I actually ran across that mod thread a few days back, it came up as a similar thread to my or Sibyline's mod promotion threads. It was interesting to read, quite historic :)

I like the way the old DV thought. Ice dawg seems like a cool guy.

And they clearly knew about just picking random moderators and admins who would form dictatorships without input from the community.

Seems like some things have been going down hill...

i like threads with a lot of drama in it. those are usually quite entertaining.

That peaked from 2005 to 2010. Drama was rampant in Extended Discussion and Religion/Spirituality. Sometimes the dramatic discussions spilled over into The Lounge. It was beautiful.

The drama in R/S had a lot to do with the extreme fundamentalist(s) who made shit stirring threads and posts on a regular basis. I still think it might have been the same person with a bunch of different accounts using a bunch of different computers. Maybe we really did have a wave of extreme fundamentalists who think alike. If it was one person, he or she deserves a medal. A lot of really educational and entertaining discussions took place here because of those threads and posts. Trolling isn't always a bad thing.

The character Awaken4e1 (who claimed to be a preacher) who posted in that thread stirred up so much madness in the Philosophy forum in 2005 that the Religion/Spirituality forum was created. In the early days of R/S, you had to be a member here and sign an agreement to even see anything in that forum. Things were that dramatic.

I miss that era so much.

nope not always. i've seen some pretty clever trolls that revealed a lot about other people's character on the forum. not particularly on this forum but in others i'm involved in. and you'd be surprise to see that some of those who appeared to be kindhearted or intelligent started to behave worse then the trolls who started the drama.

you don't know a community unless who watch how they berate members of their own community.
