i dont really like the whole idea of this. with affirmative action it is almost promoting an implication that we were not all created equal. that if there are two people who are equally qualified for a job, you must choose the minority for fear that that person may be offended.
the truth of the matter is, that maybe (even if you were equally qualified) you might be declined from a job application simply because your employer doesn't like your personality. this isn't to imply they don't like your race, but maybe they don't like the way you talk. maybe it just sounds unsophisticated which, unfortunately, the hip-hop and rap scene promote. again: im not targeting anyone in particular with this example. as we all know, its defenately not only blacks and hispanics that listen to rap/hip-hop.
i feel that it is up to the employer to choose who he would like for the job, without fear of being accused to racism. its just unfair.

i have a question about this "law." if the person hiring happened to be a minority (say african american) and there where are white man and a black man applying for a job with equal qualifications who would they be required to pick? i know techniquelly the black man is the minority, but couldn't it be considered racist if he chose the black man > the white man?
basically this "law" doesn't make any sense at all and, again, is just further promoting inequality.

The law promotes an inequality to limit an already existing inequality. There is a similar law in France, they call it "Discrimination positive", so there goes the answer to your question. And of course, affirmative action makes sense only if the two applicants have the same qualifications, otherwise we would end up having gangstas presenting the 6 o'clock news.Quote:

No I think they should hand employers a couple of CVs with skills and degrees documented of the different people applying for their Job you offer. A name, Picture or Ethnic Origin should NOT be specified on the CVs.
The employer has to pick one of the Employees offering themselves for the Job based on their skills & Degrees only. Once he's hired them he should be able to see wether he hired a black dude, a white dude or a Latino dude...Just so he can't Racially judge them uppon hiring them :wink:

Have you ever heard of white people helping with the underground railroad? Have you ever heard about the ticket Abraham Lincoln ran for President under (the end of slavery)? Lincoln got elected under that, by the way. Have you ever heard of white people being killed for helping black people before 1900? That happened a lot. You have no appreciation for the sacrifices so many people made in the past. You are just wrong. Do some reading.
You are also trying to treat a race as though it is a person. You want to punish an entire race for what certain individual members did in the past. That is illogical and racist. What the black slaves in America went through a long time ago was horrible. Every slave owner should have been shot. However, the black Amerians of today benefit from it by being free people in the world's wealthiest country. If you take all of the black people in the United States and treat them as a nation for financial statistical purposes, they are in the top ten richest nations on Earth. If reparations are necessary at this distant point in time, then there they are. Let me assure you that no African country is having a problem with too much immigration from the United States. Why might that be?
