Awhile ago our school installed cameras everywhere, except the bathrooms, locker rooms and classrooms (But they are in the Gyms). They are also outside. Everyone thought this was a huge violation of privacy, but eventually put up with it. Now they are have put a ban on "All Electronic Devices" because they might be used to take pictures. Any electronic device is confiscated on sight. Including but not limited to, iPods, Cell Phones, PDA's, Cameras (Digital or Not), and basicly anything more complex then a calculator, with or without a screen. Voice recording is also a "reason".
The thing they've been saying is that it will protect our privacy. No student in the district gave consent for this, not one. When they say "Protect our Privacy" and we say "What about the School's Cameras?" They say, "That's different." They never respond with anything else. They never elaborate, at least not to a student.
The big deal to me is that this is just getting more and more offensive. It seems like our rights are slowly being taken away from us. More and more methods of control are being forced on us. I have rights. But a school can't do what they want just because they want to, and then use the reason, "You have rights, and we are trying to protect them..." They are taking away our rights. School feels less like a learning place, and more like a prison.
And also they are putting up security entrances soon.
