask the story behind our clan tag? they'll think we're weird....oh well, sounds fun!!
I'm vaguely interested in it. It looks polished and it's most likely a great game, but I'm hoping more for DOW II. (Trying the Beta tonight hopefully). I'm too much of a laid back player to get too into the competitive aspect of starcraft and I always got too bored of the campaign in the original to ever finish it. (I've tried multiple times but can't even get through the Terran campaign). I hear it's got a new system for the campaign though so who knows if I'll like it.
Anyway, I'll wait until the custom map niche gets developed until I bother getting it. Tower Defence maps are the best thing to come out of Blizzard RTS's personally
Just how fun is Starcraft?
If anyone knows what Natural Selection is, then I'm a big fan of that. It's an RTS/FPS mixed game and it is amazing.
Haha it's a good idea. We should make a thread when it comes out, then we can all talk about the group.
Ok, sure, I hope Sc2 will come out before this thread gets inactive though.
what is DoW2 again?
DOW2 isn't even in the same league as StarCract 2. You don't see games this polished looking every day.
Anyone see those Zerg Worms pop out of the ground in the video?! Thats enough to make me shit myself ...thats how good this is.
[DV]AmeStar reporting in!
I just hope I'm not out of the country when this game comes out. I'd have to send money to someone to buy it for me and then ship it overseas. I bet customs would steal it.
Like the clan idea :D
That, and SC Raaawks!!! !
Are we all pitching in for the vent server? :)
[DV]InTech: Reinforcements incoming. Over.
Vent or Ts, which is cheaper?
Is the DoW2 beta something you have to sign up for specially? I know some betas go into public access sometimes and was wondering if this was so with DOW2.
EDIT - Never mind, I've found it, it's on Steam for anyone wondering. Anyhow it looks like the fans of tyranids should be pleased.
I'll definately be buying this game so i can play it online. Not sure about a DV clan though... everyone lives in different parts of the world it would be very hard to organise a clan war/prac.
I hope they have custom maps so I can get back into Roleplayers RPGs
19
It's going to be more for fun, than serious/hardcore. I think.
I just hope you can select more than 12 units at at time...but that's not gonna happen, I think.
haven't gotten around to checking any screens or vids, somebody clarify?
Haha, the 12 unit restriction prevents you from completely destroying the enemy with my 100 units.
yeah, but I suppose there's a strategic reason behind it, otherwise they wouldn't implement such a thing.
I just know C&C didn't have such restrictions, so my playstyle is more geared towards that game.
how about a clan for broodwar fot he time being? i'm not very good at the game tho.
They are. And they're also including all of the scrapped/joke models in the map editor. Blizzard knows the importance of their custom games for sure.
Don't be so cynical. The overall scale of Starcraft has been increased. It'd be dumb for them not to make that improvement. From the looks of the videos, I think you can select 24-30 units now.
If you know how to create and use groups effectively, the 12 unit restriction is irrelevant to big assaults.
I'm not a big fan of regular Starcraft nowadays. So I think I'm going to wait it out until Sc2. The graphics sorta annoy me, with all these new games nowadays, my expectations are quite high ;).
and @black eagles post: I know but it's somewhat of a hassle and requires some micro-management in order to order your units effectively.
I almost enjoy watching top-level play vids rather than play myself....everyone on battle.net does the same shit these days....
Ya, I tried playing a short while ago. It's not that fun considering peoples' strategies are based on a certain order, it's (in most cases) not just build whatever you want, which I find more fun.
How would we organize this Sc1 group?
/f a namehere
Then wait for each other to come on, lol. Could make a page for it..
~
I guess I would re-install if people actually played. How many people are up for this?
i'm ranma187 in us east and west.
Man, have you never been in an SC clan before? It's one of the main things about SC for me, I made some really great friends on there a few years back, most of us fell out of contact but I still talk to a couple on a regular basis. The community is great on Starcraft, or at least it was.... Now it's mostly a bunch of kids, which is kind of a piss off, but it's fun to put them in their place. I'm totally in favour of getting this clan going, let's get some more people in here, and we'll get this shit up and running.
k guys. i'll be in US east channel : sand
right away
i mostly play money maps btw
GRRRR I WISH I COULD FIND MY STARCRAFT DISC!!!! There isn't any crazy emulation dealio or something that I could use instead of the disc is there?
Me and O'nus just had our asses handed to us twice.
lulz. I like the 4 on 3 comp stomps, those are fun...however I cant find my SC disk as well :(
well the good news is. when you re install it and then download the battle net update. read the update notepad and it tells you how to run the game without the disc.
Yeah, but you need a file off of the disc to run it without the disc, but you could find it online I'm sure. As long as you still have the game installed, then you can find that file on the internet and you should be good, or just get a crack if there are any working ones out there still. I'll hit some of you guys up next time I'm on, which probably won't be until Saturday at least....
Starcraft 2 is gonna be great, that or Diablo 3.
Their predecessors wasted a lot of my time.
I'll be on US West when I get it, hopefully my computer will be able to run it.
I think we should just dedicate a new thread for it when the time comes.
and have it so, we just post our names and area, and once we have everyone's name we can decide on a clan name...(I'm not sure if I'm crazy about calling it Dream Views...maybe The Dreamers)
I loved the original game, and am up for almost any game type (except for the limited mineral maps...lol I know, thats a big deal)
Just because DV might be our tag doesn't mean we can't have a different name. Take Guild Wars for example, you can have a a name that is totally different than the tag you can make.
Anyways, I'm down for [DV]*Name*. Our actually full clan name can be w/e though.
i'm down for DV*name* And i'm with Dylan here on using money maps. i know some like the original strategical better. some of the clan can play the low money stuff and the rest can use $$
One of us should make a thread with a poll, asking people what the Tag as well as the full name should be. So does anyone have ideas?
And who's down for [DV]*Name*?
anyone have any clue how much the Starcraft battle chest is? i could use it for my computer game collection, and i would enjoy playing SC again.
i'm in us east channel: sand if anyone wants to join
Do any of you have Xfire?
It's a program in which you can chat in-game, in pretty much any game. You should check it out at: http://www.xfire.com/
BTW my new nick in us east is Dv.RaNmA187.
i usually hang in channel nk. which is a match hub for www.vilegaming.com
a ladder site that uses mainly money maps.
I like your adding of DV ;)
If anybody wants to play Starcraft with me right now, respond in the next 4 hours.
If I had starcraft, I'd play with you...
black go to channel nk in us east and look for Dv.RaNmA187
Played the demo, it rocked.
Going to try out the online and see what it's like...
lol nice strategy black eagle. hiding hatcheries all over the map :P
That's usually my last resort when people start pwning my ass. I take some pre-hidden drones and scatter them, starting new bases all over the map. Usually I make great use of Nydus canals and make a huge network if the map size permits. This is so I can move troops in and out of an area extremely quick. For defense, I use anti-air and beefed up zerglings or hydras. Of course, that strategy seems to only be anywhere near effective for maps that aren't so quick. In a rare case, I can actually win by re-building enough to come back and destroy... but the best I hope for is to win the game by stringing it along long enough so that the other person gets tired and quits.
For the map we were playing, I had no hope. I'm used to the normal game. But even then... I'm not that great.
Money maps suck.
I can't get starcraft to work online...
So no online for me ;_;
I have to make a static IP address and mess with my router to get it to work...
Last time I did that I broke my internet ;_;
Edit: It says something like that my internet connection is really poor or I don't have UDP packets or something...
That's what I tried to do...
I had to set up a static IP, so I followed a tutorial on how to do that, then I had to go into my router and open ports for Starcraft.
I don't think I set my static IP up right...but after I was done with it, I had to reset my modem thing to get my internet working again.
If Blizzard offers a collectors/premium edition, are any of you going to get it?
Dude turret defense was amazing, I loved that game.
I could help but love a good Bound game. I was only average at it, but it was still fun!
I should start playing it again... but there are so many other things to do.
My favorites were Escape the Tidal Wave and all the impossible scenarios.
Zomg, anybody want to play Escape the Tidal Wave?
I've never played impossible scenarios before, what do you do?
It's fun, but hard as fuck. Each player gets a certain set of units. They are the only units the player gets for each scenario. The players have to work as a team to defeat each scenario, using their different sets of units to fulfill specific roles. Like one player's set is for support, another's is for attack, etc. etc.
I thought I'd just dig up this old thread seeing as how it's the largest SC2 thread, to let you all know that the Starcraft 2 Beta has just released about 45 minutes ago. Any of you that opted in for Beta should check your Battlenet.com accounts to see if you got keys, and then get the fuck back here and let us know how kickass it is. This is exciting news for anyone who has been following SC2, considering this means some of us actually get to play it now, and it means its one big step closer to actually being released sometime soon....
Update: Official e-mails are expected to go out soon to people who have been accepted into the beta opt-in, or received a beta key for winning any sort of contest or special entry from a Blizzcon visit, etc. It seems that the people who have are downloading right now seem to have fluked the system, and were given access to it before they received any official information for it. I know I'm going to be checking back all night hoping I receive an e-mail....
pleasegivemebetapleasegivemebetapleasegivemebeta
I've waited soooooooooooooo looooong........
Haha, a DV clan would be funny.
I was hoping I would get in because I had a mac (I know, high hopes xD). Oh well, I would rather a Diablo 3 beta key over Starcraft. I'm hoping there'll be some kind of art contest for Diablo 3 (and not a goddam lame thing like a theme park design, lol).
I'm really curious to know how many people are selected. I read that when they did beta tests for Diablo 2 there were only 2 people chosen in Canada.
Oh yea, and apparently in Korea there's actually a Starcraft TV channel... I thought it was just a joke when people said that SC is their national sport x_x
I heard 5000 testers is what's supposed to be in the first or second wave for SC2, not sure about Diablo. Earlier though, it was reported that only 400 people were on, so either the rest hadn't noticed they had their keys yet, or they perhaps haven't finished sending all the keys out yet. I keep telling myself that to keep my hopes up of getting one....
I've seen this before, and I've watched some of the online videos of their competitions. It's absolutely hilarious, because the commentators simply freak out over the stuff, like one person will cast Plague using a defiler, and they'll all just break out screaming "PLAGOO, PLAGOO!", or when a reaver gets dropped into a base, "REAVERU, REAVERU!!!". It's wonderful to watch.Quote:

Gahhh, I want a beta key so bad, I'd be content just being able to fight bots, I just want to play it so bad. It inspires me to play classic Starcraft again, but then I just think about how I wish I was playing SC2 the whole time.
However, the good news is, is if they stick by what Dustin Browder had said before, they plan to beta test between four and six months, so we should see a full release of the game within around the six month mark when the beta finishes.
Ya, I can't see me getting a beta key, as I have a pretty common system set-up and not much activity on Battlenet in this millenium, but I can dream :P
OMG THEY HAVE DOTA TOO
This is sadly entertaining... on the second one, I laughed so hard on his SC video when they show the guys playing... and then there's an audience???? This is just classic man. I think I'm gonna look for the japanese version now :P
Edit: What on earth is with those noodles that the audience uses to clap? This is just plain strange.
Edit 2: lol, watching the korean ones are hilarious... I just saw a zerg base get owned by SCVs.
I managed to find a playable version of the beta that doesn't require a beta key through demonoid. It doesn't let you play over battlenet, just against the computer in sandbox mode. Downloading tonight so hopefully be able to play it tomorrow.
If you're talking about the lazylaunch.exe from the teknogods, there's unfortunately no computer in it. It's just sandbox mode where you build stuff, and get a feel for the game.
Still fun though, and if they can make it that far, it can't be too long before they can stick an AI in there for us to fight.
Edit: I just found a map, maybe this is what you're talking about, that apparently has AI loaded into it. I'm going to give it a try here now, see if it works.
Double Edit: It works, but the AI is a dick. It's basically an UMS map, he starts with a shitload of medivacs and battlecruisers, and he just make a giant line of them right outside my base. It's kind of ridiculous, but still fun.
yeah the lazylaunch thing that has 1 AI map included. Funny, the AI didn't do that with me, it was actually really really easy, it built hardly any units and didn't move from its base.
I'm not sure if im going to buy this game now, its basically just a revamped starcraft 1, which im kinda of sick of playing now. The singleplayer might be fun but I'm sure there will be all these hardcore asian pros playing multiplayer which means no fun for noobs like me.
Zerg seemed like a really weak class, followed by terran. Protoss bloody owns! they are way too overpowered. There were a few things I thought could do with upgrading, the most notible the amount of minerals u start with, and the fact that once a vespene gas has run out you can't mine it anymore at all.
I think we have a different map then, because the one I have just starts the computer with a shitload of BC's. They don't build anything, but they start off with a bunch of stuff. I got the lazylauncher before it had a map included, maybe that's why....
It is pretty much a revamped Starcraft, but that's all I really wanted. I love Starcraft, it was my favourite game growing up, and still pretty much is. Also, you won't have to worry about fighting hardcore asian pros because they have a matchmaking system now, the game watches your first 10 fights I think it is, and then puts you in a league where you fight players of similar skill. As you do better, you move up through the leagues, so you should never really be in over your head.
And really, Zerg seemed weak? On the beta forums, everyone thinks they're OP'ed, and I heard virtually everyone uses them right now. The only thing I find OP'ed about the Protoss is the Mothership, which they just nerfed in the latest patch anyway. I thought the Zerg were pretty badass, with the Nydus worm, and banelings. I watched one replay with David Kim where he just built like 200 banelings and marched them into the enemies base, completely obliterating everything along the way, it was pretty kickass. I don't find the minerals to be too bad either, the vespene gas kind of sucks, but it also forces you have to expand, and the matches to go a little faster, so you're trying to eliminate the enemy before you run out of resources.
I dunno, I love it. :D Can't wait to be able to actually play online.
hmm maybe i might get it afterall if thats true what you said Bayside about the matchmaking. I tend to build a big defense, then when i have lots of units push out.. which i know is the wrong thing to do but i suck at offense and micro.
I just dont like zerg because u have to use up your drones to build stuff, and also when i played i couldn't upgrade my mutalisks into guardians or the other one, and hyrdras into lurkers which really sucks. And when i watched the videos they just seemed really weak. Protoss are a much easier race to play, they also have the colossus which is pretty ownage and can walk over terrain, whereas zerg dont have that, and terrans only have reapers which are weak compared to colossus. Protoss also have warp in features, blink and charge which provide a real tactical advantage. I remember watching videos of protoss vs zerg and 1 zealot could own like 4 zerglings no problem.
Haha, I play the same way. I always make a lot of defense, because I'm lousy at microing, the only way I can win is to try and completely win them over with sheer force if I can last long enough to make a giant army. I see Starcraft 2 as an opportunity for myself to get better though, and renew my interest in the game.
You're right though, Protoss are an easier race to use I find. With Zerg, you have to really know what you're doing, because even something as simple as having to sacrifice your workers to make a building can make a huge difference. It takes away from your resources, and time to build more. However, one big advantage, especially in SC2, is that the Zerg can hatch more than one unit at once. The Queen now has an ability that makes the hatchery hatch an addition four larvae, so you can really pump out a lot of units fast. They also have some pretty interesting tactics with some of their units, like the Infestors and Corruptors. I do miss Lurkers, I was never really a fan of Guardians or Devourers though. The Roach is a really interesting sort of replacement for the Lurker though, because of the way it regenerates extremely fast with it's upgrade, and regenerates RIDICULOUSLY fast when it burrows. If you were fighting ZvZ, it takes about 4 zerglings to even do any damage to one Roach at all, because it heals faster than they can attack.
I haven't really explored the Terran units that much yet, but so far I really like what I see of both Protoss and Zerg. They both make for really interesting strategies, and completely different ways of gameplay.
I remember my first races in stracraft that I’ve played is protoss, I like the way they look with nice units and plus very easy to learn to play.. Protoss have never been a prolific people and have traditionally bolstered their numbers with a variety of robotics war machines. They have this protoss shield which we can say that is like they have a second life because of that shield, protoss warriors are very powerful they surpasses the skills of every human being that leave.
3 MORE DAYS! I really don't have the discretionary funds atm, but I suspect I will break down and buy the game. Hopefully they will have a downloadable version, as my optical drive is defunct.
Woot for 50$ Best Buy certificate that's been sitting in my room for 5 months.
I gotta wait 'till the 1st when my brother brings me his old graphics card.
I weep >:' (
hehe, already pre-downloaded the client :) Just awaiting the release date so I can instantly purchase and play it! (okay so it's a bit behind the midnight retail release, but meh, not too bothered by that ) :P
I cannot wait for this game. my friends and I are playing all day and night and day again!!
I already pre-ordered the game from amazon yesterday, can't wait!
ughu you guysss qq
this would easily complete my life
So excited for this, the game will be PnP when I get home from Stockholm, and then I'm off to a 4+ day lan party with my buddies, and they all play SC2 aswell :D
Did they ever make the call to put back LAN functionality? I suppose you could still have a LAN party, just sharing the host's bandwidth to connect to Battlenet :P
relevant link: http://www.starcraft-fans.com/page/B...No+LAN+Support
Admittedly I've never played the original SC. It looks like I'm missing out...
I never lagged on battlenet here in the US either...but the whole point of lan was to be able to play without internet. What if my internet goes out and my friends and I still want to play? looks like we're sol cause blizzard had to be stupid.
You will be able to play offline by loading credentials onto your computer, much like Steam. There won't be LAN support, of course, but you will be able to play SP and against AI, I believe.
haha, try and apply that scenario to some sort of huge official LAN party or tournament :P Epic.Quote:

It's a classic case of a media company opting to hobble their product and alienate paying customers on account of pirate hysteria. Of course, it's always a matter of how badly you want what they have, and in this case they're confident they have our nuts in a vise. And they're right :(
Grrr, didn't notice the digital download can't be activated until 10am PACIFIC. Two more hours.
*grinds teeth and scratches forearms*
It's cool, I can wait.
*beats head against wall*
You know, compared to some of the DRM disasters you see in different games, I'd say that SC2 are one of the better ones. While it does suck, it will probably finally encourage LAN hosts to put some thought into their network setup, instead of just hammering up something cheap that won't hold 100 people connected to the internet at the same time.
It doesn't affect me one way or the other, but it does seem like a big finger to the hardcore fans, and a business strategy I'd rather not see persist (i.e. treating your customers like criminals).
In other news, battle.net was spitting errors left and right and Blizzard phone support was "full," but after several attempts, I'm in :D
I pre-ordered mine, but can't buy it till 29th because of work, that will be late-night shopping. I been playing the beta though and I think i've come up with a really good protoss strategy :)
I've already played more than 2/3 of the campaign.
Spoiler for Not that spoilery:
That's disappointing. I was hoping they would retain exactly those aspects from the original game.
To balance what I said, the way the mission design relates to the storytelling is very good, just as you'd expect, and the eye-candy is brilliant. Of the new units I've used, the Protoss Colossus is very cool (think War of the Worlds tripod death ray) and the Terrans have a Robotech-style transforming fighter-mech which is a lot of fun, though I don't know how useful in multi-player. Another kind of cool thing is you can see a lot of the units up close in the Armory on Raynor's ship, though of course we won't get that with the other races until the next two installments, hopefully priced as expansions despite that word "trilogy" that keeps floating around.
*WARNING*
You can't change your "character name".
I thought it was just some random profile and now my Battle.net name is my real name :?
I'm still debating whether or not I should get this game.
My character is EdFish (not my real name). So far I'm sticking to practice rounds in multiplayer, until I get some strategy down or they kick me out, whichever comes first.
idk tao, Im to where they get on char and so far I havnt been disappointed with any of it. In the original I always felt like the story was more like a means to make the lvls than its own strong subject. Mostly because I didnt like the delivery. This time around I can really feel and get in to the story. Plus, they still have plenty of goofy references and such, their just in the ship when ur clicking around instead of on the battle field ;)
I hadn't encounters Ahnold in the Thor suit when I wrote that :D I stand by that the units are less entertaining overall than in the original. There are some cool Easter eggs aboard ship in the campaign, but of course that's the smallest part of the time you'll spend playing the game (both the ship within the campaign, and the campaign itself compared to A.I. and multiplayer matches).
I got to play the zerg a good bit today and they're more fun than ever--the new ways to use Overlords/Overseers and the Nydus worms are both awesome. Zerg were always my favored race in the original game.
haha oh man, I just realized I hadnt tried the zerg yet Oo dang Ill have to do that tomorrow. Those new nydus canals do look sick though.
btw if anyone wants to add me my screen name is same as here tkdyo
So, I'm in platinum now, 1v1. I primarily play protoss. I have a feeling that I've just been getting really lucky, still a TON of things I can do way better. Anyway, anybody on the Europe realms who want to take some matches some day maybe?
ZvP is usually fairly easy. Mass muta is easily countered with blink stalkers + sentries, and pretty much any ground is countered with upgraded chargelots + stalkers + colossi. The biggest problem for some protoss players I feel, is that they really easily get rushed in the beginning. On most maps, you can block off a zergling rush pretty easy with 2 zealots plus a gateway and a pylon. From there on, it's simply a matter of keeping an eye on the zerg. If the zerg goes ultralisks, then you have to go immortals. Usually won't drag out that long, but if it does, then it's incredibly important you pump out immortals very quickly.
I havnt played against other people yet...right now Im having fun doing comp stomp with my friends. After I get really comfortable with the terran Ill probably go though. Terran seem to be my best in both the original and this one.
I'm sucking it up in the US Bronze League. Apparently to add people you need both their nick and a 3-digit "character code." I'm EdFish, 403.
Well i've played just over 20 matches now and won about half of them. I'm in the silver league whatever that means... anyone know what the leagues are? I just play constant protoss coz thats what i prefer and am most good at. I love playing against terran they are easy pickings, just get a bunch of dark templars up quickly. Zerg need a different strategy obviously, so i've been varying my tactics depending which race they're playing and adapting to the enemies moves. I just hate it when people use really lame tactics and go for all your probes and stuff its just annoying. I've had quite a few games where its been a race to destroy the opponents buildings and neither player has resources/workers to build more units. Its been quite funny at times.. running around putting pylons everywhere while i try to find the opponents last remaining buildings, whilst they are destroying all my pylons :)
You might as well get used to it.
Marvo, Zerg Infestor's are crucial against Terran. The fungal growth spell is great against clumps of infantry. The neural parasite ain't as good since it only lasts 15 seconds and costs 100 energy but against a Protoss ground army, Ultras' are great but don't guarantee a victory, obviously. And of course you have to last that long.
two words
mass infestor.
you can snipe their nexus with 12 infestors if they don't have detection. infested terran is amaaazingly good in large numbers. detection is something you need every time, guys. don't skip it.
no-Name, I'm glad you could make it. Truer words have never been spoken. Mass infestor is the bomb.
He doesn't play, he's just regurgitating some strategy he saw someone else do ; P
I've yet to see somebody pull the mass infestor bullshit on me. I hope Blizzard adds a cooldown to that shit or something. From the videos I've seen, it's absolutely ridiculous. It's like a carrier that only costs a third of the resources. And it's invisible.
A silly zerg rush somebody pulled on me yesterday. Honestly, I should be putting up my gate earlier when playing against zerg, but it worked out in the end. I was just laughing my ass off when I saw those 6 zerglings and 7 workers :D
lol big ouch. a lot of people do forget your workers can counter a zerg rush given its only 6. It was pretty silly of him to bring all his workers though. looks like some people are easier to beat than the comp on very hard >:D

Hey Marvo (or anyone else), any advice on countering an early reaper rush as either PvT or TvT? I play random, and while I often win those match-ups, if they get reapers into my probes I rarely have forces in place to get rid of them until the damage is already done, especially if their micro is decent (I'm playing lower leagues, bronze 1v1 and silver 2v2/3v3). PvT reapers are especially tough.
Always rush for a stalker when playing against terran and just put that stalker up in your mineral line. Unless they're doing proxy barracks, they won't get to you in time, and a stalker will obliterate them. If you're terran yourself, not sure. You could throw up a bunker with a marine, or just put two marines close to the edge where the reapers will jump up. Marauders will take care of them just fine.
urghu don't waste money on a bunker unless you're really low league. just not worth it for the +1 range
workers are exceptionally strong in SC2. you can take out a marine with 5 probes in good position easily. reapers shouldn't be much harder.
stalkers are fantastic against reapers anyways.
something I heard D9 (regurg regurg) talk about a lot at one point was the delayed reaper. because before they have themselves a massive attack force with 20 stalkers, your reaper is pretty much a guaranteed scout. if you've ever felt like you're in the dark as terran, just throw out a delayed reaper~
No-name, a properly microed reaper (gold league and above) can kill 100 SCVs. Unless you do something crazy like trapping the reaper inbetween a bunch of SCVs, which is very very hard, then you'll just lose more SCVs than if you ran away with them. 2 reapers also kill 2 marines. In theory you should be able to get a marauder out before he throws reapers into your base, but that's unlikely to happen. I think a bunch of marines and early pressure is all you can do.
then learn to micro those workers. don't let the reaper out.
just don't waste money on a bunker in an awful spot. it's useless, as the reaper is only going for the scvs.
(100 scvs is a little exaggerated, don't you think? :F)
It can't be done. You'd be better off just letting your workers stay on those minerals.
edit: look at it this way. If the reaper takes out 3 SCVs or just a single mule, you would've been better off making a bunker. Additionally, you can use the bunker for later defense against air attackers.
It's more of an issue PvT. TvT, parking your first couple marines near you mins until you get out marauders should do it. PvT, it's a race whether you can get a stalker over there before the reaper(s) fuck you up.
If you want to be safe, do an 11 gate, 12 assimilator, cybernetics core the moment the gate is up, put a stalker out right away. Skip the first zealot and build two gates right away. Produce workers constantly, unless you're saving for the gate. Start building a pylon when you put up your first gate, and save 2 chronos for your stalkers. If the terran still manages to rush you with reapers, then you are simply terribly slow and you need to start from the bottom and learn all the hotkeys and bind your units to keys.
That's my usual Prot build. I just need to spawn that stalker near my mins. PvZ I'll usually put out a couple zealots to block my ramp, but otherwise I go straight for stalkers. I haven't had a chance to try it out, but I did get pwned one more time PvT before anyone put up a response :P
You should always get zealots out when you're against protoss or zerg, but against terran, zealots will be useless in the early game. Go for stalkers, get two gates right away, pump them out.
Zeeerg rush!!!
Unlike the original game this might not be watching at the head small animation of the main characters. Instead, Blizzard gives you a detailed world to play to give his fictional world of a greater sense of belonging the atmosphere of game.
A cool video from Husky with some protoss strategy. After watching it, I realised that I'm already doing what he's doing, which is basically just, if you scout your enemy, and you see they're teching with not too many production buildings, then you should be able to do a very damaging 4 warpgate rush. The really cool thing, is that economically, it's not very very bad for you, like a 6 pool is for a zerg.
Some other protoss strategy against terran I found out myself, is that if you rush 2 gates really quick and let your opponent see them, then they will think that you are going ground. What you do then, is you get some stargates real quick and pump out those void rays. Basically, a terran will have 15 marauders and relatively no marines, because marauders are just so good against anything on the ground that has protoss written on it. Then just march in with your void rays, charge up on the enemy's refinery (this is very important, because sniping SCVs won't build up the charge), and then kill a lot of stuff. Personally, I managed to take out a fairly large amount of marines with just 3 void rays and good micro, moving the damaged one out of range without losing the charge.
SC2 strategy is interesting :P
Starcraft strategy is fascinating. I'm glad you're deeper into it.
But something that neither you nor Husky if focusing on is that the 4gate is that it doesn't damage you AT ALL. It's in no way detrimental to an aggressive player. It gives you a huge timing attack that is hard to be stopped even if your opponent knows about it. Scan/scout for a 4gate every time you fast tech/expand against 'toss. I'm thinking it's going to be incredibly standard (if it isn't already.)
Nothing bad about the 4gate.
Well, that's pretty much what I said. A 4 gate won't hurt you economically like a 6 pool will, but you will be a little behind on tech. You are very likely to either win the game in that early push though, or just gain a huge advantage that will win you the game later. I imagine it's hardest to pull off against zerg, simply because of how quickly they can tech switch and throw some roaches on the field (if they scout you) and then they can put up a few spinecrawlers, which will be very good.
I've been playing this heaps lately, its very addictive :)
Just progressed to gold league in both 1v1 and 2v2, now at rank 1 in both. I'm still not sure exactly how the ranks work or what the bonus pool is, if someone could explain i would appreciate it.
My standard build as protoss is to get 2 cannons ASAP near minerals to protect from early rush, then go for warpgates and mass produce. Protoss are natural boomers, not very good at rushing so its a good idea to get that early protection to help you boom.
My nickname is Bloodlust if anyone wants to add me, i dont know what the code is how do u find that out?
A forge and two tech cannons is basically 450 minerals wasted very early in the game, in my opinion. You're better off using those minerals on gateways, workers, refineries or a cybernetics core. Protoss can easily rush, you just have to be faster :)
Oh dont get me wrong, i know how to be fast and rush I only use that strategy half the time but it does work quite well.
Okay, I admit, I'm a huge ZERG fan! Always have been! :cheeky: What can I say, I love bugs, I love creatures ruled by Queens, I love aliens and beasts so yes, I love zergs! FOR THE SWARM!
Not that I was ever a big SC player. I mostly played to play with my friends. Strategy? I had no strategy, I dont even know what half of the terran or protoss buildings are. My simple game philosophy of consume and consume matches quite nicely with the nature of the zerg.
But now, I'd like to mutate - I mean upgrade my computer, learn some strategy so my friends don't eat me alive (though usually they're nice and play on my side, lol)
The zerg are my favorite aesthetically and I'm improving my strategies with them, but I'm stronger and more versatile w/ terran. My most fun games and satisfying wins strategically are definitely TvT. Slipping a pack of infestors past detection and summoning a horde of infantry to flatten someone's base is fun, though :cheeky: Infestors probably have the best cost-to-damage ratio of any unit in the game; 4-6 can easily solo-smash an expansion, and once you have 8 or more, you're going to steamroll most people's defenses on their main.
Zerg is definitely a difficult race to play, because it requires you to very aggressive. You don't really have any big ultra units like the terran battlecruiser or protoss carrier. Right now, it is supposedly the most underpowered and difficult race to play. I can write you some very detailed guides on how to open a game as a zerg, if you would like.
Sure, I'm definitely lacking strategies. I'll go for a speedling rush (13 gas, 12 pool, Queen + speedboost soon as pool pops) 95% of the time ZvP, no scout til lings unless the map allows OL scouting. If I see P massing a ground army, I'll go roaches, otherwise straight to hydras + infestors. It works out a lot of the time, either as instant ling rape or a drawn-out macro victory, but I'm kind of a one trick pony.
I've been more focused on Starcraft 2 than my dreams. haha
I am a zerg player.
I recently played several of those stupid Protoss cannon guys. They build a forge first and to make it worse, they stay on one base. Zerg can easily out macro that. But it gets tricky when they push out and secure the natural. Then protosss can amass its ground army. I had trouble defeating the blink stalker and collosus army with my three base (with gold) speedling/inefstor (mind control) play.
And I've seen the Ultra being used in several high level games. I've used it myself. You've just go to mind control those units that can take it out like Thor or Battlecruiser.
Mind control is awful now that they brought it down to 12 seconds
Don't go head-to-head in a massive battle unless you've widdled him down a lot. Use the speed of Zerg to your advantage. Nydus worms are near-overpowered, and incredibly underused.
/z advice from a non-z player :P
finally got my computer able to semi-function with games. going to try and reinstall Portal before begging for SC2
Blink stalkers are tough ZvP. Their big units--VR, carrier, collossi, even mo'ship--all go down easy to Corrupters. I've had the most success backing stalkers into a corner, spamming infested terrans, then sneaking in as many Brood Lords as I can from the high ground. It would probably work even better w/ some fungal growth and/or mass lings.
Can't say I pull off worms too often, or let zerg opponents get away with it. Mobility-wise, warp gates + warp prisms are much sneakier and more effective.
Mind control isn't all that awful. It takes their best units out of the fight and gives your main army time to clean up. Problem is you still have to fight those big units eventually. A full energy fester can MC twice. I've had some trouble keeping them in the back behind my main units but some better micro will solve that.
I was on Kulas Ravine. A good, large map for those nydus worms. I will have to try try that, given I didn't do much harassment.
Infested terran/fungal growth is way more effective, though :F
I'd rather have a good fungal growth than a mind control
It's just preference, but I really don't like Kulas for nydus worms. There's not a lot of empty space that doesn't get scouted/built on for you to sneak one in. Metalopolis has spots that just scream "NYDUS WORM ME HERE"
la la la la preference do what you want
