I don't understand why you wouldn't want to defend yourself. That is your right, but you shouldn't want to take away the rights of people who do want to defend themselves. I wouldn't shoot someone over stealing, but when someone breaks into the house, they have crossed a line. Even then I hope I wouldn't shoot some stupid kid, but if it is someone who wants to hurt me, I wouldn't have any problem with killing them first, and they have taken their lives into their hands by breaking into someone's house. The "law" probably won't be there. I wouldn't aim for the knees, either, that's for sure!

The point is that each Jew deserved the right to have a chance at defending himself with a gun, and Jews with guns would have made the surprise neighborhood jackings far more difficult for the Nazis.

As for why there is so much gun violence in America, I have already addressed that. How much better off would the Medieval Europeans have been if battle axes and spiked balls had been banned? Would they have been living in peaceful times? Of course not. The violence of a society is not a result of the available weapons. It is the result of the disfuntional nature of its citizenry's trash element. Weapons are just what the people who are violent use. Do you think clubs, chains, knives, swimming pools, cars, baseball bats, swords, hammers, screw drivers, hands, feet, ropes, wires, windows, and boards should be banned? How successful would the law be in keeping those things away from people? You will never get guns off the streets in the United States, and because the scum is inevitably going to have them, I deserve the legal right to have one too.

False. Harder to pull off implies saved lives and more dead Nazis, not inherently a complete prevention of the holocaust, which I do in fact think would have been impossible for just Jews with guns. Now, what are your answers to the questions I asked?

I had an experience about a year ago where a guy thought he would kill me. He broke into my house and trashed my jeep and then came back with weapons. I called the cops (one of the only times I'v ever called the cops) and when they showed up I had a loaded 357 mag pistol ready to fire in my hands when I answered the door for the cop. All he said was, you shouldn't need that anymore we're here. When he came in I also had a 7.62 mm assault rife and a 12 gauge shotgun loaded ready to fire. He couldn't believe this guy was trying to break into my home.

I didn't kill him cause I didn't want to, (I called the cops) he had every intention to harm me. Bad people hurt people, not good people, not guns, knifes, swords, staphs, bats, or hammers etc people harm people. I could have stabbed the guy in the throat with my middle finger and killed him with my Tai Chi Chuan/Shaolin-Do, that would be like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Should we also outlaw martial arts, boxing, wrestling and every type of self defense cause people use them to harm or kill others? Why just guns?

Because there are more ways of defending oneself than killing or maiming that person! From the sounds of it, you are quite anxious and slightly paranoid about the outside world; sure bad things happen there, but the fact is you're probably gonna get yourself in a lot more trouble with a gun than without, 9 times outta 10! What if your crazy ex was enraged by the fact that he couldnt get in, came back the next night and torched your house down in your sleep? Sure the knowledge that you had had a gun before, and threaned to use it this time scared him off, but it wasnt the actual gun that helped you. The police would have scared him off just as easily, and possibly arrested him aswell!

Yes, we all know that robbers with knives are just as dangerous as robbers with guns.

The fact remains, that if in Europe you ever see a gun that isn't a police gun, you are either one of the Very rare innocent people that get in touch with some fucked up criminals, or you are a criminal yourself. Seriously, the average gas station clerk never sees a gun, ever. In America, I wouldn't even want to work in a gas-station or liquor store, especially in a bad neighborhood.

I don't think more guns would have helped the jews. It wouldn't be hard for the Germans to act like every Jew was a murdering, dangerous demon. Besides, are you saying that everyone has the right to shoot someone that is saying 'We are going to put you in a work-camp'?

If I'm not mistaking, the government actually bought those guns. So of course it would drop statistics, many of the guns weren't able to be sold on the black market or stolen. We over here have a lot of people, and with lots of people, comes lots of different problems and stuff like that. People will commit suicide and kill others no matter what, guns are just a tool whether you are a murderer or a police officer.

I myself would not trust completely in officers anyways, as they have no actual duty to protect you. If you cannot protect yourself, are you going to hire an armed bodyguard? Or is the governments going to assign a police officer to every law-abiding citizen?

Yes, the Spartans were quite 'outgunned'. Also, I personally value life, I just don't think one life is more valuable then another: I rather see no-one shooting anyone. You did it again. I already know you are an intelligent person, so I know you are not being intellectually honest when you say things like that. The intruders in my parents' house, the intruder in Moonbeam's house, the intruders in other people's houses whose presence is theatening the safety and lives of the residents, the Pearl (Mississippi) high school shooter (who was put to a stop when the principal ran to his truck and came back with his 9 millimeter), the scum bag boyfriend who attacked the maid of some people I know and got his head blown off before he could kill her, and whomever else. The robbers are going to have guns. The question is whether the cashier can defend himself with a baseball bat. Do you think he can? There are plenty of instances of cashiers defending themselves with guns. Are you sure you want to take that right away from them?

Hand grenades don't defend against hand grenades the way guns defend against guns. A gun will defend against a hand grenade better than a hand grenade will because it takes a few seconds for the grenade to explode once you decide to explode it. As for your last sentence, I will let you pretend you didn't make a point that stupid. I know you are better at analogies than that.

Neruo--what do you have in mind for me defending myself without a gun? Don't say call the cops! Not an option! I live in a relatively safe area (like, just a few murders a year) and a woman got killed in her house just a couple weeks ago. The neighbors heard it happening, called the cops, they got there and since they didn't hear anything they left. Guess what? She was already dead, they found her the next day. She was stabbed, not shot, so if she had a gun she would probably have been OK. I do agree with you that you should only shoot if your life or others is in danger, or if you are in danger of violence even if it might not kill you. At least I wouldn't want to shoot someone for stealing an object; but a poor person who doesn't have much may think differently about that; it may be a matter of survival.

Why don't you anti-gun guys hate cars? They are lethal weapons, they kill way more way people than guns, they run over innocent people in the street, people don't use them correctly all the time, don't put seat-belts on their kids, they are destroying the planet, etc. I think cars should be banned way before guns.

In my last house, a cat was walking on the pipes under the house, and it sounded like somebody was trying to break in. I called the police and told the dispatcher it sounded like somebody was breaking in. Well, first the phone rang 11 times without anybody answering it, so I hung up and called again. The dispatcher talked to me and sounded like she got the point. Twenty minutes later, no cops had shown up, so I called 911 again. Another dispatcher answered the phone, and I asked why the cops weren't at my house. The dispatcher said they took my report but didn't know I needed the cops to come. The cops came ten minutes after that.

Maybe just better your horribly bad police-system / police-force instead of letting everyone shoot each other? =)

Yes, it will, actually. One less society disturbing criminal in the world. And again, there's a lot of violent PEOPLE here. It's not a guns problem. People are why crimes are committed in the first place, by banning guns you aren't addressing the problem.

The point is, a lot of regular breaking ins and stuff like that end up going bad, and the criminal shoots the residents out of desperation.

You are mistaking initiating the violence and ending it. Ending it to protect your family, life, and property is acceptable. It is a necessary evil. You have to pick the lesser of two evils, you and your family maybe dying or a criminal dying. I value life, too, that's why I protect it. Again, you are projecting your beliefs on other people. I would rather not have to shoot someone, but if they give me cause to do so, I will.

And I'm sure you would be fine with the cops killing the criminal who tries to kill you. You didn't do it yourself, but hey! Criminals have feelings too. Or maybe you'd sue the cop.

You also haven't answer my question. How would you protect yourself in the situation I gave in the earlier post?


And actually, our police force is purdy good. Let's not get into a "who's police force is better" type argument, please.


What would you tell women to do? What if someone bigger, stronger than them are trying to rape them? "Oh, just give in to them, at least you'll hopefully come out alive and un-scarred!"

We've never thought about that! Great idea! :yumdumdoodledum: I'll tell you what... You can come to Jackson and make our police department stop sucking, but first you are going to have to get our mayor out of jail, get our district attorney to stop being corrupt, and clean up the most worthless city council you can imagine, and then get 911 to get off their asses and the cops to grow morals. You seem to know what to do. Then we can ban guns, which will make it where the criminals will suddenly not have them any more, and you and I can jump over rainbows with Dorothy and Big Bird.

The martial arts I know are not for sport or play and they can hurt/maim someone as bad as a gun or knife...thats if they live through it. Guns give a person a better chance of hitting first no matter their physical and mental capability's. I'd rather run and hide than to kill or even fight someone. But also I'm prepared to do what I have to in order to survive.

Many people in here seem to have extreme cases of paranoia. I'm not sure what the hell kind of fascist dictatorship towns you're from, but most places dont usually have people who want to hunt you down and kill you, unless you've done something very wrong in the first place. The argument of killing someone before they kill you is completely stupid when it's never gonna happen anywhere that you're storing a gun in the first place.

Some people are just plain psycho and think that there blessed by god or something, and they don't care if you have a gun or what you know. They're on drugs or something that make them feel superior to the rest of us, Humans have all kinds of problems. These arre the people who should not be allowed to have guns. Gun control should mean weeding those people out.

Such people do exist. Are you not aware of that? Also, it's not all about psychos wanting to kill for sport, although that does happen. It's mainly about burglars and car jackers who will kill to get what they want (It happens all the time.), rapists after women (Read the paper.), and whoever else needs to be handled. Maybe you live in the city of Utopia in the state of La La Land, but I live in the fourth most dangerous city in the United States and the second most dangerous state. The last time I checked an almanac, Mississippi and Louisiana were the only two states that made the double digits per hundred thousand in murders. We deserve the right to prepare self-defense. And people store their guns usually in their houses and cars, where lots of killings do happen. Just about a year ago, two of my sister's friends were sitting at a stop light and some guys smashed the car window with hammers and tried to rob them. I've talked about intrusions into the houses of people I know, except I didn't mention all of them. This stuff is in fact real. Study up on it.
